My computer has the worm and is unuseable now.
I can't post here or play the FFXI anymore.
I have to wait til its fixed for $100 before I can start again.
Norton Antivirus, McAffee nothing caught that new virus and won't get ride of it. shuts down the computer 40 seconds after connected to the internet.
The virus was sent to me from my allakhazam email address.
beware of any emails you are getting from yours. unlist your address's and don't even accept allakhazam email.

I'm posting this from work computer to warn all of you.
this is very aggrivating to me cause now i have to wait 2 weeks to get it fixed.
Virus makers should be shot.

Your donating $100 to buy beer for someone that's going to download a virus extractor and patch from Microsoft and spend about 45 seconds working on your machine.

since i don't have another computer to download it myself I don't know what other choice I have. this computer is on a network that prevents downloading anything just surfing is allowed.

LoL, its called safemode with networking.

or worst case, just format reinstall that will always get rid of the virus.

After you get your computer up and running make sure you get all of the latest security patches from microsoft. Make sure you have your firewall portection turned on as well (XP). It is in Local Area network properties, under the advanced tab. Then read and follow this, most virus's can be prevented just by having your computer up to date.

Additional info for you.

formatting won't fix a worm virus the worm remains in your root and bootup files. all that is formatted is the hard disk files that are listed as normal files. to do a complete format and erase everything you will need to reinstall your floppy and cd rom drivers to run setup for windows and dos just to be able to use the computer. thats looking at 2-3 months to restore the computer back to factory defaults not to mention the programs and files I had in it in the first place. that means I'm spending $100 for 2 weeks to save 3 months of headache.

LoL, you really dont know anything about computers if you belive that.

a full format will blow the entire HD away, not just the file system. that includes the MBR (master boot record)

fyi, no M$ system has root files as there is no such thing as root in M$. root = *nix lowest (or highest depending on how you want to read the tree) level in the tree. nothing can be deeper into the system then root in a *nix system.

so put in your winXP CD, fire it up and do a full install, including format (not quick) NTFS and your virus/worm will be gone. nothing to be left behind.

if you really dont trust, it then pop in a win98SE startup disk with fdisk on it and blow away the partitions on your HD, then recreat them. this makes a fresh MBR in addition to other partion table information on the HD.

after fdisk you can always format c: /s/u

IIRC that is the proper dos command to format the HD as a system drive and unconditional. in other words clean everything off the HD without exceptions. make it all go poof bye bye.

how old is this system you are working on? an 8088? since win3.1 days you have NOT, i repeat NOT had to do that to clean any HD, or install any M$ OS. that is unless you are using legacy hardware. now if you are running win95a, you might still have some legacy hardware that is old enough to have to deal with that BS, but if you are running anything newer then 7 years old you will not have that problem.

You said month instead of hours there. I could probably re-create your system starting with a pile of sand in three months.

I have an HP laptop...
nuff said.
the thing has XP and had norton antivirus running with April 20th as the latest update.
When i scan it finds the virus but can't delete it.
I tried 3 different removal programs and tools and none worked.
i have over 800 mp3 files 700 picture files and 8 games in that laptop not to mention other stuff that would take that 3 months to put back in to that laptop.
the basics factory default in the system isn't just windows XP there are 19 other programs that took hours to install in the first place. 3 of them I had to run while i slept over night, especially downloading the online update, so it would take quite a while to reinstall everything. the windows update alone takes a week of downloading.

Gees smash don't you know anything? Worms are physical worms that live inside the case of your computer that travel in as eggs over a phone line. They suck on power cords and make the hamster running your processor sick. All a Format would do is remove all the goat **** from a computer.

I think you should pay the $100 to get it fixed, call it a stupid tax.

I have a 26k internet connection. all the updates are on the internet. some are over 120MB for one program.
If i format i know it will take months to get my computer where it was. Don't say get a faster connection cause I live in Tennessee and you can't get a faster connection unless in live in a major city and then you pay $60 for the fast speed connection but your paying the city taxes (almost triple normal taxes) and i'm not rich. I can't move cause I need 3 things that I don't have time, money, and a place to move to. I'm in the military active duty atm and they won't let me move anyways. Any way you look at it its just cheaper for me to pay the $100 instead of shelling out the money to move, time to reinstall, or buying faster internet. the time i would take to reinstall and update is costing me money from game fees and online cost since i'm not using them (giving away the money to my internet company and gaming companies) so the $100 is more of a smart tax because i'm not waisting the time for the money.

I would probably have clawed my face off waiting for 1 mp3 to download with a "26k connection", don't want to think about what I'd do downloading 800.

Wehn the place I work for stupidly buys laptops without consulting me... They always come with GBs of the most idiotic and pointless programs I've seen... alot of my work goes into getting rid of those *****... unless I decide to blow it away from scatch... you sure you need half of the crap on there?

It is unfortunate that this happened on a laptop, they are more of a pain to work on... otherwise I'd say pop out the Hard Drive and tried to copoy waht you can to a freshly setup one.. at least to save your data...

IF you ARE able to still boot into any kind of mode.. don't give up yet.... I read somwherethat there are removal programs.... so if you really value your time and money.... I'm sure you know Someone...or Somewhere that you could go to download it.. Library? and geek friends?... there must be a way.

and At least get a 56K.. they're like $20... well maybe a Bit more for a laptop.. but not much..

Get a Wi-Fi card and go to freakin Starbucks. Would still cost you less than the $100.

hear that.

ok so your OUT OF DATE virus scanner is finding it, but does not have a fix. still no problem you know what the file name is.

serch for it, and delete it, then turn off System Restore on ALL HARD DRIVES.

your virus scanner should also have the registry key's that it cant get to. run regedit32 and clean that out too, then reboot the system.

you should be better off and be able to access the web to get an update to your virus scanner, then also a patch to protect your system.

also as for being Milliatary, dont the base libraries now have internet connections with highspeed? ie: on a LAN (RJ45 or standard network cable?), if not pay a few bucks for an hours use at copymax, or some other cyber location.

then you not only save $, but learn how to protect your self from further attacks, and learn how to fix it when things go FUBAR.
