The story of the Exodar starts with the Naaru, who arrived in Outland aboard their dimensional fortress known as the Tempest Keep. The Naaru dispered throught the ravaged land, leaving the fortress unoccupied. Keal'thas Sunstrider, then leader of the Blood Elves, assaulted the Keep and claimed it as his own. Among the many treasure they found within was the sole naaru occupant, M'uru who was sent back to Silvermoon City for studies.
Meanwhile, the Draenei who had survived the Burning Legion instiaged Orcish slaughter met with with the Broken. Velen the draenei prophet and Nobundo, the Broken farseer agreed that they needed to escape this demon infused and war thorn world and hatched a plan - they would wrest control of one of the satellite structure of Tempest Keep away from the Blood Elf - the Exodar. The battle raged between the Blood Elves and Dreanei, and while the Dreanei managed to board the Exodar and make it leave Outland, many Blood Elves soldiers came along and fight continued as the vessel soared across the Twisting Nether. The Blood Elves realised what was happening and damaged the ship, crippling and causing it to spin out of control... until it crash landed on Azeroth.
The surviving Draenei took the islands as their new homeland and made fast friend with the Alliance. They established their capital city in the remain of the Exodar.

The Exodar is one of the rare area in the game that doesn't have a flight master. You can't fly in or out of it and must use different mean of transportation. There's also no boat here,the boat to Aubderdine while close to the Exodar, is outside on Azuremyst Isle.
