NM fight
# Oct 27 2006 at 12:13 PM Rating: Decent
The fight for these is not nearly as bad as people say. Just be careful. I duoed it with me, 75 THF, and my friend, 75 BLM. Pretty much all he did was cure, sleep links, and enfeeble. Didn't do any nuking until near the end. I think if I could guarantee no links, I might have been able to solo it. Just kinda have to go nuts with bolts. (Which he can't counter)

Overall, not too bad.
Hmmm

I honestly dont see these as anything spectacular for monk, ESPECIALLY as a DD in parties, which is their primary role. You will not get any benefit from the guarding skill or counterattack unless you have hate, or are soloing. And if you have hate FREQUENTLY in parties, either your tank needs some advice on how to hold hate, or you need to buy some crow/raven gear. MOnk DOES do a lot of damage, and pulls hate once in a while, but this is a lvl 60 item, and by the time you can use this, your tanks BETTER be able to keep hate off you the majority of the time. I guess this is an "ok" item to have, maybe as a showpiece, but I can personally think of several other leg items that are better for monk both as solo and in parties, and are a lot easier to get.
Hmmm

Oh come on now unless your tank already has a 75 job and has enm merited it doesnt matter how good they are any DD job will and can pull hate off them in a battle. Buying crow/raven gear on account of someone elses gimpness is out of the question too but either way you need these to get +1 wether they are good or not. If youre solo and killing stuff the counterattack +1 is nice too. Counter/counterattack not the same thing.

Being at level 69 mnk without the Temple Hose, I feel awfully embrassed. So I decided to get them finally. My help consists of 75 pld, 75 rng, 69 mnk (me), 69 drg, 60 drg, 60 whm, and 59 rdm.

I adviced all melee not to confront the NM from the front due to the NM's high counter rate.

Fight started, Pld voke, and within 30 second of the fight, i see the pld wrote in the party chat... "Oh damn, this is going to be easy"

I didn't know why he said that, but nonetheless, i didn't say anything. Pld took hate pretty well until our 75 rng started his "slug" fest.

Slug shot >> Barrage >> slug shot = 3500+ dmg.

With shadow backing the rng up, the rng took only a few hits and the pld regain hate.

When the NM was at 45% health, he unleashed his Hundred Fist. With pld still holding good amount of hate, my firend the whm /t me to use my 2hr too.

At this point, I hesitated a bit, because i dont want to steal hate and get myself killed. But since our pld here is lvl 75 and thinks the NM is pretty easy, maybe it is easy on his part i figure to myself.

I activated hundred fist, and for the first 10 seconds of my hundred fist, the pld had hate, after that, the NM turned to me.

Having counterstance activated already, it started to become a counter fest. However, he was owning me. The pld activated his 2 hr, but he gain no hate. That's when i got scared. However, when i hit about 110 HP, our whm activated his 2 hr and we all regained hp, that's when we killed it off.

Fun and exciting i must say.

I have to thank everyone that helped once again, they know who they are.

Celtic,
Phoenix.

OMFG.
Wow.
I just finished taking Huu Xalmo the Savage, first time I tried him I died three times. (Fugging ************ Then my party disbanded, this time my party went through him, He took about five minutes, we whooped his ***.... One problem though, DO NOT STAND BEHIND YOUR TANK OR HE WILL START TO COUNTER LIKE MAD. I learned this the hard way, told the PLD to Cover me, that did nothing. I almost died, He popped hundred fists without warning, It doesn't even say Huu Xalmo uses it. Be cautioned, your tank NEEDS to keep hate or someone will die. We were lucky, I had a 74 THF/NIN, 74PLD/WAR 73DRG/WAR 63WHM/BLM 60MNK/WAR (me) 64THF/NIN Some sorta whoopass RDM/NIN (70-75 cant remember exact) And someone else, I cant remember their name or job. To all those who helped me, Thank you.

Can anyone tell me if there a difference between counter +1 and counterattack +1? Some armor is listed one way and some the other.

my guess is counter adds to your chances of countering. While counterattack is much like attack but in the sense of a counter, making the counter hurt more.

Counter = trait counter

Couinterattack = ability counterattack

You counter by default because monks have the counter trait, but you need to trigger counterattack for it to work, but at a cost to your def.

You do not need to activate counterstance for counter to work. Counterstance increases the chance of counterattacking. Your character will counter without counterstance just less often.

Just so you all know, I did this easily with a 75RNG, 73PLD, 72DRK, 70BLM, 68RDM, and 64MNK. I wouldn't recommend this to a party of lvl 60ish people unless you have a high tank or an alliance. His Hundred Fists is insane and would be best if PLD used his 2 hour to counter this, and have the hate left on him. Just thought I'd also say you most definitely have to take out all yags in the room or nearby. Other than that just kill him and get your feather!
cool

Pack a yagudo drink before you begin.
Hoo Moo is located on the 3rd floor technically, first torch as you hit the top of the stairs.
It is of utmost importance to clear the room first. It made it easier so there'd be no links to attack the mages. You should also remove the Yags from the top of the stairs as well because the battle will get their attention. Definitely buff before you begin and have food. This applies to both mages and melee. Trade the yag drink to the torch.
Hoo has a gazillion hp. He will counter you often if youre below 60 and he spams 100 fists at somepoint. His 100 fists is very fast. His AOE is a stun like most yags so its no biggie, but keep the mages away from him. Pack a high lvl PLD for the fight. (Ours was 67.) Took roundabouts 10 minutes and we killed him and I got the drop. This is not an easy fight, but if your patient, and let the hate be asserted to the correct target, things will go much smoother here than say RDM af3 as there is little AOE.
Our party had some high lvl help.
I'd like to thank these ppl for their help:
Eddie, Sofakinghuge, Flipp, Technofire, Evajo, Taboo, Supertaru, Strata, Squallpatel and Areal. If I missed someone, I'm sorry.
Hope this helps my fellow mnks out there!
nice!!!!!

Ok I got to do this last night. I was running to Qufim to level my WHM and saw some Japanese shouts for AF3. They let me tag along and I am glad they did. We went in with 10 people and at least half of them were 70+ they were getting aggro once we hit the top floor and the yags were taking forever to kill. The NM Yag to fight is tough as hell. We were unloading on this thing and each time we fought him it took what had to have been close to 10 minutes. He does AoE at least 4 times per battle and unloads hundred fists when he loses about a 1/4 life. But we did it 4 times and I must say that I now love the Japanese. Can't wait to wear these.
Glad

+1 counter may not do a lot of difference but combined with cross-counter and/or those counter earrings i bet you'd counter like a ***** ( and look good in your af) :)

To be fair I don't believe that the Akido were out at the time he said that these would be good for a counter setup. ^ ^

I can't confirm, but as far as my memory goes back, CoP + Movalpolos came out in September '04, so I assume that's when the strongman came as well. I really dunno though, I myself had no clue what mobs were in movalpolos until like... later... yeah. So: basically, JhonenH, you were right =p.
