Icecrown Citadel Gets Zone Buff

King Varian Wrynn and Garrosh Hellscream show up to offer their "blessings"

With the 3.3.3 patch around the corner, raiders in Icecrown Citadel get the blessing from their respective commanders to boost health, healing and damage. Get more details after the break ...

When players logged in to World of Warcraft on Tuesday after the server reset, raiders in ICC found a new presence in the entry hall. King Varian Wrynn for the Alliance and Garrosh Hellscream for the Horde were on hand to offer buffs to raiders ready to make their way to the Lich King.

The new buffs, called Strength of Wrynn and Hellscream's Warsong, offer 5 percent buffs to players in health, healing and damage. However, talking to Wrynn or Hellscream gives you the option to turn the buff off if you wish to continue with the unnerfed experience.

There are plans for more buffs in 5 percent increments, up to 30 percent, but there is no timeframe yet for those to be implemented.

According to this post from Zarhym:

As many of you may have noticed, the Icecrown Citadel raid buffs have been activated. These buffs increase total health, healing done and damage dealt by 5% for all raid members. In addition, the number of attempts on the final bosses of each wing and the Lich King allotted raid groups on Heroic difficulty has been increased to 35. These buffs -- referred to as Strength of Wrynn for the Alliance and Hellscream’s Warsong for the Horde -- can be deactivated by speaking to your faction’s leader at Light’s Hammer.

They could always create achievements or alter existing ones regarding progression with/without the buff. That would quell a lot of complaints I think, 'cause you know how people love their achievements.

It is still into effect from what I understand. Paragon got the world-first heroic LK kill yesterday (or maybe the day before) while it was active. They said that the encounter had a bug that made the fight significantly more difficult causing some close wipes that they wasted a lot of attempts on, but the bug was fixed on the same patch day as the buff was added which they decided not to disable.

I like the concept. What is the penalty for having it enabled?

My guild started ICC last night. The buff was nice, but 5% isn't going to make or break most groups. I will probably disable the buff for our guild if we exceed 10%. We're a casual guild, but at the same time enjoy a challenge. Letting it stack to 30% is too overkill in my opinion and cheapens the kill. If you can't do it after 10 or 15% you probably should go to lower level content for a few weeks and work your gear and skill up.

As far as I know there is no penalty involved at all for using the boosts, just it lessesn the e-peen.

This seems very early to be adding it. Cataclysm isn't even in beta yet.

I happy to see that you can turn it off, though. It'd also be nice if once more powerful buffs are introduced you can tone it down. So the 30% buff could be toned down to the 5% buff if you wanted.

This isn't the last dungeon, but they really want to give people enough time to see it. I definitely don't see even this turning everything puggable(at least, not with your average bad PuG), but groups that are decent but not great will make some great strides thanks to this.

Yes heaven forbid a casual player get to experience fighting the Lich King. They should make the game like Everquest 1 were only hardcore elitest can even use new expansions. In fact lets just ban casual players from the game and cut the subscription rates in half so only elitest can enjoy the game.

Seriously turn the buff off if you don't like it, or go play another game if your too good for this one.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 03 2010 at 11:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think it's sad how their now adding a progressive buff to end-game content...

Though you're unlikely to read this reply, Blizz has stated they're not going to make very difficult raids anymore post-Sunwell. The days of hardass raids like first iteration Naxx are gone; world of casualcraft has long since arrived. This method allows less eliteness yes, but it makes sense to Blizz from a financial perspective.

trolling much?

I don't see you posting your main/character/guild. Only a very small % of the raiding community has LK down, there is 1 guild on my server (stormscale US) that has LK 25man down, maybe 2.

Oh, and we will see you soon after the release of the SWMMO when you realize that there is little/no end-game content similarly to the Star Trek Online, and when you realize that Blizzard's end-game is far superior to that of any other real MMO.

zTrue you can turn it off, and I am an eliitist..problems with that?

Oh and to answer your question:

Forsakencry-Onyxia Server Guild:ETERNAL
3111heroes/5703 addon

And our guild HAS downed LK(althought not me personally) and is progression realm 1st Hardmodes...

Happy now?

Also, if some clown in your group ninja-disables the buff, you can turn it back on by leaving the instance and hitting "Reset All Instances".
