lol thanks. but i guess the only people who actually took offense to my name are the actual ho's out there. but seriously. i have seen a person named smokers and weedmasta and all these others names. but my name? lol oh well
Just because YOU aren't offended by something doesn't mean everyone in the world shouldn't be offended by it. Everyone has different backgrounds and experiences that cause them to find different things offensive. Some people wonder why the word *** is offensive. Maybe they wouldn't wonder that if they grew up being called a *** by neighborhood kids everyday. Certain words become sensitive to certain people.
What if the person who called the GM on you was a woman who was the victim of domestic violence or date rape. Can you blame her for being a little bit sensitive to a name that implies violence against women? Can you blame her for not wanting to be reminded of that violence everytime she logs on?
In fact, I know at least one woman playing this game that was the victim of date rape. Would you call her a "ho" and tell her to get over it? "It was just a joke. It was on Saturday Night Live. Jeez, get over it. You must be a ho if you were offended by it." I'm sure she would appreciate such advice.
In truth, I don't think you meant to offend anyone by making your first name. But as soon as you found out someone was offended, instead trying to understand how someone might be offended, you threaten to make this person's life even worse with this gargabe:
I WANT TO KNOW THE MORON WHO SAID MY NAME WAS INAPPROPRIATE AND CALLED A GM ON ME AND MADE ME CHANGE MY NAME. I WANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!! CAUSE IF I FIND OUT. I WILL RUIN YOUR GAMING EXPERIENCE FOR THE REST OF TIME. YOU THINK TRAINING A COUPLE GOBS NEAR CAMP IS BAD? ILL FIND EVERY GOB THERE EVER WAS AND TRAIN THEM ON YOUR PARTY. so who every called on me i hope you die a slow painful death
I could care less what people call their characters. And I agree that some people can be too easily offended. All I'm saying is you should not automatically respond with hate when you offend someone and don't initially understand why. Maybe they have a good reason for being offended that you don't know about.

Just because a word appears in a dictionary doesn't mean it's not offensive. Some words are labelled "derogatory" which should tell you that people will find their use offensive. Even words that are not normally derogatory can offend people. Would you name a character ChildMolestor and not expect anyone to be offended?
And no, I don't think people who are offended enough by a name to trouble a GM think they "rox0rz" because they got someone's name changed. There are far more people who think they "rox0rz" because the GM made them change their name. Just look at Slapaho. He created an entire thread to brag about how "the man" made him change his name and compares it to being a mafia informant in the witness protection program.
