DIE, NVIDIA, DIE!!!!! Six more weeks... just six more weeks and I can use my shiny new desktop instead of this blue screened monstrosity...

I won't bother explaining. Extensive Googling has shown me that, after three years without a solution, enough breath has been wasted on this issue.

Well, I guess it has something to do with Nvidia. What it is, is up to Doug to let us in on. Take your meds and then let us know.

I've always had reasonably good luck with Nvidia cards. Same as any other graphics card, really; if you get past the install and it fires up and works, you're good to go.

What's the big deal about AIDs? Doug's had it for over 2 years now and he's still alive. Not working as intended.

Never really had a problem with Nvidia cards. ATI cards on the other hand, have screwed me over enough that I've sworn them off for good. That was back before AMD bought them out, so they might have improved, but I'd rather not take the chance.

My current card is Nvidia and it's humming along like a champ. My last 2 were ATI, and they both overheated and fried on me (bad fans, dammit). Not saying I'll never get another ATI, but this year, Nvidia is my fren.

This statement is very pre-5870 which is the best video card on the market. Currently ATI's 5870 and 5970 are the only two graphics cards that are fully Direct X 11 compatible and destroy Nvidia for benchmarks.

In a nutshell that about covers it. There's also two Facebook groups dedicated to this BSOD error message. I've been scouring google for answers but I see posts that go back as far as 2007 and there still isn't an answer I can find. A lot of people have quick fix ideas, but they don't stick for long at all. Update drivers? Doesn't work. Reinstall the OS? Doesn't work. This is an issue with NVIDIA cards from 7000-9000 series and a few of their other ones.

Why post this? The same reason you can post in response. Because I can.

I've read up on this or a similar error while trouble shooting for a friend. It's not actually a Nvidia error, but a Windows Vista / Windows 7 error. It can happen on ATI cards too. It has something to do with the OS detecting a problem with the video card, like an overheat, and resetting the video drivers instead of blue-screening the whole computer. The friend (on Windows 7) was able to get the error to stop just by using system restore, but this doesn't work for everyone. No one seems to know a permanent fix for this unfortunately.

Possible PEBCAK indeed.

If the error is OS related, and you've done the normal driver ********* formatting is usually an easy cop-out. If it's the video cards problem, put it in the oven!

I find it kinda funny that "Doug has AIDS" is the only thing my roommates remember about Allakhazam. If I mention any of the shenanigans you folks talk about, nothing, but if I mention the name Doug, first thing one of my roommates will inevitably say "The guy with AIDS?"
