EverQuest Producer's Letter: July Update

Holly Longdale discusses the upcoming campaign, TLP servers, and more.

Yesterday afternoon, Executive Producer Holly "Windstalker" Longdale discussed the current progress of the EverQuest team's plans. The campaign expected out later this year is still in development, with the team continuing to also work in monthly bug fixes and improvement updates. The Ragefire and Lockjaw servers will have transfers enabled later today, and soon Ragefire's voting timer will be modified to a quicker pace. The team is also looking at a special rules server (potentially a "no boxing" progression server) to come out this winter. Crash issues are being looked into, while CS is working through petitions due to a failure on the Lockjaw server this past Monday.

Read the entire letter after the jump and leave your feedback on the official forums.

Greetings Norrathians,

I wanted to give you an update of what we’re up to on the EQ team.

To start with, we have continued working on the Campaign content for later in the year and it’s looking great so far! At the same time, the team continues to add fixes and quality-of-life improvements in our monthly updates as we move forward.

We have been listening to a lot of feedback and discussing some options so we are starting a plan for a special rules server for winter for those people looking for a different experience. We are working on the details, but it seems like a No Bot/No Box Progression server could be a lot of fun (and we might explore some other additions as well). It requires some coding to enforce a single client per computer, so winter seems likely for that release, after the upcoming Campaign.

On the TLP servers – Ragefire and Lockjaw – we are still planning on starting transfers on Thursday afternoon ahead of the expansion voting time frame for Ragefire (if you want to learn more about transfers, please see this post). We had an unfortunate (putting it mildly) failure on Lockjaw on Monday and are working through some of the issues with rollbacks and helping our CS team with petitions.

For all servers, we are chasing some crash issues. We have spent time getting data so we can address those problems.

I also wanted to take a moment and give a heartfelt thanks to our guides. The program is growing and they are back to doing what guides are great at – being players who help the player community. Feels like old times! (I used to be a guide way back in 2001!)

Stay tuned as we bring you more details as we move ahead!

basically the only info about the Campaign is that it is still being worked on.

I plan to buy it for my main only unless their is a new lvls which I doubt
.
But the truth is I am still doing HOT for AC augs for my SK and AC trophies then I have VOA for Augs and any Trophies then ROF for T2 Prog/coll then COTF T1/T1 Prog/coll then TDS Porg/Coll for my boxes. I still need a working site like https://everquest.allakhazam.com/ to play my game with new updates.

So no new expansions and now no boxing servers...? WTF are you people thinking?? I know major part of the income you get from EQ is from boxers.. They are the most hardcore players.. Bottom line. That's why you should have a true player with an actual high IQ running the show at EQ. Not some part time player BS. New expansions with levels, races, spells, zones... gets them coming back, seems simple.. But I guess My IQ is a lot higher then most.. Does Holly even Fin play EQ?? And when I ask that I mean when she was not getting paid to work for daybreak or SOE? I don't want to play old content!! you can play it on any server just start a new toon are people dumb? Camps are over run by people trying to get cash and kronos.. lame... I won't come back till there is a new expansion.. Middle finger up.. Glad that douche Smed is gone btw. Jerk thought he was tooooo cool. You could tell that kids ego was bigger then his enormous fat head already was..

I.... I... kind of agree with everything.

I 13 boxed. When they announced campaigns instead of full expansions, that kind of killed it for me. My gold accounts expired a month or so ago, my ISBoxer sub expires probably September of this year. Haven't logged in since end of May. I was even invited back to the progression server with an account I wouldn't have to pay for. Sadly, I just don't have the heart to come back. I had such high expectations for Daybreak. I assumed Smed would have gone much earlier than he did, which certainly didn't help.

Here's the future of EQ: No new content after the lacklustre campaign flops. New progression servers with various flavours and rules and quirks. Fade into sunset (or at least no longer updated and supported, see Windows XP) within 18 months. And at this point, I'm not even angry about it. THAT is what hurts me the most.

I agree with snailfish, I would be surprised if the population would be sufficient to make it work.

Surely all these progression servers suggest we need a new take on EQ like starting again. So instead of having an increased level, have a new set of zones where your level and stats drop down like dividing by 100? So AC2 is something worth getting. This way the developers, can start a new EQ from scratch, but with all the existing players still being able to come in and go back to POK. When in POK your stats are maxed to whatever you had in POK before going to the new zones. When you go to the new zones your stats reset to the new ones you have been earning.

Also while I am at it with suggestions, how about allowing mercs on raids for all prior expansions to the current one.
Sad for your outlook

The server hasn't even been made yet and you're already contributing to a negative outlook? Why not just be happy that the developers are listening and trying to accommodate to both styles of players---boxers and those who enjoy a non-boxing environment. Some people just refuse to be happy no matter what I guess.

Why would any boxer want to play on a server specifically designed and coded for not boxing? Most boxers I know of box because they want to enjoy the game by themselves, have super-limited play time, some other factor that requires them to box, or they just plain enjoy playing more than one class simultaneously. Nowadays people see someone playing more than one character and it's automatically, "3rd party software cheater ruining it for everyone else."

I'm sorry...it's just frustrating to see the EQ team trying to please everyone and doing a pretty good job (I never thought I'd see the day where a no box / bot server would come to light) and others coming along before it even exists and casting a cloud over it.

Cheer up....it's just a game after all....

The no boxing server is an interesting idea, sort of a twist on the original FV server "one character limit".

Kind of makes sense to do both if bothering with the no box?

I wonder if a viable population will play it... (I don't bother trying to box anymore so I could play on it and not have my playstyle preferences pinched).

It would be a great idea, and I would be very interested in it. I play solo or two box at most. Problem is, you just know people who army box with 3rd party software will find a way to infiltrate the server. And dh raid guilds who will use any means necessary to hit max level in a few days.
