Command & Conquer Development Skids to a Halt

Command & Conquer development has been shut down by EA.

On October 29th Victory Games announced that all development on its title Command & Conquer has been halted by publisher Electronic Arts. In a short blog post the studio outlined the reasons for the cancellation:

"Part of being in a creative team is the understanding that not all of your choices are going to work out. In this case, we shifted the game away from campaign mode and built an economy-based, multiplayer experience. Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play."

However, Victory Games was quick to ensure Command & Conquer fans that their beloved franchise was looking for a new direction in development:

"We believe that Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with huge potential and a great history, and we are determined to get the best game made as soon as possible. To that end, we have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the game back on track."

In summary, development has been brought to a stop until Victory Games can figure out a formula to bring back the Command & Conquer series the right way. While this may seem like bleak news for the franchise, it is refreshing to see a developer and publisher recognize poor customer feedback and to adjust development accordingly. Best of luck to Victory Games as they look for a viable way to bring back Command & Conquer.
