According to folklore, these avians will reward those who make them an offering. If you wish to learn your fortune for this year, try trading the birds an item and see what happens! This feathered family will be in Vana'diel from December 31, 7:00 (PST) to January 9, 19:00 (PST).

I've traded things a few times to these in different areas, and usually I get nothing but a silly fortune of what's going to happen in the new year -_- One time I traded a stack of earth crystals to a bird in batalia downs, and got shock spikes. another time I traded a stack of some other kind of crystal to the bird of wonder in west ronfaure, and got a new year's gift. I was so excited. I used it, so giddy to see what it was, and I got fishing support. I don't even fish...

Probably they will scatter moggles and tarus dressed as cupids and get you to "pair up" some npcs.
That would be fun to watch. Also quite stupid if you ask me.

I also traded a mithkabob to the bird of wonder in valkum and recieved en thunder.

Also as I was doing trades I aquired a lathein cabbage from a trade, my appologies but I do not know what it was from.

Saw the Bird of Wonder in Altepa, traded it a lightning cluster, and it said something along the lines of "you'll have a good year," and that was it. Didn't notice any buffs since i already had several on.

I saw the Bird of Peace and the Birdlings flying around through Sauromonge Champaign. I didn't know you were supposed to trade them items for things, so I just watched them for a minute, then ran to Garlaige Citadel.

Apparently you get the gift for trading the birds any 12 items. I gave them 9 darts i had left over an earth crystals, a lizard tail and an insect wing in the south gustaberg. I also noticed when i was done, that i had protect shll and haste. they wore off pretty quick, probably because i was only a 3 BLM.

I was a 60RDM and the Protect and Shell also wore off quickly for me. I suspect the birds enhancing skill isn't yet (or never will be) strong enough to keep the buffs on long.

If anybody finds out more about what items/combos you can trade to the bird, please post. I don't fish so don't need the new years gift, but I remember seeing another item mentioned in the moogles vs goblins trading card quest where they used the viewer and saw new years gift and costume box on it. Now I know what the new years gift is, but I'm wondering about the costume box. If anybody finds anything out please reply.

I got Shock Spikes from trading the lead bird a bird egg... must be totally random cause another person got the same buff from a sleepshroom...

I was leveling RNG and laughing at people who were running around following them... for like 2 hours!

I saw the birds in the jungle when I went to pull a goblin. I saw some anon high levels run by and then saw the birds. I thought for sure they were a train and I started screaming for my PT to come check it out as I ran to zone lol. I thought I was going to die.

I traded the Bird of Wonder one of the Cards from the previous event and it cast Enthunder on me. When I tried it later I traded it a pugil scale and it cast Shell on me, so i'm guessing if you trade the right items you get that rare/ex envelope or whatever, but it appreciates other items and offers small buffs in return. Could come in handy while fighting to have Enthunder on everyone, esp in dunes :)
