I don't usually post anything because I'm a sorry solo player but I managed to get to the Blizz boards a bit ago and see some guy begging for a day credit for the lost time due to the patch.

It's 50 cents... OK, so the guy makes the case its that times the number of people playing.

It's free content that Blizz paid the Dev's to develop over the last year. There has to be a pretty good cost there. Yeah, they'll get it back with revenue from the expansion but they're giving the guts out for free.

Its gonna take me a few hours to download even with a 1.5 meg cable connection. What about the people using 128, 256, or 512 connections?? What about the ones still on dial up??

I could use my emergency dial up connection and take a few days to download the patch. Does that mean I can send Blizz a bill for 4 days of playing, 8 packs of smokes and two cases of beer??

While I agree 50 cents is not worth it, this content is not free,we pay every month for it.

So far, this is the worst job I have seen on a patch as far as being ready and having the servers working properly.

I agree to a point that we pay each month.... that keeps the world rolling.. I put gas im my truck everyday but that doesnt mean my truck gets updated for free every year...

The downtime for this "patch" sucks but we're getting alot for free. I was playing Star Wars Galaxies a few years ago when they destroyed the game for "FREE". Yes this sucks but trust me when I say it could be much worse.

But..BUT .. ask me again tomorrow when I can't login (hopefully this is resolved) and I may change my mind about whether "free content" is worth it or not

It would be complete non-sense to think we don't pay for updates.
If you compare it to a vechicle, it would be more like your computer is the vehicle, the game is a highway, and your monthly fee is taxes. When I pay taxes, I expect the highways to be of a certain quality, because I pay for it.
That being said... if highways need to be upgraded, I would expect construction, road closures, and delays... and I certainly wouldn't expect a tax rebate because of it.
No sense in complaining when they are attempting to make things better.

Ignoring content additions and bug fixes etc. I would of thought Blizzard's bandwidth costs would be HUGE.
Not to mention the amount of hardware they have to use, and it certainly isn't gonna be cheap stuff now is it?

So our money is paying for new content AND to keep the servers online so we can actually play.
If you look it that way your paying a lot less for content and more for being able to play the game.

Anyway, we have normal maintenance on Wednesdays and noone complains about missed gaming time and wants an extra day. Would you like an extra day for the time you spend at work/school and are unable to play?
