Went to the movies today and saw it. It was a good movie. I think it deserves the good reviews it has received so far. Best part about traveling for work is the town I stay in most often has a movie theater that offers 5 dollar tickets for the 1st showing of a movie every day before 1pm. Wish my home town would do that.

There are a few slow moments, and a couple obvious cliches (I didn't mind the alien time travel story, but the "in 3000 years" part irked me. I mean, I get it, they are from the future, but these arbitrarily large numbers based on a concept of time that the aliens may or may not have always make me roll my eyes.) but overall it was done well. The overall twist is fun, and you notice it coming about 1/2 - 3/4 thru the movie, but the language aspect of the movie is what really got me. Usually they focus on the science/math as the universal language. This one the lead character is a linguistics expert. And over the course of the movie she comes to understand their written language (the aliens don't have a spoken language).

The movie pokes at a few things in modern media throughout. Usually with the way the media is reporting on things. Seems a common theme these days in movies.

The movie must have had a different target audience than my usual movies. Because I went in for the Sci-Fi, but the trailers were all kind of... Drama-y. Including one called Gold, that features a fat and balding Matthew McConaughey.

I've tried about five times to read the short story that it's based on and I just can't do it. Hopefully the movie is better, but I'm not spending any money to find out.

The story is by no means original, it's just good. For 5 bucks on a Sunday morning trapped in a hotel it was good (I would have been fine paying full price and seeing it). But if you are one to be picky about your movies, it will make for good FX weekend movie marathon watching.

Forgot that this trailer played. Pretty sure I liked the song more than I did the idea of the movie. But the movie looked interesting too.

Oh, and a Kolacny cover used in another trailer (I like most of their covers)

(Does Kristin Stewart have any movies where she doesn't looked drugged up?)

All I know about this movie is that I'm damned tired of seeing one of the same three commercials for it every time Youtube loads a video. Looks good, though.

Just saw this movie on Friday. It's probably my favorite science fiction movie since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Very well done.
