I just found this and I remember doing it at the very beginning of the expansion.
Apparently for some servers its still viable

On my server those 3 carnelians can be turned into Inferno Rubies which can then be cut and sold for 300-500g.
I use the other green quality gems (except for useless Zephyrite which gets cut and vendored) to make jewelery which I then DE and sell the mats from, but red gems sell for a great deal on my server.
