MoP Sells 2.7 Million Copies in First Week

Passes 10 Million Subscribers Again

After all the talk from analysts in the last week about how well Mists of Pandaria sold, we have the final word from Blizzard themselves. A press release this week states that the expansion sold 2.7 million copies in the first week, including all of the digital sales. In addition the global subscription count for World of Warcraft has once again passed the 10 million mark.

Looks like Mirai's third point from his article was correct. If the analysts were correct about there being only 600-700k physical sales, that means that another 2 million players decided they wanted to download the game rather than picking up a box. This is probably astonishing to Lazard Capital and other similar analysts, but I'm not terribly surprised people would opt for convenience over physical product.
Unless you're buying the Collector's Edition, there's no need for a physical copy since the game's the same. Even some of the additional goodies are the same since you could buy the Digital Deluxe version and get all of the in-game parts of the Collectors Edition along with the game. If I wasn't a sucker for art books and soundtracks, I would've just downloaded the game too.
