While wiki-walking through youtube today I ran across the "Mr Hooper is dead" segment from Sesame Street. At the end, Big Bird says "Goodbye, Mr Looper" and is corrected by Maria; "It's Mr Hooper, Big Bird!"

In the following comments section, people mention that Big Bird always got his name wrong.

Here's the thing: I disagree.

My memory tells me that, in fact, Big Bird didn't always do that. I recall that this came about after a particularly acrimonious argument between Big Bird and Mr Hooper concerning the "reality" of Mr Snuffleupagus, as Mr Hooper thought Big Bird should quit living a pointless fantasy vis-a-vis his "imaginary" friend.

I spent a couple of hours researching everything I could find concerning this and came up empty.

So, here's the question: Am I nuts, or is this a thing that occurred on the show?

Berenstein, Berenstain. The barriers in the multiverse are thin.

Well he gets it right now. Maybe Big Bird just had a thing against old white people?

Obviously racist; we need to bring back Little Bird.

According to the Sesame Street wiki, this was a thing:
Quote:
Their friendship was occasionally frustrated by Big Bird's frequent inability to correctly say the shopkeeper's name, often calling him Mr. Looper or similar rhyming variations. Still, Mr. Hooper had a great affection for Big Bird, even trusting him to open the store in episode 0198.
They even have a section for Big Bird's names:
Quote:
Big Bird's names for Mr. Hooper

Mr. Super (0008)
Mr. Cooper (0813)
Mr. Glooper (0810)
Mr. Looper (0158, 0813, 1839)
Mr. Pooper (0158, Getting Ready for School)
Mr. Duper
Mr. Cunningham - Big Bird's performer, Caroll Spinney, has mentioned that one day he came up with a new one: "Hello, Mr. Cunningham -- oh gee, I wasn't even close."

I don't really remember it myself. It sounds as though it wasn't an "every time" thing or something he always did (they only list eight or nine episodes) but he did it on a frequent basis just because Big Bird was being Big Bird.

Well, I bet the guy DID **** now and then.

The other day I was watching Suicide Kings for the first time in ages and the ending was different than I remembered. I'm pretty sure I was actually remembering an alternate ending as a feature on the DVD (I was streaming this time so I couldn't look) in which:
Walken and Leary are on the boat and confront the two lovebirds. Walken talks to the girl, tells the guy "You were right about her" and decides to let them live. Leary objects and says something like he'd rather shoot Walken himself then let those two idiots take off with $2mil of Walken's money. Walken gets back on his little boat and Leary, in exasperation, shoots the deck of the boat several times before leaving with Walken. The two kids are relieved but then notice that the boat is taking on water from the bullet holes.

In the film as released, Walken says "You were right about her", something about not stealing money and Leary executes them.

The weird thing is that I thought "I'll just go watch the alternate ending on Youtube" but it wasn't there. Or at least I didn't see it in my thirty seconds of looking. I'm still pretty confident the alternate ending exists but now I'm afraid to look further and test my convictions.

That must have been awful. Not as awful as making an episode out of the Armenian Genocide thread, but still.

Well, I imagine a show about the AG thread would be more like Troll 2.

Wonder if that's what happened to Natalie Wood, with her husband in the Denis Leary role.
