At my college I dressed up like a pirate and preached to students walking by. They seemed to enjoy learning about the Flying Spaghetti Monster more than being told they were burning in hell for the previous weekend, as the pro-Christ preacher on the other corner yelled at them.

I support peta. Happier, properly fed cows produce better milk and steaks.

I support proper treatment for animals, even ones we eat. But I would NEVER support PETA, because they are badsh*t crazy in a lot of their activities, and hypocritical in most of their actions. I remember reading that something like 90% of the dogs that PETA "saves" were actually just killed and dumped into the garbage by the organization.
Let me find a link... ah, here we go:

Quote:
The Center for Consumer Freedom, which represents the food industry, a frequent target of PETA campaigns, released data filed by PETA with the state of Virginia that shows PETA has killed more than 10,000 animals from 1998 to 2003. "In 2003, PETA euthanized over 85 percent of the animals it took in," said a press release from the lobby, "finding adoptive homes for just 14 percent. By comparison, the Norfolk (Va.) SPCA found adoptive homes for 73 percent of its animals and Virginia Beach SPCA adopted out 66 percent."

I really couldn't care less about the treatment of animals I'm not going to eat, or the ones I am going to eat as long as it doesn't make them taste bad.

Better to kill them then adopt them out to families that will treat them unfairly. Smiley: schooled

Then stop buying cheap corn-fed beef and get the stuff from grass-fed free range cattle. It's out there, you just have to look a little harder for it. Added bonus, less chance of e-coli infection from grass-fed ground beef, since the cow isn't being fed a diet that causes its normal intestinal e-coli colonies to overpopulate essentially gives it a permanent case of diarrhea, so you don't have to worry if you want your hamburger a little pink.

Mankind has been cruel to animals since we first discovered that they're tasty and nutritious and their fur keeps us warm.

I suspect that was sometime shortly after the split from the LCA of chimps, since they've gotten as far as ants and cannibalism.

Grind your own steak for hamburgers and you don't have to worry all that much either.

This is hilarious. I mean I don't think there is anyone who takes this group seriously anymore. Anyone else remember the "Cooking Mama" Thanksgiving stunt they pulled? The gaming company didn't even give a statement about it. They had "Cooking Mama" give the statement. If anyone hasn't played the game I highly recommend it if it's still up. The thing is a barrel of laughs.

Also, I completely agree that these "Unhappy Meals" will be 100+ bucks on ebay within a week.

I hate PETA, just as I hate other organisations that try to force their beliefs and lifestyles on others. It's fine that they don't like to eat meat and that they lvoe animals, but when they start trying to force everyone else to be the same as them, they lose any respect I can have for them.

Targeting children is especially terrible.

I liked how the vegetarian parts were much easier than the meat parts. I kept losing the first parts (and was scolded by a knife-weilding Mama) but sailed right through the tofu bits to praise and encouragement Smiley: laugh

PETA to target kids with disturbing "Unhappy Meals"

Activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will hand out "Unhappy Meals" to children at an Albany McDonald's restaurant today to protest alleged chicken abuse, according to a statement this morning by PETA.

PETA alleges that McDonald's allows its chicken suppliers to abuse the animals before they are slaughtered for food. The organization advocates "controlled-atmosphere killing," a method that promotes animal welfare.

Children who buy meals at the McDonald's at 391 Central Ave. today beginning at noon will encounter PETA staff, headed by an activist in a chicken costume.

The "Unhappy Meal" that PETA will give to children - a spoof of a Happy Meal - will include a "menacing, knife-wielding" Ronald McDonald cutout, a ketchup packet disguised as chicken blood, a plastic chicken covered in "blood" and a "McCruelty" t-shirt.

The statement indicates that PETA will target children so they will "join its campaign" to convince McDonald's to change slaughter methods.

PETA is hilariously messed up! I wonder if the activists would get sued by angry parents?

Edit: Oops, linkage

Edited, Aug 5th 2009 4:21pm by LockeColeMA

I wonder what PETA considers "too far", if it considers anything as "too far". Can't wait to see them sued into oblivion by outraged parents and society itself for mentally abusing children.
