Camelot Unchained Kickstarter Goes Live

City State Entertainment's new RvR-focused MMO begins asking for pledges

When City State Entertainment president Marc Jacobs mentioned earlier this year that they were working on a new Realm-vs-Realm focused MMO, quite a few people got excited. Marc is renowned for working on games like Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online; both of which are pretty well-known for their focus on PvP combat. They've only given out a few details here and there since those original posts, saving the rest for when they launched their crowdfunding campaign. That day has finally arrived as Camelot Unchained's Kickstarter campaign went live earlier today.

In their quest to make the $2 million goal they've set for the Kickstarter, CSE has set 31 different tiers of pledges to choose from. In case you don't want to read through all of those, I'll highlight the minimum amounts you'll need to pledge for some of the major items:

  • $25+: Digital copy of the game, Beta access (when you get access goes up with pledge tiers), and a free month of the subscription (also goes up with pledge tiers)
  • $50+: Digital soundtrack, extra beta invite and character slot
  • $75+: Discounted subscription rates
  • $250+: Physical reward tiers start here. For digital tiers, the "renew your sub for $1/year" rewards start here

There's more to each of those tiers than what I've listed above and there's even more rewards if you decide to pledge higher. If you'd like to learn more about Camelot Unchained, head on over to their Kickstarter page. You can also go to the game's website if you'd like to read up on the new MMO's Foundational Principles..

Personally, I don't have a lot of experience with RvR games, but I am interested in this one. Primarily because of what Marc said about crafting being its own profession and crafters being able to go build fortresses in contested areas, turrets and traps to defend it, and make gear for players that's actually useful beyond leveling.

Of course I'm probably one of the only people who looks at a game from developers with a major RvR pedigree and thinks, "Oh boy, crafting!", so I'm probably not their target demographic.
