The bandolier will provide you with a quick and easy way to wield your weapons in different predefined combinations. When a weapon set is activated, the bandolier switches the currently equipped weapons with as many of the weapon set items it can find in your inventory. To add a bandolier, first click on the slot that you want to fill. Then click the add button. You can name each set. The weapon set that will be saved as the weapons you currently have in your inventory (primary, secondary, range, and ammo slots). You can make hotbuttons out of the weapon sets for easy, quick swapping. * Potion Belt * --------------------------------------- To open the potion belt window use 'shift P'. The Potion Belt allows for quick use of inventory items, such as potions or magical devices. To add a potion belt enabled item to the potion belt, simply put the item on your cursor and click in one of the belt slots. Then simply right click on the item to use it. Please note that not all clickable items are usable from the potion belt. * The Barter Zone * --------------------------------------- The entrance to the Barter Zone is in the western section of the Plane of Knowledge. The default in-game map has the location marked on it (this may not be true if have a custom map). To setup your character as buyer, use the /buyer command to bring up the Buyer Barter Window. When you'd like to sell an item quickly without heading to the bazaar, use the /barter command to bring up the Barter Window. Please refer to the context tips or the manual for more information. * The Guild Lobby and the Guild Hall* --------------------------------------- The entrance to the Guild lobby is also in the western section of the Plane of Knowledge. The Guild Hall entrance is at the back of the Guild lobby accessible by active guild members. Guild Lobby: - Looking for Guild and Looking for Guild Member tool: You can use the looking for guild tool or the looking for a guild member tool by clicking on the note boards. In the Guild Lobby use your map to find the note boards. - Corpse Summoning: Speak to a Disciple of Luclin. This Disciple can sell you a level appropriate soulstone. Take the soulstone to a nearby Priest or Priestess and they'll summon all of your existing corpses in Norrath directly to your feet (except those corpses that are in Shadowrest). Be sure you loot your corpses quickly because they won't be there long! Guild Hall: - Guild Portal: The guild portal is activated by speaking to the gnome in the Guild Hall. You will need to purchase a focus stone from him and then hand it back in order to focus the portal on a specific location. Once the portal is focused, step on the crystal platform to bring up a yes/no dialog box. Clicking yes should teleport you away. - Mana/Health regen pool: Walking into the back right room in the Guild Hall will cause you to regenerate health, mana, and endurance at twice your normal rate. You should see a text message when you enter the area of the pool as well as a particle effect on your character. - Buff Timers: Buff timers are paused while in the Guild Hall. - Guild Tradeskill Objects: Various tradeskill tools are located in the Guild Hall for easy access by guild members. * Missions * --------------------------------------- Mission givers for Dark Reign and Norrath's Keepers can now be found in Lavastorm. These mission givers offer quests for groups of 3 to 6 players that take you into the Dragons of Norrath. Only a few missions are available at first, but as you gain faction and earn their trust, more missions will open up. Missions make use of a new shared task system that shares space with the Task window (Alt-Q). You can manage the players in your shared task from the new Shared Task tab in the Task window. Successful completion of a mission will reward you with crystals that can be redeemed at mission vendors in the two camps. Each side has their own crystals that they award and their mission vendors will not accept crystals from the opposing side. You can create stacks of crystals for trading to other players by clicking on the crystals display in the inventory window. The reclaim tab under the crystals display will add any crystals you have in your inventory. You can only spend crystals that are listed in the display, so be sure to reclaim before visiting a vendor. ** Live Patch Information ** --------------------------------------- The EQ Mail System! ---------------------------------------- EQ players now have the ability to send persistent messages to players who are not logged in! To use this new feature, take a look at the new icon that has been added to the window selector. This icon will change color when you have unread messages. It also blinks for a short period of time when new mail arrives. To open the mail window, click on the icon or use CTRL-M. Here are a few other helpful hints. Sending Messages - To send a message, press the "Compose" button. Enter the character name of the recipient in the "To" field, a subject and the message itself. Press the "Send" button and mail icon of the recipient will start blinking! Please be aware that you can currently only email one recipient at a time. Receiving Messages- If you are online, new mail is delivered to you immediately without delay. When you open the mail window, the number of unread messages is put between square brackets close to the "Inbox" list title. In the mail window, your messages usually appear sorted by date. You can click on the column header to change the sort type and order. You can also resize the width of a column with the mouse, just click and drag a column header separator. Viewing Messages - To view the body of a message, select it in the list. The message text window displays the message fields in a different color, followed by the text of the message. Managing Messages- When a message is selected you can reply to the sender or forward the message to another player by pressing the corresponding button. An appropriate default subject will be inserted for you and a copy of the original message is added to the mail composition window. Deleting Messages - You can also delete messages, in which case they will be placed in your "Deleted Items" folder. To select multiple messages for deletion you can use SHIFT-click and CTRL-click. The "Deleted Items" list is where your deleted messages go. The total number of messages in that list appears in the title. Two additional actions are available to you when managing your deleted messages: you can restore deleted messages using the "Undelete" button, and you can permanently delete all the messages by click on the "Empty Trash" button. NOTE: You can send a message to yourself. You can also send a message from the command line using the "[mailto" command. Syntax: [mailto If the subject contains whitespace, you must enclose it in double quotation marks. Example: [mailto LadyCandy "You are so sweet!" Dear LadyCandy, etc. etc. - The "M" key now opens the map. - Fixed the following Omens augmentation combines: Aug Inlay Titanite of Quickness Aug Inlay Brilliant Titanite of Quickness Aug Inlay Radiant Titanite of Quickness Aug Inlay Titanite of Pure Quickness Aug Inlay Brilliant Titanite of Pure Quickness Aug Inlay Radiant Titanite of Pure Quickness Aug Inlay Tourmaline of Quickness Aug Inlay Brilliant Tourmaline of Quickness Aug Inlay Radiant Tourmaline of Quickness Aug Inlay Tourmaline of Pure Quickness Aug Inlay Brilliant Tourmaline of Pure Quickness Aug Inlay Radiant Tourmaline of Pure Quickness - Modified the Hammer of the Dragonborn so that it has an instant casting time, but a 10 second recast. - Dagger of Evil Summons now has a 120 second recast time. - Increased the range on Blood Pact. - Pristine Purifying Sapphire is now no-drop. - Assistant Researcher's Symbol now has the focus Quickening of the Anuek. good job

I agree with felkanar.

Soe is doing a great job, and if you're going to come to a game and complain and whine about every little thing, then take your pennies and move on.

Ranting about rants

Seems to me that the majority of people who post on Alla's boards do little more than complain about what SOE has or has not done.

Virtually this whole page of messages has been rants about the new bazaar. Do any of you remember the days of the EC tunnel? When the bazaar first went live, everyone complained, saying "Now I have to have two accounts to sell and play at the same time." Well forgive me for saying so, but how much real "playtime" did anyone get while standing in EC /ooc'ing their wares? Fact is the bazzar didn't change anything, it improved on the current situation by giving the players the ability to have funtional UI windows to sell, search and purchase items from other players.

A few people have made mention of the aspect of "realism" or "believability" of the old bazaar. For those persons I have this one question - ever been to a flea market or swap meet? If so, how many times did you see the merchants(if you will) standing almost on top of each other? Did you ever walk in and get a message of how many "traders" were active and the total number of items being sold? Neither the new or old bazaar are anything like what a real "bazaar" is. Point of fact, this is a fantasy game, real life expectations should enter lightly into desires for the game.

Change is indeed difficult to adjust to. In time we all adjusted to the bazaar from the EC tunnel, just as we will to the new design from the old. It is sad that when SOE trys to correct a problem that virtually all players have complained about, some will say "they took the easy way out." It is easy for any one of us to make statements like this, however SOE has, especially in the past year, attempted to make the changes their player base says they desire. So they make expansions without fixing previous content, 450,000 subscriptions says to any business "Hey you are doing a great job, keep up the good work." Nothing is perfect. No matter how many people say "come to WoW, no bugs here and all the quests work." They are, pardon the term, full of it.

What about the "all levels"
# Feb 22 2005 at 3:55 PM Rating: Decent
I haven't been playing EQ long, only since Christmas 04 with a few months break on top of that, so I only have LOW level characters. My highest is 19. I agree with Groller and am disappointed that most of the new expansions are for very high level players. I can understand Sony providing more zones/expansions for the higher level players to go to once they've done most other things, but can't they add a couple low level zones w/ each expansion so that those of us that purchase the new expansions (I had to purchase Dragons of Norrath if I wanted to use the new guild hall features) and are still low levels have more places to go? I also agree w/ Odzmye and think SOE should have a full summer devoted to fixing what they've already got instead of thinking about expanding. My 2cp.
Completely Wrong

This expansion doesn't require super high level or uber guilds. It doesn't even necessarily require groups. My 57Sk and a 57Druid were doing just fine exploring it. There are plenty of blues in Lavaspinner's and Broodlands, both of which are quite large, and there's still more zones to see.
Another Crappy Expansion
# Feb 17 2005 at 9:13 PM Rating: Default
Why do we have to purchase new expansions just to get the fixes and amentities the game should already have. Is it for the new zones? No unless you belong to an uber guild or have a level 65 or above character. DON, OOW, POP these are all super high level zones almost impossible to solo in requiring a hefty group to even explore. Then on top of that they keep taking the old time favorite zones made for moderate levels (Splitpaw, Mistmore, Cazic Thule) and keep making them super Uber zones.

The Barter zone, which I affectionately refer to as Bartertown, is a great concept, but it's usefulness will be determined by people actually using /buyer mode, and, more importantly, by people actually going to DoN to see what people WTB. Without active use, the zone is wasted.

BTW, anyone can go to Bartertown and pull up /barter to see what people want, but you need the expansion to go into /buyer mode.

So far, I like the expansion. The 2 factions are an interesting idea, and the Wayfarer's make it so you can work your way into their good graces, even if you're starting KoS. On the down side, it also means my SK can't do missions for either camp with my brother's druid until one of us successfully switches sides.

The stuff that you can buy with the crystals looks good after a point, but I'm not sure how readily the crystals will flow, so the value of the crystals and the gear you can buy will remain to be seen. Making the crystals droppable was a great idea.

I love the bandolier. It's simple to use and a lot easier. The potion belt is alright, but only my SK has any potions to speak of, so that's of limited use. I haven't been in a guild hall yet, but the guild lobby is a nice tool for finding a guild and summoning corpses. The new zones look great, and there's lot of blues to people in their 50's, so you don't need to be a end-gamer to have fun there, but there seems to be a lot of high content to be discovered. All in all, looks good so far.

Change is bad... I fear change, especially US Nickels because they are the wrong size and smooth on the edges. Change in the bazaar, while poorly thought out, was inevitable. I agree that server consolidation is forthcoming and that the new bazaar has taken care of that, but the whole concept of the bazaar is now gone. From an RP point of view, it just doesn't jive. It doesn't look anything like a place you would buy stuff from anywhere else in the game. Continuity is game design seems to have not been an option. I think the designers got caught up in the 'fluffy' aspect and forgot all about player function; yes the lag will be less of a problem and yes the graphics look much nicer (tiled floors), but if the average user can't easily find what they are looking for, what's the point. I would love to see a summer free of expansions, but full of fixes to existing problems. If Sony wants users to come back to this game then they should concentrate on making it work correctly rather than giving us more eye-candy. My 2cp... Smiley: banghead
but what about...
# Feb 17 2005 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
This whole entire page on the DoN expansion is nothing but rants about the bazaar. I'm sure everyone who complained has extensive expertise in the field of designing zones for MMORPGS. But what about the bandolier and potion belt? What about the guild hall/lobby, with the increased HP/mana regen rates? What about the barter zone? Was there not a single positive thing to say about the expansion?

Actually, I like the new bazaar. With the noded-hub design, all the traders are essentially the same distances from the bankers, so there isn't a "good" spot to stand. The Find Trader path leads correctly through the teleporters, but I can see how it might be a little more difficult if you were going to be a ton of things at once. To fix that, a teleporter connecting the two hubs would work perfectly. It would shave off the long loop to go from one to the other. Sorting the traders by distance, similar to Ranger tracking, might help ameliorate some of the gripes about the new Bazaar. An innate rate of movement increase in the bazaar and Bartertown would be another good, practical idea to help the situation.

Like I said in my post below, I have a lowsy computer. The lag was bad if I had stuff turned up, but down, it's fine.

I would like to see the arena come back, for me the bazaar and its arena was a large part of my EQ time. It just won't be the same without it. I want the old bazaar back, but more than that I want the arena back.

If any changes were going to be made, it should have kept the original design, but maybe make seperate sections for the traders, much like what they have now, but less confusing (even with a map it's somewhat difficult to navigate). Lag is gone, but if anyone's computer runs EQ like mine, it doesn't only lag in bazaar.

Overall, I hate the new bazaar, and the general consensus is that many others do too.

Why a New Bazaar?
# Feb 16 2005 at 5:58 PM Rating: Default
First of all, lets set up some basic info that you know, but may not have thought about.

1. The old bazaar was terribly lag ridden due to very poor system design, and little if anything was done about it because it quickly became so essential to normal day-to-day operation. The idea was great, but the execution was much less.

2. The EASY way to fix the lag was to do what the new bazaar does, i.e. break up the areas into small subsections that "fix" the problem. A lazy fix.

3. Due to EQ2 and WOW, the bazaar has been hugely depopulated lately, as does every zone you can name. We don't see the impact as much, but it is very apparent in the bazaar. Although I thought there might be some returns to EQ1, they have been few and far between. Due to this, it would seem to me that the servers have been tremendously under populated lately, and profitability is surely suffering very much.

Now, considering all of the above, it seems obvious that major server consolidations are soon to be implemented. When that happens, the lag problems in bazaar will have been "fixed." Sony can then continue raping us for the forseeable future. Although we should see some improvements due to repopulation of the consolidated servers, I think the handwriting is on the wall. EQ as we knew it is gone for good. RIP (Rest in Peace) EQ. It was a great ride as long as it lasted!

I thaught the bazaar is a good idea to reduce choke points where the lag gets so bad those using an older pc cant move.I think they over thaught it though.A simple sign on the wall saying where that hallway leads would have been great.Even a color coded line on the floor for christ sakes. It is what it I guess.Maybe after all the complaints they will throw in a patch for it.

stinks
# Feb 16 2005 at 3:09 PM Rating: Decent

On Fennin this morning, I couldn't even find the damn thing. The regular bazaar was totally empty, no bankers, no horses, no stablehands, no merchants, no NPC traders. Instead of zoning out into Shadowhaven, I zoned into PoK. Many of the old NPCS in bazaar were in the arena.

What the hell? The barter area doesn't REPLACE the bazaar does it? Just an add on?

I had the same thing happen to me. I didn't download the DoN files because I haven't bought the expansion yet. Download the DoN files under the advanced option in the patcher. This will fix your bazaar problems and allow you to see the new bazaar.

Bazaar is a tradegy. This is a roleplaying game. The new bazaar looks nothing like a bazaar and no attempt was made to do so. The merchants look like statues lining the walls of ridicously large rooms. The traders look like a wax museum display on that platform. The division of the bazaar into two halves makes running for items tough. You select a trader and find he is in the red area then the next trader in the blue then maybe the next back in the red. There is still no brew barrel and the tradeskill devices are too far from the trders for doing tradeskillups without long periods of running through long empty hallways. The size causes previously simple runs to be long. Even with lag the old bazaar was simpler to use. The pattern of the rooms are maze-like and require you to use the map to get around. All the rooms and halls are alike so there is no point of reference to know where you. All in all I would have to say the new bazaar is worse than any nightmare I might have imagined on my own if they had even mentioned they were going to change it. BTW you will notice that nowhere does anyone even mention that the old bazaar would be changed, no even on Alla. Only mentions of new bartering system.

Why couldnt the old bazaar style with buildings, floors, stairs, tables, chairs, merchant counters, etc be used and allow traders to be BOTH buyers and sellers. Now you need 2 accounts if you want to sell and buy a piece you want. No reason one char couldnt do both with the seperate windows provided.

PLEASE bring back the old, more realistic and believable, bazaar!!

Awesome Idea.. Make it possible to buy and sell AT THE SAME TIME!!! And Yes.. holy cow the new Baz blows... They made it 10x harder to find who you are looking for. If the population in the old Baz was not bad enough it will now be split as half will be in the barter zone and half will be in the trader zone. The right mouse click still points you in the right direction but with the portals and the round design it is not very helpful. The old Baz was way friggin better. What is so bad about a big box.. at least North, South, East, West meant something.. now you cannot navigate without the map up because there are no destinguishing features anywhere to give you visual cues.
1. Make the barter and trader windows available at the same time.
2. Either bring back the old Baz or put some signs up in the new one.
3. Listen to your customers... oh, I gues this should have been #1

I concur with everything he and the others have to say, however immature they may be. I logged in on my rogue to the messy disaster that has become the bazaar. Plights of people being lost littered my chat box, and forced others to start ignoring. I want the old bazaar to come back, I liked the bazaar, and spend a greater majority of my time there if I'm not out doing something productive. If someone could direct me in the direction where I may get results, just let me know where I need to go and what I have to do. Thanks.

Also, the computer I have is lowsy. For those that are familiar with computer terms, this is my following system:

P4, 1.4 Ghz CPU strapped into a P3 Mobo
128MB PC800 133Mhz RAM (64x2)
TNT2 32MB AGP 1X Video Card
Seagate 7,200 RPM 40GB Hard drive
Windows XP Pro
(much needed upgrade PC is being built ..)

With this system (which is provided by Gateway, except hard drive and OS) I am able to run bazaar smoothly with all models off and clip plane all the way down to 0%. Granted, there is a 1-2 second delay in mouse movement, but in no way does it skip around terribly. Even with this problem, I much prefer the older, more realistic, bazaar.

lol, well, that's one way to get their subscription numbers up. Just like when they introduced the bazaar in the first place, you needed a separate account if you wanted to actually play a character and sell at the same time. Way ta go SOE.

Thing that pisses me off is now I will have to BUY DoN on my bot account if I am to sell on it! Also, I was hoping they would add to the game the ability to buy/sell/PLAY on one account... That is one of the things I loved about WoW for the short time I played.

First time for me to buy the Module with out waiting and buying it in the box, since last one failed to include a book, I decided it not worth the wait.

OK, toured the new zones off of POK, ok,
Cool,
Still confused about the barter system area.
Bazzar is a total mess, I logged on my Bazzar char and was in the stables? I messed up and zoned out into SH and was over weight Thought it was a bug allmost sent a bug report in and reallized I was just over weight. Droped half my Invetory on the ground took a Strenght poition and moved back into the bazzar.
Some one told me that you have to zone to the ReD or Blue areas. So did.

Question? If I am selling in the RED zone will my sells appear to peeps in the Blue zone?
If yes Why no easy Port between the RED and Blue zones.
Will the R-click on the Trader name just point to a wall if the tradder is in the other zone?

ARGH!
