Hey all. I'm trying to build a new computer using a next-gen video card (GeForce 6800). None of my existing computers had an available AGP slot so I've had to purchase a new motherboard (...and processor, and power supply, and tower, etc. I don't look forward to the credit card bill.) Well, I've got it all hooked up now and can't seem to get it to work. It's weird, I turned it on and nothing happened but while troubleshooting I noticed that if I unplugged the main power supply to the motherboard and then plugged it back in, all the LEDs and fans kick on for a second. My first impression is that there is a short in the system, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced a similar problem before, and if so, what the remedy was. Any help would be appreciated.
AMD Athlon 3500 64-bit Processor
K8 Motherboard for a 939 socket
500-Watt Power Supply in an ATX Form Tower
BFG nVidia GeForce 6800-GT 256 MB Video Card
Assorted Drives and Hard Disks that are pretty irrelevant to the issue
I'm gonna post this on a couple of different forums to broaden my chances of finding someone who knows the answer before I gotta pay someone to keep me from throwing this sucker out the window.
