the Gaia Online team announced today the launch of the public open beta for zOMG!, its first casual MMO.

During the Open Beta testing phase, Gaia is opening zOMG! to a much larger audience of both community members and the general public. While in this period, Gaia is encouraging players to provide feedback on the game through the site’s message boards and forums. zOMG! will continue to grow and evolve throughout the Open Beta phase, as members offer feedback and continue to shape the world.

The open beta for Gaia Online's new casual MMO "zOMG!" will open on Oct. 27 for Gaia community members. According to a press release, "8,500 lucky Golden Ticket holders will be the first entrants, scoring exclusive early playtime in the casual MMO before the first wave of Gaians flood the game’s gates."

zOMG! will most likely be out of beta later this year. Over 120,000 players applied to be a part of the closed beta, which launched in July.

Over 10,000 community members will be able to participate in the beta program.Gaia Online proudly announces that the game's official name will be "zOMG!", a term generated from the virtual world's active community. In development since 2006, zOMG! is scheduled for release this summer, and will give the community a new way to play, socialize, and explore.

In April, Gaia Online announced that it would accept requests for entry into the beta program. Over 120,000 applications to enter the closed beta were submitted by community members. Players selected from Gaia Online's active community of over five million will get the chance to play in-game with the creators of zOMG! and provide feedback on the game.

Gaia Online, the world's most active online community, is offering New York Comic-Con attendees the first chance to win access to the Gaia Online casual massively multiplayer online game (MMO). In development since 2007, a closed beta version of the Gaia Online MMO is scheduled for release this summer, and will give the community a new way to play, socialize, and explore. The contest will take place Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20 in booth #1357 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

"The idea for our casual MMO came from our five million active members," said Craig Sherman, CEO of Gaia Online. "In our community forums, they asked for a new way to play games and interact with their friends. The MMO is our answer to their request, and our community is the perfect platform for this type of game."
