WOW Zone:Orgrimmar

Named in honor of the legendary Orgrim Doomhammer, Orgrimmar was founded as the capital city of the Orcs' newly adopted homeland.

Built within a huge, winding canyon in the harsh land of Durotar, Orgrimmar stands as one of the mightiest Warrior cities in the world and a testament to the perseverance of the Horde. Behind Orgrimmar's immense walls, elderly Shaman share their knowledge with the Horde's newest generation of leaders, while Warriors spar in the gladiatorial arena, honing their skills in preparation for the trials that await them in this dangerous land. Orgrimmar is open to all members of the Horde and visitors may access the city by zeppelin or wyvern, or through the fortress's massive main gates.

Orgrimmar is located in the far north of Durotar, at the foothills of the mountain range that separates Durotar from Azshara. Several valleys have been dug out from the mountain and provide a way of naturally splitting the city into various zones, to include the Valley of Spirits, Valley of Strength, Valley of Wisdom and Valley of Honor. The center of the city is commonly thought of as being the Valley of Strength, where the Orgrimmar bank, auction house, inn, and wind rider master are located.

Originally founded by the Warchief Thrall, it is a massive edifice, guarded by heavy walls, massive gates and large towers, as well as guardsmen who have learned over the years to strike first and ask questions afterwards. The mountain ranges of Durotar form a natural barrier to the rear of the fortress, providing protection from sneak attacks by the alliance, while parts of the city are carved into the mountain itself, providing further protection to its inhabitants. Unfortunately, there is also a rear entry to the city via the Talon Gate, making access easier for both enemy and ally alike.

While the orcish clans are the bulk of the city's inhabitants, there is also a strong troll presence here, located in the Valley of Spirits. The rustic architecture of the orcs has been used to create a maze of wooden towers and hut style buildings designed to be both aesthetically pleasing to its inhabitants and confusing to the enemies who may try to breach its walls.

Although the Horde of today has attempted to distance itself from its early demonic influence and aggression it was once known for, some remnants of those dark days still remain. It is hinted in some circles that the Burning Blade has been seen infiltrating Orgrimmar again via the Cleft of Shadows, a dark cavern where warlocks and rogues train, scheme and plot their dark secrets.
