Basically, its a button that lets me send a given nuked thread to "spammer hell" or forum 999, but without leaving the "moved thread" residue that normally results from a move. The benefit is that the nuked posts don't take up any of the default 50 posts per page slots, which is why in some forums recently it's looked like there were only 8 or 9 threads, because there really were that many nuked spam posts. Someone really, really wanted to sell you guys fake ID's and stolen credit card numbers.

666 was already taken at the time it was made. You can't see that one anymore on account of the whole "all unofficial forums don't allow or display posts anymore to prevent spamming to 10k fix"

if I remember right someone was using it as a makeshift journal. it might have been youshutup. I can't see whats in it either anymore, which creats issues from time to time.

It's probably safer to just disable all unofficial forums like they have. Remember =sanctuary?
From a coding perspective, I don't know how the site works, so I don't know if it's possible to just make it so that any given forum isn't just disabled, but flat out doesn't exist until it is created and assigned a number. That seems a simpler solution, though.

It's a relational database. Each post you make has a bunch of data that goes into a very large table as a row. That post includes the text and title of the post, but it also includes the forum ID, the thread ID (or message ID , the mid= part) and the post ID itself, which is usually shown as p=1. Going to a forum and pressing "post something" creates a row in the database with that forum= id. Posting in forums that aren't on the currently allowed list is not enabled anymore, but it was at one time, so to reuse an existing ID, we have to either move all the old posts out of it, or pick one that hasn't been used. if you just flat out delete the rows in a relational database, bad, catestrophic things happen to your database usually, so we avoid that if at all possible.

You guys need more active topic starters. There are enough OOT repliers to topics, but you don't end up with enough new topics to sustain the gestalt or attract new posters or bring back old lurkers. It may be the only "fix" is to merge the forums with Asylum to get enough people concentrated, but at this point Asylum doesn't also need that, since they have juuust enough people in there to keep it going. I'm hopeing a few of the new flood of ffxivers wanders in here and takes up residence. We'll see. Admins don't tend to work as topic starters, since it starts looking like we're taking over a forum, and it can't just be one or two others either. The trick isn't even really to post particularily good topics. They just have to be intriguing. People will post, it ups their post count, and if they dislike a topic they'll mold it to whatever they want. getting that starter in the first place is the tricky part, since only a fraction of forum posters start new topics regularily.
