Hello everyone, saw Harry Potter 3 yesterday and have to say it was great and would be a great experience for anyone to see.
I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, Harry Potter has provided a great deal of "magic" in my life that I will never forget but for some others thats not the case.
I dont wanna go parade this around but I am a Christian, yes I curse and say nasty things and do nasty things but so does everyone else no matter who you are. So dont go calling me a hypocrit or anything I'm just stating this so you all dont think I dont know what I'm talking about.
But anyways why do SOME people and MOST christians hate Harry Potter, or other things, if you all remember when Pokemon was really big ( I was about 11 or 12 at the time) and reading how Christians were saying how Pokemon is the evil and Pokemon is the devil! Most of them said that because supposely some demonic women thought of the creatures and the creator of Pokemon used her idea to create the basis for it. Now I dont believe that bullcrap and doubt it is true but even if it is Pokemon represents fun and happiness, atleast the American version. I also read how some preacher got a sword, a sword! and stabbed through a stuffed Pikachu doll in front of the children of the church telling them how it was evil. What is up with that?!?! Come on dude its just a childrens cartoon!
So why do SOME christians hate Harry Potter? Because it has "magic" in it! OH NO! Ok now another "supposely" that J.K. Rowling got the idea of Harry Potter from copying off what a real life witch thought of and wrote down, Rowling supposely just copyied it and shaped into a childrens book form? Now I doubt this is true but if it is, have you actually read the book? Yes it has magic in it but its a childrens FICTION book, meaning make-believe! PRETEND! IMAGINATION! And through the whole book it tells of how Harry and his friends always do the right thing, care and stick up for each other and punish anything that is wrong or bad, teaches about friendship and love. Whats wrong with that?
When the 5th book came out they had this big burning of abunch of the 5th book in a massive bown fire because Harry Potter is evil! So lets all buy a brand new copie, indorsing the very same product we hate and burn abunch telling the world of how we disprove of Harry Potter and his magic! Yipee!
Now let me say in the Christian belief magic is considered a evil thing and practice of it in real life is wrong and I believe this to. But Harry is make believe and pretend so why is that bad? Come on did known of you ever pretend to be something else when you were little or were your lifes so smothered by your parents that imagination was banished from your thinking cabilities?
I would talk some more but I bet your all tired of my typing and I have to go to bed anyways. Goodnight.

I would say that Christians don't hate anything, but dislike certain things...
But seriously anything having to do with witchcraft is looked down upon. Something about "anything not from God or for God is against God"

I am Tape's signature. I don't think most christians hate Harry Potter. Heck, two of the biggest fans I know are Catholic. I think it's just one of those cases of the very loud minority making a stink because they think it has too much paganism and whatnot in it. I'm sure they don't like any movie with witchcraft in it, from Harry Potter to Macbeth.

I don't think it's so much having witchcraft in it as it is glorifying it.
They make it seem cool for kids to do magic and read books and call upon spirits and all that, I think that is what they don't like.
And Catholics have alot of different idea's then other 'Christians'

I remember a much bigger backlash against Dogma. Why do people boycott FICTIONAL WORKS OF COMEDY?

I liked Dogma alot, but also could see why the church would want to say something against it.

I am Tape's signature. Actually the problems isn't that Christians hate Harry Potter. It's that loud, very ignorant people, who also happen to claim to be Christians, hate Harry Potter.
People who have trouble dealing with the world in general often lean heavily on religion to shore up their lack of ability to cope. And it's much easier for them to label something as bad and the 'work of the devil' than it is for them to actually try to understand something or to cope with it.
Mind you, if Satan were to appear on Earth with the mythical red skin, cloven-hooved feet, tail, and horns sporting a pitchfork, these people would be considered allies. However, since that's probably not going to happen, they're just annoying at best and downright obstructive to society at worst.
The best way to deal with them is to tell them to shove off and go ****** themselves. They don't listen to reason and the only way to get any peace is to offend them just enough so they go away but not quite enough that they picket you.

It's not MOST it is some "Christians", as someone else stated above it are those that are on the far right side and take everything literally. These folks are not truly "right" they are terribly, terribly misguided IMHO.
I hate Harry Potter because I used to manage a Barnes & Noble. I got so sick of those little fuc'kers and their ***** mothers camping outside the doors on release dates.
Just remember it are those "little fuc'kers and their ***** mothers" that help pay your paycheck. If I owned a Barnes and Noble I'd be very pleased to have them camping outside.

My wife has all the books on CD read by some English guy. They're not bad, for kids books. Anytihng that gets kids to read is pretty much OK in my book.

What you have is the self righteous few in the bible belt espousing what their ill spirited pastors tell them they should think. I am a christian and I do believe people that practice witchcraft need help, however there is such a thing as fiction. Like anything else harry potter must be taken in perspective.

My comment was in regards to Harry Potter. There is no other series of books out there that people camp out for. Barnes & Noble did just fine for itself before Harry Potter, and they'll do just fine when Harry Potter is gone. Its not like Harry Potter is the only source of revenue B&N has.

Part of the problem is that some people are confusing the Harry Potter type of fantasy witchcraft with the real religion.
I've only read the first Harry Potter book and I don't remember any references to the religious or spiritual lives of any of the characters. Perhaps in the later books they get into more depth regarding the source of their magical powers.
