Now I forgot to get the author's name which I will get later. Now what is this book about? Well it's not really a story but before I go on explaining what it is how about I just get in with the question?
The Story: A jewish prisoner walks down with his friends of survivors and sees a cemetary with **** graves. On each grave there are sun flowers and the jewish prisoner who's name is Simon envy's the fact that they get sun shine while he worries that he will be in a mass grave with no light. He and his friends go to a hospital and begin to unload supplies. A group of injured ***** sit around and one stands up and shout at the Jewish prisoners. However many of the ***** shake their heads. Suddenly a nurse asks Simon to follow her. Simon follows her and skipping the wait he finnaly meets a **** covered in bandages (I believe he was burned but I'm not sure) head to toe I believe. The man's name is Karl and he tells Simon that he needed to tell his story to a Jewish. Any Jew will be fine. He tells his story how he was in hitler youth and brain washed and how one experience where he was to order his men to shoot the windows and throw grendades. He did. He watched as a building went up in flames and famillys jumped out some on fire. However one that catches his eyes the most is a father holding his son tightly as the flames come closer and finnaly they jump. Now Karl is about to die and he wants one thing. Forgivness. He wants forgivness because he wants to die peacefully. However Simon silently leaves the room. He talks to his Jewish friends and they tell him Joyfully that he did the right thing and how they will of liked to be there. Later the same nurse calls Simon and asks him to have a few objects from Karl that he wanted Simon to have. Simon refuses and tells her to give it to his mother. Eventually Simon survives (Althrough his friends don't) and after he is liberated and like very few people he finds his wife and life looks better as he finds a job and gets a house. However he realizes he's in Karl's birth town. He finds his mother's house which is almost ruble and he is greeted by a frail old woman. The woman talks to Simon about her son proudly telling Simon how he was a nice boy with a bright smile. Simon had the intentions of breaking the truth to her about her son's actions but he decided he did not want to hurt the alone widow anymore. To this day he is haunted by his actions and wonders if he did the right thing.
What will you have done? In this book there's a lot of letters that tell the author what they would of done. My question is what will you have done? Hopefully I summarized the short story as accurate and unbiased as possible.
