Hello and Welcome to the PUM.
First of all, despite the term mercenary, nobody will be earning any money. I'm sorry.

For those who are still reading:

I figured that with the many posts popping up from people who
need help with quest or mission such- or so, I might make an effort to try and change that.

I (lvl 51 rdm atm.) hereby offer my help on basically any quest or mission that I could help with..
on one condition:

If someone from this board helps you out, you are honor-bound to perform 2 favors for other people on this board, if you're able to.
For example, someone from here helps you get rank 4, and you're lvl 36.
Later, someone here aks for help getting a magicked skull. by helping him, you'll make sure that:
a) more people here will be *offering* help.
b) you'll actually be able to ask for help more than once =P.

We do ask that you register before posting. (though I believe that's a prerequisite for posting on the server forums anyway.)

So far, the people offering help and their respective lvls are:

Findanniin: lvl 55/27 redmage/blackmage
Damind : lvl 53/26 ninja/warrior
Snarf : lvl 55/27 Samurai/Warrior
Ryanstryfe: lvl 50/25 Red mage/black mage
Meropi : lvl 57/28 Monk/samurai
Trudat : lvl 30/15 White Mage/ Black Mage
Valarius : lvl 30/15 Black Mage/ White Mage
CyberCrusader:lvl 53/26 Paladin/ Warrior
Shiinpu : lvl 56/25 Red Mage/ Summoner
TechJag : lvl 44/22 White Mage/ Black Mage
Foxfai : lvl 54/26 Paladin/Warrior
Puguoshuguoo: lvl 40/20 Black Mage/SMN
KailAshton: lvl 62/31 Dragoon/Warrior
Lycender : lvl 60/30 Paladin/Warrior
Mierin : lvl 30/15 White Mage/Black Mage
Vagabont : lvl 54/27 Dragoon/???
Edd : lvl 51/25 White Mage/Black Mage
Blancka : lvl 51/25 Dragoon/Warrior
Echtone : lvl 38/19 Paladin/Warrior
Doriana : lvl 59/29 Monk/Warrior
Elva : lvl 46/23 Red Mage/ Black Mage
Jaru : lvl 64/32 Black Mage/ White Mage

If anyone would just like to add themselves on this list, please just post and I'll edit you into it.
Thanks for offering help to those who did. we might even make a difference, or is that just hopefull naivity speaking? ;-).

A final note: Post a "looking for help" on the forum before sending /tells ingame. Also, when you have been helped, come post it here.

*Curent Contracts*

It's called "pay it forward". Just like the movie. Excellent idea. However, I fear there are too many "users and abusers" in the game for this to really work. I wish the best of luck to all who participate in this.

I know I am in debt to the Phoenix society, but I keep trying to help whenever asked.

/clap

Excellent idea.

Ganiman is right when he says this is the same as the system "Pay It Forward". However, in our world of Vana'diel is it as affective?

You Mention the you help someone with Rank 4 and they help someone with obtaining a Magiked Skull. But are such feats so significant that It will motivate every player to return the act of kindness? As portrayed in the movie each three acts of benevolence ensued were of great life altering proportion. So for this to work we may have to do something more significant then just help them obtain one sole possession. For they can always find someone else's help who is the same level and stats as you, but has a different motive in his/her heart.

The idea is a good one, and I agree that helping others instead of putting your self first is what makes online games so enriching. However, is there really a necessity to post names and acts?
Rather everyone that reads this post should find it within them selves to help others in distressed situations when the moment arises. If you see people having trouble, offer your hand. To new comers in this land a higher level helping can give them influence to choose a certain career, or help othes, or thrive to suceed so they to can help lower levels. And the whole time they will remember that one act of kindness in the back of their mind, and it will change the world.

You are of course absolutely right.
However, how many of us have spend hours doing /tells to higher lvls,or shouting for help in jeuno for hours straight?

I think the answer would be quite many.

Now, I have never seen the movie, but this post might mean that someone could, with a single post and waiting for a night or so, set a "date" with someone to get said quest out of the way.

The hours he/she would have otherwise been spent askign for help in jeuno or by /tells would then be used to help someone else.

Of course, it is an easy to abuse system, which is why I would like to see it posted when something's been done for someone.

I have at numerous times helped people who immediatly disbanded with no more of a departing line than "kk bye."

Certainly at high levels, pretty much everything you'd want to do in the game involves seeking help from other people, which I can imagine frustrates a lot of people into leaving the game.
You have...
- Genkai alliances
- AF coffer key hunts/NM fights
- Skill-up parties
- Certain quests
- Missions
- NM fights with useful rare/ex drops
Also, most AF1 quests are extremely difficult for lower 40s characters to solo, if not impossible, and of course, the infamous subjob quest for 18, especially if you took the Mhaura one.

That's why I think this is an excellent idea. Of course, some people are probably blessed with a nice linkshell where you can just send out a call for help and have an army of people ready to help you, so they wouldn't be interested in this at all. That's great if you do, but not all of us have that power/privilege... if you even consider it as such.

The only problem I see with it is the fairness of it all. Is Genkai I really equivalent to two Magicked Skulls, or maybe one Kazham key and a Rank 2-3 mission? Well... no. But, I doubt that's what Findanniin is trying to establish here with this concept. I think certain people in the game are extremely kind and realize how much better the game would be if other people shared the same attitude. It really does hurt when I see people who think that all the game is composed of is leveling, leveling, and more leveling. There are things you can do with friends (if you have any), places you can explore, quests you can try to figure out on your own or do with a friend, or make new friends, etc. Because people get too buried in this "race to 75", they miss out on a lot of other very cool things they could be doing =)
To those that don't want to help here, don't let that stop you from helping someone. It can be one of the most rewarding feelings you get for yourself, and it's fun to do when you have nothing better to do. Can't find a group? Waiting for stuff to sell on AH? There's always someone who needs your help, so go find them =/

And to Findanniin, the most magnanimous person I know, I'd love to help, but sadly I'm MIA for at least the remainder of the month, as I've recently moved and am unable to connect to the game from my new place. I'll try to get back on next month though. Heh, hope everything is going well. I wish you the best of luck.

Realistically, when you get to higher levels, you will have a pool of people who you draw on, and who will draw on you. These people will know you from alliances, xp parties, missions, LS etc. Reputation is very important, and how you conduct yourself will also determine your end game enjoyment.

Food for thought! It's rare I ever enter into a party where I do not know one or two people already, and everybody in our group helps everybody. When we set up parties, we typically only need to send out the call, and everyone forms up one way or another.

To highlight this, I have done....well lots and lots of AF3 NM hunts, and I find we usually have TOO MANY volunteers (18+ in alliance). That's how great it is!

Inadvertantly, we have paid it forward many many times, and that's why this game is so damn fun!

Setting a date is exactly what I have begun to implement on www.teamavengers.org. There is a calendar on the site. Registered (linkshell) members can log into the site, and submit events to the calendar for all to see. Then, interested people can "sign up" for the event. The calendar isn't quite complete yet, but most of the functionality is there. I think having a calendar to look at is much better than searching through a thread on a message board.

Like I said, the calendar on www.teamavengers.org isn't finished yet, but I believe it to be a first on any FFXI fan site. The finished calendar will bold (or italicize/color/whatever) dates that have events scheduled so they will be easy to find.

Example1: If you plan to play Friday night, you can visit the website, click on Friday's date and see who is organzing what quest/mission.

Example2: It's Monday. You want AF1. You visit the site, click on Friday, and add an event for Friday. Others visit the site, such as Example1, and choose the participate option for your event.

I agree with you about the hours spent trying to find help for certain quests/missions, which is what gave me this idea. If you like it great! If you think you have an idea to make it even better, even more great! Visit the site, sign up for the forums and post your comments there.

Hey guys 30 blm/15 whm right now..took time off to start doing quests and explore more often, but as you guys know (or maybe not) pretty much all of the North East players are unable to get on FF due to our internet providers (Optimum Online). I just started doing static with my party and am unable to contact any of them and I'd appreciate it very very much if someone could give Avatarx (LS leader) a /tell and let him know that I along with the rest of the NE cannot get on due to internet problems. And worst we dont know until when, I just feel badly about the situation and i'd appreciate help. Names Valarius and if you ever need help or anything I can do just /tell and ill be happy to help....if i ever get back on lol :)
