Summary

Many animals conscripted during the war did not return. Brutus wants you to put their souls to rest.

Walkthrough

Talk to Brutus at the chocobo stables in Upper Jeuno to start this quest. Brutus will give you three key items called Aquafloras to put in some underground pools as a remembrance to the beasts that died.

Next, go to Fei'Yin. There are three pools in the lower area of Fei'Yin at H-8, H-5 and F-5. Examine the pool at F-5 and Dabotz's Ghost appears. Kill him, then inspect the pool again for a cutscene. Then inspect the other two pools in that area.

Then, return to Upper Jeuno and talk to Brutus.

The final part requires you to go to Castle Oztroja and kill Yagudo Conquistadors, Yagudo Priors and Yagudo Zealots for an Oztroja Chest key. Find a chest, trade key and you'll get a Beast collar.

Trade this collar to the walking NPC monkey called Tebhi, who often roams in the area where the yagudo spawn. He'll disappear, so head back to Upper Jeuno and talk to Brutus one more time to receive your Beast Gaiters.

Me as a 55bst/nin and of course my trustie lvl60 soothing healer npc. finally took this guy down! After several tries with different subs, nin was the best out of all.. Manily because of shadows is what saved me and my npc from using to much curing on me when I had to run and charm a bat or even casting shadows he would come after you, + those aoe spells shadows helped.. anyhow I used "Keeneared Steffi" seavral and zelta biscuits seavral... It took a very good long time, never timed it. I let the pets do all the work while me and my npc ran around and got ready for the next charm. So belive me if your going by your self make sure nobody bothers you for awhile!! and the collar wasn't to bad. just a pain in the rear "truly" Good luck to ya...
damn this is long winded

seeing as how no one answered your postabout duoing, if 2 bst's have flagged the quest andduo this npc, you havebothgotta find him, thast 1 each i know it sucks i tried this today and had to come back and look forhim, 10 min respawn tho so not too bad, you can findhim on widescan so might as well track him.

Have any duo bsts done this simultaniously? I am wondering since if Tebhi depops after you trade the collar when does she reappear?

I did the Fei'yin part as a 75Pld/Whm. Was a long fight because I wasn't doing a lot of damage, but I came no where near dear. All in all it took about 10 minutes. I used Stoneskin more than anything. I even forgot my parade gorget and still has 200+ mp left when the fight was over. That's taru mp though, with Whm sub i had 500+ to begin with :)

On the second part I got pretty lucky. Took probaly 20 kills but that isn't bad. The Yag that dropped the key was in the same tunnel as Tebhi, and the chest was in the square room on that map, 1st place I checked. Lucky for once.

Can personally confirm that Oozes also drop the chest key.

Was running around where you exit for the Magicite, had done like 6 or so laps killing every keydropping yag in sight. Of course, nothing dropped. The chest was in the pool near the password hint, so I figured, "Eh, watch the slimes drop it..." Sure enough. Only two in that area, but can add them to the slaughter list if you're having trouble.

NM Easy as RDM
# Jun 11 2007 at 6:01 PM Rating: Decent
Soloed this today as 75RDM/DRK, although DRK sub was useless as I was about to find out.

NM popped in the westernmost pool. Immediately casted Ice Spikes, however every Dispel I cast resisted (I was wearing a melee setup so just basic 276 enfeebling). NM casted Blind, Bind, Freeze several times, and one Blizzard II. All spells hit for 0 with phalanx/SS/barblizzard/Crimson Greaves on. Ice Spikes para was resisted with barblizzard on no problem. Resists blind and para real bad but slow II was easy to land.

Only problem is he appears to be immune to both the Spell and status of Stun. Tried Stunning several times with 230 dark magic skill, and used Flat Blade. No effect. So watch out for that.

You can solo the NM but have to be prepared a bit. I went as 75SAM and was never really worried about dieing the entire fight. I meditate up let timer charge back up then pop NM. Pop it WS, meditate, WS @ 100%, wait for TP build up (was quick) WS again, hit my 2hr (just becuase I wanted to be done fast) did Light skill chain and think I WS one more time. I ended up at about 1/3rd life and was cursed. No worries killed it and moved on... now hunting damn castle... will go as SAM/THF and hope for quick find on key and chest... just thought I would let those know you can solo NM..

Keep asking him, he will give it to you. I had the lost chocobo quest open and it still is open so just keep pestering him. A friend getting BST job open had the same problem, you just got to keep talking to Brutus and he will mention something about the Great War, animal conscripts and get you the key item.

the key part in Oztroja is not soloable.

You'll have much better luck soloing the Castle O part then the Ghost NM. I don't know why you would really want to even try to solo the NM other than to say "I solo'd it", as it is a very long and frustrating battle.

Best to bring some help if you'd like. Even BST's have to ask for help sometime =P

I just solod this beast, 53BST/WHM. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was by all the posts here, but the only problem I had was finding bats at full health to fight it with. Other than that it went fairly smoothly. All the CHR+ gear I could get/afford plus light staff, only mischarmed once. Every BST has its day right?

One thing that might have made it seem easy was my Gaudy Harness... :D

Thank you for sharing that you can solo this at lvl 53. I probably would've tried anyway when I got to level 52, but hearing all of the "I dominated this guy with my level 75 whatever" was getting a bit discouraging.

Fei'yin:
1st time I did this as 75 WHM solo got him down to 50%, then realized I used up too much mp and had to warp out. 2nd time I asked 2 PLD friends lvls 75 and 73 to help me out (they were bored) and they open up a can whoop-azz on the NM Dabotz. He has a lot of HP and I think that was my mistake of not remembering AF NMs have a lot of HP.

Castle O:
73 PLD logged (had to go to work) and 75 RDM came to help me get the chest key. I switched to WHM/BST for widescan and use of charmed pets to fetch us mobs. We killed so many Yagudos, I was thinking that this key is just as bad as the coffer key 2 floors up. Bad thing was were farming in the wrong area because when the chest spawned, key took 2 hours to drop, open the chest to get the collar but I could not located Tebhi at the pond like stated. IMO the write-ups are unclear about which pond because I went to outside ponds where the NMs spawn. The pond you seek is the indoor pond that is near the brass door to the magicite for city missions 4-x. Tebhi is roaming that area and will gladly accept the collar and disappear. Also, the key dropping yagudos are over the place here which made me a bit more frustrated because we should have been killing this area versus hunting down the key droppers in other areas.

soloable as 75 rng. keep blink up, run from big spells, bring a hi pot or two, done.
Solo it, because you can.
# Nov 19 2006 at 10:44 AM Rating: Decent
I wanted to verify again that this is absolutely soloable as 52bst/whm.

Pop the nm, set a bat at it, and head back towards the big staircase. At the stairs you have a 100% safe spot to heal/buff yourself.

As someone said, cast blink between every pet swap and make sure you are ALWAYS outside of hate range before casting or sicing. You want as little hate as possible.

The biggest challenge of the fight is not getting blood or magic aggro from the small rooms off the hallways. DO NOT CAST in the hallways and DO NOT RUN through hallways with yellow health.

Keep throwing bats and jugpets at it and after about 1.5hours the ghost will finally die.

Try to keep the bats alive so they will respawn faster. You can always run back past the magic pots to get more bats OR if you are low on health run up the stairs and throw some too weak bats at it to buy some time to heal/buff. You should be aggro-free up here so you'll be much safer if only briefly.

I should admit that on my 2nd try, when NM was at 10% I aggroed a doll from one of the small rooms in the hallways and a 75bst from my ls who just happened to be running by finished it off for me. But that last 10% shouldnt have been any different from the other 90%. It's long, hard and unforgiving (lots of room for mistakes and very little you can do if you make one),
but if you're looking for a bst challenge, this is a fun one and it's definitely challanging.

Me and my npc just beat this NM, it seemed to be about lvl 62ish or so. I had to check all three ponds, got it on the last one. I used sneak to pull it but it didnt come after me so I killed the dromas first. By that time the NM had despawned but luckily it repopped after checking again.

I went as 75 brd/whm and my npc is lvl 57 fierce attacker. I was able to keep his ice spikes off with finale but couldn't get lullaby to stick to stop his magic attacks. I used both ballads as songs and luckily had some yagudo drinks on me also. My npc really surprised me she used penta thrust 3 times! Usually she mostly does vorpal thrust, the third time the NM got mad and stoned her to death. I had to call her twice in the battle. :P It didnt use any ancient magic on us but it did use thunder II, stonega II, stone III and curse, oh yeah and it stunned me while singing once. ><

I just tried to solo this at 52BST/26WHM. I got it down to around 3% HP after a LONG battle, and then I died -_-. The key to soloing this is have Blink up ASAP whenever its down. What killed me was the DoTs like choke. You can't rest, so losing mana and hp gets really out of control. Open up with a T bat that is two-houred, and use Zeta pet food whenever you can. Theres plenty of pets, but you have to walk around alot to find them. Good luck.

i was solo the NM with 75brd/37nin. <easy prey>
but without utsusemi <hmmm> it was cast evel spells like stonegaII, freez, etc. and the blace spikes was paralysed me. that was the only intressting part @ this fight for me XD

damn monkey
# Feb 07 2006 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
just to let everyone know, i did this with a friend and we both needed the gaiters, when you get to the monkey each person has to trade the collar, he dissappears on both screens, so i guess you have to wait a second to do it again.
didnt see it mentions in the posts, so i thought i would let every1 know.

Dont make the same mistake i did.. make sure after you do the Fei'yin part talk to Brutis again before going to Castle Oztroja or you may just end up spending hours getting a key then a couple more finding a chest to only get yourself around 6600 gil as i did :( oh well tomorow ill go for another run.

Two LS buddies (Riki - SAM70, Tasti - RDM68) were kind enough to come with me for the ghost. I sneakpulled him, so no need to clear the room, and then they killed him for me. Holy Water was helpful - he likes to spam Curse.

Once we got done with that part of the quest, I went to Castle Oz and soloed the rest, getting a key to drop and finding a chest took about 90 minutes. Traded the collar to Tebhi, and that was that. Invis was very helpful in the castle, and I also used juices to keep MP up without having to rest.

[EDIT - This part of the quest is definitely soloable as BST51, you just have to be very careful with links. I used Funguarfamiliar, which was very effective against the keydropping yags.]

Incidentally, Riki and Tasti stuck around in Fei'Yin after I left, and ended up taking down a couple of the Shadow NMs in there. Nice drops. :)

Tried to solo on 75 thief, has a lot of HP and being that it's a ghost you can't drain it with bolts. I figured it would be too easy so I wasn't well equipped and ended up having to flee for my life as the fight went from neck and neck to 20% to it going ga spell crazy and me on the losing end.

The fight isn't tough persay, I think the worst thing about it is the paralyze from it's ice spikes. Bring a couple high potions just in case and it should be easy. Most of it's spells are weak and easily absorbed by blink but if it decides to cast ga spells like there is no tomorrow you might have trouble.
NM duo + notes

We just took the NM out as a duo 65 WHM/SMN and 65 WAR/NIN. We weren't sure of the difficulty so we brought some hi-potions and hi-ethers but we didn't end up needing them. The NM couldn't be silenced or enfeebled by me but it was a fairly easy fight. I think finding that dang chest in Oztroja is more difficult than this. :(

I also think it is worth mentioning that you only have to fight the NM once for your entire party. We weren't sure and were worried that after we fought it the first time, I would end up summoning it again if I clicked the pool, but I also got the cutscene when I clicked it even though I wasn't the one that summoned the NM.

I started the quest as BST but did the rest of the quest as WHM so you don't need to be BST for any part of the quest other than flagging it.

Yay, boots!
