The Stonetalon Mountains are a mountainous zone west of the Barrens. The area has been claimed by and is considered to be the homeland of the harpies, but their numbers have dwindled over the years as they spread east and south to find new hunting grounds. The largest mountain in the zone, Stonetalon Peak, is a sacred, holy place for both Night Elves and Tauren and is guarded fiercely from incursion.
The Night Elves have created and maintain a barrow and a glade at the summit of the mountain and use this area to commune with the spirits of nature. In direct contrast to this peaceful area, the Venture Trading Company has spent much time decimating the forest and water supply in Windshear Crag. As a result, the area is filled with stumps of trees, spoiled pools of water, oil slicks and devastation, which infuriates the Orc and Tauren governments to no end. To counter this, the Tauren have set up an outpost at Sun Rock Retreat and the Darkspear trolls have lent a hand by starting a smaller settlement at Malaka'jin.

Starting from the Alliance outpost of Astranaar in Ashenvale, head to the southern end of Ashenvale and enter the Talondeep Path. Take this path and enter Windshear Crag. Follow it north to find the Alliance outpost at Stonetalon Peak.
Horde
From the Crossroads in the Barrens, follow the road west to Honor's Stand and continue west turning north into the mountains. About halfway to the peak, the road to the Horde outpost of Sun Rock Retreat branches off to the west.
Both Horde and Alliance players have a travel hub in Stonetalon Mountains. Horde players can go to Sun Rock Retreat and Alliance need to head further in to Stonetalon Peak.
