One poll to rule them allFollow

So what's the best way to make a forum poll?

Do you keep it simple, yes no questions, and pray no one wants to answer "maybe"? Do you add in lots of options for everyone's flavor? Or does it just get pointless when there are 20 different responses? Are there times not to add a poll? Do you even bother to? Does the poll even need to be on the same topic as the original post? Should there always be 4 choices? Obviously that's the forum default so it's correct; yes? no? maybe?

What if you don't like polls? Do you ignore them? Complain? Give random answers from all your sock-puppets until the results are meaningless? Does everyone poll need an "other" option? Or do we simply ignore those special snowflakes who can't fit into a normal category? Is there a reason for all the questions? Why can't you make a decision on your own?

What say you?

This thread will be derailed into a discussion about...
beer:4 (44.4%)
beer:0 (0.0%)
beer:5 (55.6%)
beer:0 (%)
Total:9

I usually put in a couple responses and tell people to suck it up and pick one. I don't care about your special snowflake scenario that's "Sorta A but also a little B but not too much B..." etc. Sack up and click a button.

This poll is lacking an "all of the above" option. I want beer, bacon and boobies!

It depends. If you want a more scientific accurate poll, you can't add any "fun" options. Also the "Other, please explain" option seems to skew things sometimes. I on the other hand tend to like to include multiple random options for no apperent reason.

Rule 1 is not to ask the pollsters for polling advice - skew much?

Maybe.
Quote:
Do you add in lots of options for everyone's flavor?
Only organic flavors.
Quote:

I was under the assumption it was all pointless.
Quote:
Are there times not to add a poll?
When someone dies.
Quote:
Do you even bother to?
I do, but I'm not telling where.
Quote:
Does the poll even need to be on the same topic as the original post?
No but it should be in the same thread.
Quote:

Is pluto a planet or just a big rock. What's fact one day is fiction on another.
Quote:

The forum is always correct, if not the whole thing implodes.

I really miss the ability to add secondary polls to a thread with different options.

true. I voted for beer, as I really like beer, and am planning a trip to San Diego, where I will import a whole bunch of interesting bottles. What should I get?

All the beer.

But really between Stone, Alpine, Port Brewing, Ballast Point, Green Flash, Alesmith and all the other great breweries in California it's damn hard to go wrong. My priorities would probably be barrel aged Speedway stout by Alesmith, Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA and Stone's Enjoy By. Anything by Firestone Walker or Russian River would be cool too.

I'm going to assume you're talking about an Alpine different from Alpine I get here, cause that **** is nasty, unless drank almost near freezing temperatures.
