To whomever reads these posts at the Square-Enix corporation:
Over the years, I have seen a lot of good ideas, and a few great ones, come through these forums only to see them ignored completely. It baffles me at first, since your corporation when to such trouble to seek out and form partnerships with different community websites. You even went to the trouble of having this forum made. And then, a revelation dawned on me.
The grind is all you care for.
It made it all make sense.
You introduce MMM, a fun, entertaining event that hooked quite a few people, then you summarily cripple the event by harshly reducing the output of marbles.
You add augments to the game, and bait us with these images of fabulously augmented items, then we need to spam the event for the slight chance of achieving that unreachable end result.
You leave certain valuable items to be found only on Kings and other 21-24 hour HNMs while never addressing their spawn times or the bots claiming them. That forces us to fight like madmen to claim these mobs and kill them relentlessly praying for their rare drop.
You allow all of the add-on content to be repeatable, but ignore the fact that a loss in a BCNM forces you to repeat the mindless item collection to gain access to the fight again.
You add more zones and try to encourage campaign participation, yet you leave the crippling fortification nerf in place, for fear that we may have an alternative way to gain experience points.
And all the while, we fill this forum with reasonable fixes for all these things. Despite our best efforts, they are ignored.
I mean, forget that you've wasted more time making new runes and new vouchers for MMM, since the nerf triples the amount of time it takes to earn enough for even the simplest additions. Forget that removing the fortifications nerf and adding a level restriction for joining campaign would stop people under a certain level from abusing Campaign for EXP. And heaven forbid we alter Kings, other HNMs or do anything else suggested by players.
At least not straight out, huh.
Because I remember a few years back hearing about Player-run events, and finally, you've added it! I mean, it's completely pointless now, since the desire for that died a long time ago. And, knowing your amazing company, you'd make it like having an in-game wedding: Something that sounds fun, interesting and a harmless diversion that winds up being horribly overcomplicated, badly implemented, and requiring the co-operation of a small army of helpers as well as the timing of some clandestine hostage rescue from a deadly enemy fortress.
And, finally, we come to what, I feel, is your shining achievement: The Bell Command.
I just had this feeling that this was like Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Your customers are angry over poor service, lack of warning and explanation of major policy changes, and are horribly disappointed that you've begun selling items contained in flimsy content wrappers. But then that revelation I had shone a new light on everything.
The forums are an extension of grinding.
See, we asked for player run events years ago, and finally you listened and made it happen. So, perhaps the topic of today will be the new fix of tomorrow. So really, we only need to wait several years for you to make MMM, Campaign, HNMs and what not work like they were supposed to.
So, in the meantime, I'd like to turn back to that shining achievement of the Bell command. Really, this is pure genius. Giving us something no one asked for, and something that has no real purpose.
However, it does make for great marketing.
Companies are always bellowing about the "bells and whistles" of their products. Well, you have the chance to show them up. Instead of talking about proverbial bells and whistles, you can have the real thing!
Already we have pointless bells that no one really has bothered with due the issues they have (the delay between ringing, and the fact that wasting inventory space for a set of bells serves no purpose). Let's add another, equally useless noisemaker to have a filter for! And then, you can package it and sell it! FFXI: Now with REAL Bells and Whistles!
