By the way, if it's the same account doing the spamming, you don't really have to report every single thread. when we ban them they all go away, and then I Have to un report each thread from the alert queue.

This is the same guy that keeps spamming all the threads on fake ID's, UK based SEO and simialr. He has a huge pile of India based IP addresses to pull from, and he's on a schedule where usually all the admins are sleeping when he spams us. All the ISP's I've tried communicating with so far speak hindu, the FBI hasn't done anything related to the fake ID reports we;ve sent them so far, and he's not relying on prestaged accounts so I can't pre-ban them. I may see if we can extend some of the restrictions we have on new accounts generated out of existing known spammer regions. Possibly even a captcha for new account creation out of India or something along those lines. I dunno. The foriegn ones are the most difficult to kill offf permanently.

Wowhead has call girl and kitchen spam every single day. We get about 10+ accounts and depending on who is around they can mange to post quite a few threads before being squashed. Thankfully a fairly new tool was introduced that makes it so once 5 people have reported the thread as spam it'll temporarily hide the content (and disable their posting privileges) until we can review it.

I take it from this thread that it doesn't happen as frequently here?

No, we get hit by huge amounts of spam every day. Most of it gets killed pretty quickly since all of the admins see the report notification. Thread spammers are more rare, but this one is particularly persistent. We get around 50-60 thread spams per day spread across the whole forum, probably another couple hundred in topic spam on a good day. Those are less visibly disruptive once we kill them though, so people don't notice them as often. The karma system and the report system actually work really well to minimize the spammer disruption, and the somewhat unique design of the forum limits the number of spammers we get to a degree. It's still a very post rich environment even if it isn't as active as it once was overall, so spammers see it as worth the effort to write a custom spam script apparently. We should feel special I guess.

On an average day between 5 and 25 accounts get banned by various admins over the course of a day.

I think it's kind of sad. I fail to see, at least in Wowhead's case, how anyone thinks spamming custom kitchen ads everyday on a gaming fan site is at all productive. Especially now when they aren't up nearly as long as before. We thought that with our new ban hammer tool they'd eventually stop bothering but unfortunately that hasn't been the case. We've only just been able to lessen their impact.
