Gas prices about to raiseFollow

I just heard from 3 different sources that gas prices in the country are about to increase ~30-40cents a gallon BEFORE THE MORNING (aka in the next couple of hours). Two of these sources were gas station clerks at different stations. If you are reading this, I'd considering filling up right about now.

Oil surges to record on Katrina

It is difficult to estimate how much havoc a hurricane will wreak
Oil prices have surged to a record as Hurricane Katrina strengthened to the most dangerous level and shut down crude production in the Gulf of Mexico.
Crude oil contracts jumped almost $5 to a high of $70.80, before falling back to trade at $69.93 in Singapore.

Concerns that supply will not meet demand have dogged the market, along with uncertainty about the political situation in key supplier nations.

There are fears that prices may now break the $100 a barrel mark.

Of course there is good news for North America

http://www.macleans.ca/topstories/business/article.jsp?content=20050613_107308_107308

Of course there is the ever looming threat of a trade war between Canada and the United States since the US is ignoring the legally binding ruling of the NAFTA trade council.

Also Hugo Chavez offering discount oil to impoverished communities in the United States with the condition that no middle men are involved making a profit.

I remember when you had to worry about the insurance cost on a Mustang when buying one, now it would be wether or not you can afford to fill it up. On a good note, all those yuppies that buy these huge SUV's that they have no need for at all are proably crying everytime they have to spend 60 dollars to fill up thier gas tanks now.

The day of the Hybrid cars are coming. Now only if they all did not have to be so damn ugly.

No the ppl that are crying are the fools with F-250's that run on unleaded gas, which is more than you'd think....

I'll supose you mean "Regular Unleaded" and not just unleaded. IIRC no cars need lead fuel. Some airplanes need Low Lead. As in 110LL (110 Octane, Low Lead). Not sure about boats.

Most people where I'm from who own an F-250 need it to haul **** around for work and such.

The real people crying are the big distribution based stores like wallmart. I'm sure they're loving the ~12% increase of shipping costs due to gas price increases.

Yeah and all the truck drivers that pay for gas out of pocket...That's gotta suck a 12% increase JESUS

You are not kidding. The forcast for our summer was to have an unnaturally warm summer in Ontario, and good weather right through to November. However they have also forcast that we are going to have a winter that is colder than usual. If the prediction is correct, it is going to be very VERY cold.

Yeah, the worst hurricane ever to hit the US right in the oil producing region, during the ongoing situation in the Middle East...things are getting out of control.

As to the Canadian oil article, I always thought sand/shale oil extraction wasn't efficient enough to use yet. Guess the technology is there after all.
