Enchanting: What am I doing wrong?Follow

Just switched professions and I must be doing something wrong. DISenchanting of small greens is working, as is creation of rods and wands. But when i try to use any of the other recipes an apprentice supposedly knows, it shows that I have all the necessary ingredients, but does not give me a 'create" option, only a field marked "enchant". That one doesn't respond in any way when clicked.

Can anyone tell me what I should be doing?

You probably need to create an enchanting rod. You need to have this on your person at all times. If you do not have it in your inventory, it will say you can not more forward.

Took me like 20 min. the other day to figure out that my rod was in my bank...

...that sounded wrong.

Enchanting scrolls came to the game fairly late - when the profession was first invented, "enchant" was purely a verb, when you combine the mats by pressing the button, it changes your cursor and you would point to the item you want to enchant. This can be either in your inventory, or in the "will not be traded" slot in a trade window (the latter was the only way for non-enchanters to get any chants). So to create an enchanting scroll, you have to have the raw vellum (bought from an enchanting supplies vendor) in your inventory and point to it after clicking enchant.

If they were making the profession today, they'd skip the vellum (remember when making a simple fire took two different mats?) and just have the button press create a BoE scroll that you'd then trade in the trade window.

Yeah, you have to either have the enchanting vellums, and "store" the enchant with them, or you have to enchant your own gear (or someone else's). It's really aggravating actually, especially when you're used to being able to just set up your toon to make a bunch of stuff and then go make yourself a snack. =x
