Yes folks, these trousers really suck, at least for thieves. They could have been really good but for that level 21 issue. If they were level 20, they'd be good, but 21?
At level 20 you can wear the Royal Footman's trousers which have 3 more def plus 1 VIT.
At 21 you can wear the beetle+1 which gives you decent def and 1 evasion.
At level 25 you can wear the Republic Subligar which is fantastic (unless you're male).
So it seems that these trousers are designed to annoy thieves who are level 21,22,23 or 24 as they have to use an eq swap macro to swap in the trousers for sneak attack then swap them out for fighting (or you'll get beaten up a lot because of the low def).
I actually swapped in and out the tunica and the hose for 4 levels because the tunica has sucky def too.
The final point to note though, is that at least you can keep the tunica for BCNM20s or doing garrison or anything with a 20 cap- the trousers are not worth keeping.
EDIT: Just realized that my rant is based on the fact that I solod most of the xp when I was wearing these- in a party you wouldn't get hit very much so you can leave the trousers and tunica on while fighting and forget what I said about eq swap macros. The point still stands about not keeping them though- there isn't a level cap point where you'd want them.
First off, why would you be going solo, especially on THF, at Levels 20-25? To me, that only shows a lack of strategic knowledge for getting things done right.
Second, your points are invalid asthe DEF drop is only 3, which isn't meaningful at all compared to the STR+1 and DEX+1 (STR and DEX give more benefit per point than DEF does).
Lastly, these do not suck. After a lot of research for figuring out the next piece of gear for my SAM, I found these to be the only good thing to wear for the next 19 levels, and then you switch out for Royal Squire's Breeches.
Simply put, this piece is wonderful for any DD, and if you have a competent party, you shouldn't be taking enough damage in any battle for the DEF drop to make any difference at all.
personaly i love these things (i can't say i love the 300k price tag on hades) i got them for my monk and i think they are very nice (but everyone has there own suggestion on whats good for there charcter)
Used to be the best thing a THF could wear in the leg slot untill the AF pants. Has been superceded by the +1 Noct Brais, but still good for lvl 21 to lvl 30. Soon as you hit lvl 30 sell them and get the +1 Noct Brais (don't keep them, they can't be used for lvl 20 level restrictions)

Ok this is how it works, mobs spawn in waves, wave 1 4 mobs, wave 2 6 mobs, wave 3 8 mobs and wave 4 10 mobs. you can have a full alliance for it, and npcs match you, you have 6 heallers out of 18 people then npcs bring 6 healers. you want to make sure that npc stay alive. and there is a grace period on doing this. after you beat it once, you have to wait about 10-20 min real time, to trade agian. you can only trade item to your town ex San can only trdae Red crypt's in west ron. Depending on how many npc's are alive at the end is how much you get. We lost 2 mpc's first round and everyone got 1555 gil and we got 5 items to lot on. 2 dragon chronicle's and 3 garrison, armor items. 2nd and 3rd time we lost 3 npc's and got 1444 gil, and still 5 items to lot on. Once agian 2 dragon chronicle's and 3 other item's.
Possibly... I have been waiting on my Layzee Pothead LS to do this with me on Ifrit for Bastok. I have the Engraving, but I see it as much more profitable if everyone is Bastokan, and has an engraving... we can do it multiple times... everyone can get good drops...
I wonder if you can have outside healing??? Say a lvl 50 WHM standing closebye... hmmm...
Nope, outside healing doesn't work. Only people affected by the level cap can heal participants. I found that out by accident when I tried to heal a taru running from a Brass Quadav in N Gusta.
And Elvaan RSE is better Hose than Garrison Easily... AGI+2 DEX+2
Except that a mithra THF can't wear elvaan RSE.

It's not a Quest. You go to Yughott Grotto and farm the crap outta Orcish Fighters until one drops a Red Cryptex (Rare/EX). It drops for me (32DRG/16THF) after around 20 kills. I also have only ever gotten the drop in the lower floor of Yughott Grotto... dunno if you can get it upstairs. Take the Cryptex to the Outpost in West Ronfaure and trade it to the knight there.
You need a minimum of ten players and a maximum of 12. 6 NPC fighters will assist you, too. The more NPCs that you keep alive, the better the drops. EVERYONE gets between 800-2000 gil and a (1) Dragon Chronicle always drops. It also gives you a little bit of Conquest Points.
Buff the crap out of your alliance and trade the Cryptex to begin Level Cap and battle. The level cap is 20. There are 3.5 waves of Orcs that attack you.
The first wave is easy... probably meant to give you a false sense of security. Kill the Chaussers (Rangers) first then move onto the Fighters.
The second wave has a bit more challenge to it. Kill the Chaussers first again and watch for the Cursemakers to pop. When they do, KILL THEM IMMEDIATELY. They Cure and use Poisonga on your alliance... not fun.
The third wave is similar to second wave only 2 Serjeants pop as well. Just when you think you're about to win, an Orcish Fighterchief (Monk) will pop and most likely use 100 Fists on the closest enmitied character... killing any mage or poorly healed melee. At this point, you focus all your attacks on the Chief while you have two Vokers taking on the two Cursemakers if they are still there. You CAN save all your TP for Chief, but just focusing your attack should do it if your party is strong enough.
You win! Your drops will be dependant on the NPCs left alive. I got 1000 gil, Dragon Chronicle, and Garrison Tunic the first time (I'm a lucky lotter). My LS mate got Garrison Hose. Second time, I got 800 gil and LS mates got Garrison Gloves and Dragon Chronicles. Third time, I got 1400 gil and Garrison Hose. Mates got Gloves and Tunic.
The gear is nice... originally sold for 100k, but is now down to a steady 30k a piece with Tunic a little higher (Asura). I don't see the big deal really, but thats mainly cuz I don't generally stay Level 18-21 very long with my chars
To recieve garrison items you must succesfully complete a garrison mission, ther more npc's that you kep alive, the more items you shall recieve, besides garrison items, garrisons also give a page out of the dragon chronicles
actually the garrison gear is lvl 18-21 as follows:
Garrison Tunica (Lv.18 All Jobs DEF:15 DEX+1 CHR+1) Garrison Boots (Lv.18 All Jobs DEF:4 INT+1 MND+1) Garrison Sallet (Lv.19 All Jobs DEF:5 MND+1 CHR+1) Garrison Gloves (Lv.20 All Jobs DEF:4 VIT+1 INT+1) Garrison Hose (Lv.21 All Jobs DEF:9 STR+1 DEX+1)
Some semi-decent gear for that lvl IMO pieces are only a few thousand gil on AH on Shiva.
