All AF+1 pieces come from sea, at least indirectly. In sea there are areas known as Limbus, something of a mini-Dynamis. Collect a couple Rare/Ex items and a certain amount of the special Ancient currency from Limbus (much less than a Dynamis relic weapon, don't sweat!) and an NPC can upgrade your AF to +1.

Confirmed in a recent SE interview: na.square-enix.com/events/ffxi/tour2005/tx/transcript.html

FFXI Stratics: One of the biggest debates in the summoner community deals with the stat found on the artifact armor "avatar: enmity: -". Who receives this effect?

Sage Sundi: The enmity status is related to the avatar, not to the summoner. It's useful to use "avatar: enmity+" when you want your avatar to keep the hate.

Most people agree know now what the "Avatar elemental resistance +20" means but I got my friend who has this peice to clear it up for me.

You gain +20 resist to the element of your avatar. (IE Summon shiva and your ice resist goes up 20) We know this because when she summoned shiva and went to the equipment screen her ice resist visiably went up by 20.

I can't say why SE phrased some things "XXX: yyy" on our AF and this without the colon, but I can at least say what the elemental resistance really is for.

I really hope this clears things up for people as I didn't trust any of the things people said until she confirmed that her resistance went up by 20 when viewing the equipment screen. (much like the whm ba- spells do)

^_^
hmmm...this doesn't add up...

Im kinda confused, if the ":" is supposed to mean "Cause-effect" then why do people say that the elemantal resistance is for the summoner when there is clearly no ":" for that one..would that mean your avatars get all resit +20, becuse to me, it says nothing about the day effects it, or it depends on if you have a certaint avatar out..cuz there is nothing that directly says that having an avatar out effects your resitance..and if its been proven that that statement DOES infact increase your resistance depending on the avatar summoned, thent the credibility of the -emnity "cuase-effect" goes down the drain.. becuse it has to be one or the other, why would they make it say the same thing two diffrent ways? so if its "Avatar: Emnity -2" translates into " if you have an avatar summoned then the summoner gets -2 emnity" THEN becuse there is no cause or effect statement meaning ":" then the "avatar elemental reistance +20" means the AVATARS get it, NOT US! and if the "avatar elmental resistance +20" means WE get the +20 reistance based on our summoned avatar, then the ":" means the AVATARS get -emnity, NOT US! it just dosent work both ways, i dont have the armor, so i cant test either theory, but my statement makes sense, and belive me, i wish both of them were for teh summoner and not the avatar, but its time to look at the reality of the situation.

The statement "Avatar elemental resistance +20" means that the avatars elemental resistance raises 20 points. The statement "Avatar:Emnity-2" means that when an avatar is out, you (the summoner) get -2 Emnity. If it said "Avatar: Elemental resistance +20" (note the ":") then when one of your Avatars were out you would get +20 elemental resistance.
Enmity Issue
# Sep 09 2005 at 10:44 AM Rating: Default
The -Enmity on this gear is clearly applied directly to the Summoner himself/herself. It is activated when the Summoner has out any Avatar, I doubt however, that this includes Spirit pacts since it says, "Avatar". The ":" notation is used to describe a cause and effect relationship between the variables on either side of the equasion. "Avatar:Enmity-2" directly translates to "CAUSE [Avatar active]->EFFECT [Enmity decreased two points]. If this notation is difficult to grasp, for whatever reason, think of it as an, "If-Then" situation. "If" the Summoner with this particular gear equiped has any Avatar actually summoned, "Then" that Summoner's Enmity is reduced by two. No other factors apply. Please think rationally about this. There is no possible benifit from reducing an Avatars Enmity. Claiming that not turning a Mob via powerful Blood Pact durring a SATA attempt is a benifit to Avatar Enmity reduction is a ludicris notion. Almost as completely insane as if one were to lower the enmity on a "Provoke" equiped job so that they could "Provoke" durring a SATA attempt and not turn the mob. This is because someone wouldn't "Provoke" durring a SATA attempt. Just as a Black Mage wouldn't nuke, and a White Mage wouldn't cast "Benediction", a Summoner would not, or at least (and this goes for the other examples as well) should not cast a powerful, possibly hate changing spell at the very moment when hate control is most crutial.
Bleh.

Expect to shout in Jeuno for a while and shell out some gil if your LS can't help you get the coffer key. =\ You'd probably be better off farming for Austere than you would paying people to get this for you unless you want it as part of your collection.

I think you guys are right... I mean, if the Avatars got -enmity instead of the Summoner themselves, wouldn't it say "Avatar Enmity -X" instead of "Avatar: Enmity-X" ?
Note the " : " used, it definitely loweres the enmity for the Summoner. Rate up Mishaela
. ^^

This, along with the horn and gloves, contain the text read as...
Avatar: Enmity -(#)

This does NOT lower the avatar's enmity. It lower the summoner's enmity if he/she has an avatar out.

so you gonna fight bombs or gobs,

Call ifrit with AF body and gloves. Ifrit lets you survive bomb hits a bit better with resistance enhancement.

Gloves convert fire damage ifrit takes to MP for you. A helpful if limited situational effect.
Avatar Enmity -2 ><
# Dec 19 2004 at 3:09 AM Rating: Decent
Thats such BS that it gives Avatar enmity -2 instead of +2 out of our whole AF only 2 pieces give us enmity -2. With all the main healing I do I need it more then Carbuncle >< especially when I'm farming. Really these things should give less chance of Spell Interuption like all the other mage AF.

What's more BS? Having Avatar Enmity-2... or having a SMN being Main Healer? I guess SMN Main Healer is more BS...

Just in case people aren't sure,

this adds +20 to YOUR elemental resistance depending on what avatar you have out.

ex. Ifrit gives you Fire+20 elemental resistance.

I'd rather get this for free then scrape up 600k for an austere robe (Gilgamesh) ^^.
Worth it?
# Sep 20 2004 at 11:07 AM Rating: Good
In all reality, is this any better than the Austere Robe?

I'd rather have -1 Perpetuation and -3 BP timer than avatar resistance.

Unless it's refering to the rate at which the avatar itself get's resisted on an offensive bloodpact. But I'm pretty sure that isn't the case.

Well the -enmity is nice especially when more often than not the SMN is main healing (* * )

I would suggest to swap both pieces in.

in your Summon macroes have like
/ma Fenrir <me>
/equip main "Pluto's Staff"
/equip Hands "Carbuncle Mitts"
/equip Body "Austere Robe"
/equip Head "Austere Hat"

and your release macro be something like
/pet Release <me>
/equip main "Pluto's Staff"
/equip Hands "Evoker's Bracers"
/equip Head "Gold Hairpin"
/equip Body "Evoker's Doublet"

Alternating between the 2 is awsome because you get the benefits from all sides xD

It's "Avatar: Enmity -2", not plain "Enmity -2", If you've ever tried soloing anything as a summoner you'll understand why this is an extremely bad thing. It reduces the hate your avatar gets, not you and really any hit your avatar takes is a nice bonus in a normal exp party, as you don't have to heal it. And if it's not keeping aggro off you solo then you've got serious problems.

All in all.. this thing seems worse than useless =/

Get yourself a austere robe, or vermillion cloak instead if you've got the money

The stats on this are incorrect; the correct ones are:

Defense 35, MP +15, MND +3, Enmity -2, Avatar Elemental Resistance +20

Hope this helps people who might be confused (since summoning magic skill +20 would make this far and away the best body armor in the game for SMN...).
