"I'm going to Disneyland!"

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/orl-bk-tigger040204,0,396560.story?coll=orl-home-headlines

"As the photo was being taken, [the victim] claims that Tigger moved his right hand up to her right breast and started massaging it several times," the incident report states. [The victim] became very embarrassed and ashamed of the incident and claims that she did not say anything to her mother until they left the park."

The wonderfull thing about Tiggers, is that Tiggers are wonderfull things!

They've been featured in a few animated movies! And now you can have them grab your boobies!

It's really a shame it wasn't the winnie the pooh character who assaulted the woman.

"Woman sexually assulted by Pooh" just has such a nice ring to it. Oh well.

Ha! I figured this would be some long rambling rant about something and was all ready to throw in the Disneyland line. Oh well.

That dude looked kinda like Steve Buscemi from my first passing glance. Ever see Trees Lounge?

Ok. But what kind of defense is this:

Quote:
In a charging affadavit filed in court, police wrote that Chartrand told them he had trouble remembering things, but was "very sorry for everything that had occurred," and hoped the victim would forgive him for what he had done.

That's pretty lame really. Although I don't suppose that the folks working the costumed characters at a Disney themepark are the brightest bulbs in the world, how hard would it have been to at least try to claim that maybe you couldn't tell where your hands were through the thick costume, or you were dizzy from the heat and didn't know you'd "inadvertantly" touched their breasts.

Sheesh. At least try to save yourself numbskull...

You know, there are people in a certain subculture who would LOVE to be felt up by Tigger.

Try doing a web search of "furry".

The trial continues

My favorite part is this:
The Tigger costume will be shown to jurors on Tuesday, and they will be allowed to try it on in the jury room during deliberations.
[...]
Kaufman said he expected jurors to handle the Tigger costume so they can see how difficult it would be to grope somebody inside the bulky outfit.

Before the trial started, a Disney lawyer had suggested that the orange Tigger costume be dyed black or white and its ears removed if it is introduced as evidence at the trial.

Disney seems more worried about people seeing a Tigger costume than handling the fact that one of their employees is molesting children on the job.

The costume, in a cardboard box by the judge's bench, was finally removed when defense attorney Jeffrey Kaufman Jr. pulled out the costume's head, bodysuit, tail and paws out the box to show Kraubetz. Kaufman stuck his arm in the orange and black-striped head and held it up to show how vision is limited in the costume before placing it back in the box.

Look at the two pictures they have of the guy here:

Striking contrast.

No, more worried about having Tigger assosiated with molestation. hence altering the costume so people don't tie the character together with the act.

Good idea from a sociological standpoint, actually, I'd have advised them to do something simmilar. I'd also ask that when argued in court the trademarked name was left out and all refrences were generic such as "the cartoon character costume" or whatever.

Brand identity is a big deal.

I hate this. I guess brand recognition/identity is part of what makes America great in the end though.

Maybe if everyone were truthful about things, I could get over my stigma with commercialization, advertising, etc.

As is though, pretty sure I hate it.

If people are going to associate Tigger with molestation, they'll do it from the copius news reports saying a guy in a Tigger costume felt up some girl. I seriously doubt the judge, jury and however many people are in the benches make up a significant portion of Disney's market share and they're the only ones who are going to see the costume, orange and intact or dyed and maimed.

I'm assuming the trial isn't going to be televised or anything.

You underestimate the effect of de-branding the costume in the process. Of course everyone will still know it's a Tigger costume, but it will have been altered so that it's not a "normal" Tigger costume. It becomes a tainted representation of a pure icon.

It matters.

Remember the Estate Tax? It wasn't untill it was re-branded the "Death Tax" that it could be attacked.

Same deal.

Eh, if you say so. I don't agree but I certainly don't have the inclination to start Googling marketing and sociology websites to pretend to make an argument.

I'm maintaining my stance that it's silly. So there.

It's Disney saying "Tigger wouldn't do this" by altering the costume.

You also don't want any pictures of jurors trying on the unaltered costume to leak out. You can see the damage there, I hope?

I don't, just the image of Tigger associated with molestation again or what?

I don't think it matters until an image appears on the upper right-hand side of the screen with a picture of Tigger and the caption "Tigger a molesting pedophile" appears on the news, or in some other major media outlet. The association of the caricature with the idea would be terribly negative.

Of course, Disney could make enough money suing the media conglomerate that they'd never have to make a movie again. But then I'd be sad, because there would be no chance of a new Beauty and the Beast.

No, because you've altered the costume.

I don't want to get into Sociological techspeak here, but the act of altering the costume changes the whole meme.

It's the same reason you'd require a satarist to alter the character slightly. The perception changes from assosiation with the brand to assosiation with the individual costume.
