Trion Discusses 1.5 and Beyond at Gamescom

Members of the guild Result on the Immerwacht EU server had the chance to attend a meet and greet with Vice President/Executive Development Director Russ Brown and Producer Adam Gershowitz at Gamescom to learn about Rift Update 1.5 and beyond. According to the developers, 1.5 will launch near the end of September or beginning of October and will introduce the first part of the post-50 Planar Attunement advancement system, Chronicles of Telara dungeons for solo players or small groups, and the new Library of the Runemasters Warfront.

They also talk about future content past 1.5. For example, Brown hints that Ember Isle comes out in two patches with a new zone and a new style of gameplay. "Social life" features like a barber shop are also in the works.

You can watch the video below to hear all the details straight from Brown and Gershowitz, and you can read Result's own summary of the major points after the jump. Head over to our Rift general forum to join in on the discussion surrounding this news.

Result's Summary of the Video's Major Points

We (Result - Immerwacht EU) have been to the GamesCom in Cologne and had quite some luck to arange a meet 'n' greet with Vice President/Executive Development Director Russ Brown and RIFT Producer Adam Gershowitz. Here's a little summary of the topics:

to patch 1.5:
- 1.5 will go live end of september - beginning of october
- There will be "single-dungeons" as a part of the "Chronicles of Telara". These dungeons are for more casual players who don't have the times like full raiders do. You can easily clear this dungeons with 1-2 players (depends on the equip) but the difficulty will not scale with the amount of players in the dungeon. Hammerknell will be the first "solo-dungeon" so that casual gamers are able to see that type of dungeon as well.
- There will be the "Master-Mode". The Developers said that it is going to be hard to solve these dungeons. It's for gamers between full raiding and casual. Right now, Darkening Deeps and Deepstrike Mines are the first dungeons in testing phase. There probably will be more depending on which dungeons the community wants to see.
- The new "Hammerknell"-Warfront "Library of the Runemasters" will be released
- The first parts of the new "Planar Achievment System" will go live. From level 50 on you will get points for earned EP from daily quests etc. These points can be spent in 6 extra bonus skilltrees to adjust the characters a little more and give them some finetuning.

other facts:
- The new 10-man-dungeon "Rise of the phoenix" won't be released with 1.5 because they are focusing on other things (see above) and it is still in testing
- The new 10-man-dungeon will be as hard as Hammerknell just with 10 man!
- The new Zone won't come live with 1.5
- But there will be new Raid-Rifts with the new zone (1.6 or later)
- The aspect "social-life" was discussed. Developers are plannig some fancy features like a "barber-shop" where you can change the face of your character.
- The "Warrior and leather" issue was discussed. They want to have every class their own equip-class. So warriors won't prefer leather instead of plate anymore in future. so don't buy any leather from you tokens any more warriors because they will adjust the items step by step^^

there should have been a guild structure from the get go... it could even be a generic one that all players could have accessed, but would load into a seperate instance for your guild... i talked about this in the beta forums pre launch around beta 3 i believe

single play instances sound alright to me, i am a casual player as it is and dont have the time to raid like i used too.

barbershops huh?? they better start adding some special things that are not in the creator...

no leather for warriors... umm shouldnt that have been fixed before launch??

1.5 will add the 6 other skill trees?? about time... but thats over a month away!
Great

Well lets see. Pve servers stable and pvp'rs jumped ship after 1 month. Who would I prefer them to spend money? Loyal pve customers or game hopping pvp'rs who are leaving when GW2 launches anyways?

Why not focus the WHOLE new zone on PvP. Don't offer us the same things we have already(exception for non PvP servers). More instances, more rifts, more sliver rtc, we have this coming out of our eyes already. More of the same will not make people stay, it will just make it boooooooring.

The new zone could offer real reasons to actually have world PvP!

"Greed works", so base the whole zone on that. Revards for farming high end monsters. Bosses roaming the zone. Dungeons etc. You orginize your self in order to stay alive, green vs red!

"If you build it, he will come...", Guild castles would really make peaple socialise with the guild mates between planned things, instead of hanging in the capital city waiting for things to get started.

"Say hello to my little friend" Just love this movie line...

Don't just be WoW with a twist, challange the geanre more.
Why not allow loot to be random in this zone. You know, let luck roll on how many attributes, what attributes and how high attributes. Sure it could give you plate with intel and spell crite etc, but once in a while you get that perfect shining uber item...

If you get a good pice, its should have a chance be better than the raid stuff you have. If it's not that good...break it and you have farmed crafting materials.

If you make an entire zone based on pvp, that would only work on 1/3rd of the current servers, as the other 2/3rds won't have people flagged, thus making it impossible.

They already have the rare hunting achievement, and the hunting rep dedicated to getting them.

The biggest issue with giving people land in game, is that a player base can grow or shrink. That means you'd have to have a dynamic zone. On some servers, might be 20 'castles' while others might have 100. In WoW, a bunch of us had alts in alt guilds for extra guild bank storage, why not just have alt castles? CoV/CoH does guild headquarters, doesn't work that well for them. Instead of staying in town like you said, they just stay in there.

Disregarding the typos, this point is a horrible idea. First off, you say don't be wow, when wow does exactly this. They have a set of prefixs (i.e. 'of the whale', 'of the bear' etc) that meant certain stats (similarly how to using a certain augment changes your items name). You got gear that wasn't matched properly, or had a stupid set of stats on it. For example, a piece of plate that would have focus on it and then dex. Random stats are not what people want. But then you go on to say if you get a piece that actually has balanced stats (plate with say... str and attack power or crit) it would be better than raid content? So instead of doing hard 10 man or 20 man raids.. you should just farm green/blue/purples that randomly drop from random mobs, and hope to get stuff, since it's better?

That isn't how balance works. If you want raid equiv gear with less work, the new Chronicles are what you want to do. 1-3 players depending on your gear and spec, with gear equiv to the previous raid tier. Less work, more loot.
