Bard complaining (the fun ones :)Follow

So... the purpose of this thread is to create a place for us bards to gripe about things that aren't really a big deal, but are fun to complain about. Bring your funny stories, your >.< *doh!* moments, things like that. I.e. I'm bored at work and looking for bardly comraderie.

My complaint is my static whm. He's a great guy, and a very good whm. However, the guy can't stand away from the pt for the life of him. We'll be in a long tunnel with nothing behind us. Where does he stand? Between the melee's and the wall. We'll be in a big open room with a wall to our backs. Where does he stand? *Again* between the melees and the wall. Do I talk to him about it? Yes. Will I talk to him about it again? Yes. Will he listen? Probably not. :) Sorry Cam, but it's true.

We have a Pld in our static too. I don't even try to get him to stand in place for ballad. How can I? The whm is running all over everywhere!

I guess my second complaint is that, despite how much I love this job, I'm dissapointed how often we get stuff leveling. I'm Elvaan, so I've been using most of my RSE since low 30's. Now I'm fifty, and soon I will finally get some new armor pieces. That's what... 20+ levels of the same stuff?

And songs are the same way. I don't have a single carol. I know I should get them, if only because they might (in some strange and incredibly rare circumstance) be useful, but... 39-51 with only one, maybe two useful songs in between is just lame.

What about everyone else. What are your humorous pet peeves about being a bard?

Mithra RSE 27/29/31/33 - 50+... yeah biggest pet peeve there... seems to attract unwanted attention by male taru -.-.

Oh, and the fact i'm never going to sell my damn 400k pants... ever ;.;.

Finally, when our ls melees complain about too many macros... **** you guys, I have over 30 I use on a regular and semi-regular basis, that isn't including status cures (I jump to window for that) and curaga. >.>

Then they all complain that they are poor as ****... and they eat sushi at lvl 10 >.>.

Yeah... things like that. <.<

I hate hills.... seems like they mess with song distance somehow because when I stand on one and start buffing, it just gets screwed up and only hits myself. (damn valley of sorrows >.< )

The fact that I'm lvl 75 and scared to death to take on a lot of too weaks.

That everyone you've ever met remembers you from like that party in the dunes 8 months ago, and you don't have a clue who they are.

This has nothing to do with bard, but stairs, the Taru's arch nemesis. I swear I can't make it up a flight of stairs without getting hung up atleast 5 times.

The Ordelles stairs are the worst twig :x.
Also, I dislike seeing melee type out "Dispel" eight times when a crab uses metallic shell, just to use finale and realize the melee took off his stoneskin in three shots ;x

Dooombringer: Yay I thought I was the only one who had hill troubles! I can't get a song in the right place on hills it seems.

I hate whms who insist on making sure my HP is full no matter what. Its a waste of MP (thank you auto-regen), and I'm a regular Minstrel's Ring user. They usually back off when I tell them that if I can't have my latent effect it will take me longer to get their Ballad.

I'm rather not fond of the fact that we are pretty useless on quests and stuff like that. I love to help out my LS members, but frankly I'm using up valuable party space. We rawk the hous all night long in XP parties, but when it comes to quests/missions we kinda suck.

well here is my story last night.

I was in a party of 6 with the following setup...

nin, thf, drg, rdm, brd, and blm.

we are lving in Dessert and killing beetles mob.

Typically me as brd, i go sing att and acc song on the melee.

Then i cast ice weaken on mob, then sonic song and this slow song. then i quickly run back to the mage, cast ballad, then int song on blm and mind song on healer. THen i will help the healer heal ppl, and dispel the mob if he does anything that require dispel.

Well this mention work great 99% of my pt experience as brd. But the problem is that when link occur.

in a middle of killing a beetles, a beetles spawn. I was doing my normal song order, but...the beetles is spawn (physical visiable on my screen and a link party message together) when i in a middle of casting ballad.

First during that moment, i have 2 choice, one is interupped ballad and quick cast sleep.

But my cast on ballad is 60% already... so even i interupped, it don't make much different, coz it still need abit of time interupped it.

So i decide cast sleep after ballad.

by the time i cast sleep nin die. (in this point u may ask me why only me cast sleep, why blm don't cast sleep as well) The blm have been dc, but body is physical there, but sooner it disappear in the middle of battle. rdm have full mp, but no idea what she is doing, all i see is she just stand there.

Now this is what happen to me. But at the end of battle where we all die, i look back the chat order...

It say:

Link...
Cast Sonic song
Sleep it
Cast Slow song
Brd Cast cure on nin
Cast Ballard
Cast Sleep

the message does say that, so it is my fault from looking into the message box. But during the battle, i am 100% sure it is not in that order.

This is what i see on my message box and physical display on my screen.

When i cast Sonic and Slow song, i was casting right next the mob we are battleing off, there is only 1 beetles only. (i was turning 360 degree clockwise on camera angle around myself while i was casting, to ensure there is no link pop) When i run back to the mages, who are physical there, but actually been dc... i was doing cure on nin, coz i see her have yellow hp and no one cure. I was doing cure spell, facing the mob we lving off from the mage side's view. (during this time, again only 1 beetles)

By the time i in the middle of i cast ballad (at 60%), my screen appear another beetles next to the nin, and my party chat message have 2 message appear saying link, sleep it. So i quicky cast sleep after ballad.

But from what i look back the chat message, it is complete different to what i see in my screen. (I have good vision, no glasses wear and i'm in good health, no thing wrong with my eye, in a big bright room, with lots of lights)

This make me feel weire, and i kind of upsad about it, coz it look like i am doing bad on the job. >_<

My CHR is 58+41, a lot but very helpful. (i'm hume Btw) and we were lvling in Kuftal tunnel, under the main room near a lake fighting raptors. The pt was really a good one, second to a blm pt that ive been in. Setup was Nin, blm, blm, brd thf, rdm. We were getting chain 7-8 for 350xp a shot, very nice pt ^^ well anyways it started getting late (4:30 AM for most of us in EST) and the pt was starting to get a little tired in their actions and the thf started getting agro almost every pull, both blms couldnt sleep it, but me, the good ole Brd, DID and wouldnt yu know it, sence the blm's couldnt sleep it, WE HAD TO ESCAPE!
we had to escape over 7 times by the end of the pt >.< but i remained quite and jus walked back to the camp..again...and again....and again....until..
the thf pulls and gets agro, i told them not to escape, i could handle the sleeping. they said ok and went back to nuking. they killed the raptor before the other one woke up, then preceded to slaughter the one who was sleeping. ^^ BRD POWER!

then we got really really smart... thf agroed 5 raptors, i slept them all in one shot, kept them sleeping and we killed them all for chain 9 ^^ it was amazing and i really had a good time. So the moral of this story, never distrust the power of a brd's sleeping ability ^^ cuz we can become Gods.

I don't really agree with this, it's partially true but not completely.
Most jobs can use the same tactics they would use in an XP party (with the exception of RDM who should not be casting phalanx+stoneskin+blink+en-* every time it falls in XP) to help out friends.
Just change your playstyle up a bit and you wont have a problem.
I pretty much solo'd the cap items for a couple of LS mates (THF/MNK and WHM/BLM, granted the WHM was doing status cures and enfeebs but other than RegenII didn't need to heal me) over the past couple days.
I just went is as BRD/NIN, dropped some of my CHR gear (noble's ribbon, flower necklace, one loyalty ring) in favor of some +eva/+enmity gear (emp. hairpin, spirit torque, mermaid's ring)
I wore my full AF (minus the hat), grabbed a pair of Cermet's, ate some Sole Sushi, stacked Marches, and went to town, getting in a 300% Spirit's Within every two mobs, and barely getting hit
Granted I didn't try the bombs (they already had that item from another party), but liches and exo's were easy.
As for missions, many of them are alliance-ready, which we excel in (I had Rank 10 @ 55 thanks to some friends that wanted a ballad-*****) and the rest, worst case scenario, we're an MP battery for the mages and a Sniper's ring for the melees.

well, different people have different way to play. Normally i find the more u speak, the more problem created.

Different ppl have different options and things. U can say one thing, if the other party member don't listen, its fair enough, coz he/she have the right not to listen. So don't feel upsad, if someone is tell u to do that, if u disagree what he/she say.

Best way to find out what is right or wrong, is just do research yourself, find proof, fact that support it. Then try it out your self and see what style of method work best to you.

For example, my bro and i have different standard on forming party. My bro always angry say to me, i will always only invite ppl with good sub job, rank5 or above. But i complete disagree with what he say.

He say lots of low rank don't play their job well. I told him, everyone have been low rank before, it matter of fact is that they will learn while they play the game. Then he just tell me that he is here to lv, not to teach. I told him that, xp or lv up is part of the reward, getting to know ppl and help other ppl is another. xp isn't really everything.

Stop sucking :p

As Alexis said, we can do our "usual" thing just fine. All the melee fight to get into the Bard party, and the mages complain because I side with the melee (RDMs can refresh; no one else can buff melee like us). I normally end up with some sort of mix; for non-exp, I often swap one Moon Ring for an Electrum and play Ballad2+Madrigal on everyone (unless people line up for fights, which does happen). Also keep in mind that for any mission/quest involving undead, we can sleep them while no one else can.

The other thing you can do is to be a more useful player. Be the one with the in-game map, and the one who has a marked-up map right next to them. Be the one who has read the guide and tells everyone else where to go, how to prepare, what to look out for, etc. Be good at stealth. Be the one with the Echo Drops (then cry when no one else has them).

This will make you infinitely more useful than Mr. Uber Damage, who could have killed the target in 3 hits but made the mission twice as long due to being lost, confused, silenced, and killed by that AoE you tried to warn them about. ^^

(True, this stuff isn't unique to being a Bard, although we do usually have Sneak/Invis hanging around. But, sad as it is, it will make you really stand apart from the crowd.)

Edit: Oh, and Alexis, if you ever go up against skeletons again, you might want to see how your staff fares. I was fighting pirates on the ship, and my Light Staff (skill < 100) was destroying them compared to my Cermet Sword (skill 147) or Bone Knife+1 (skill 167). Yes, I know my skills are underleveled; I'm too busy being useful on missions and quests.

My complaint is a version of the timeless "They won't listen to me!". It's not when they flat out ignore me, they just won't get the right songs. What really bugs me is when ha;f the party ignores me, while the other half is trying hard to position themselves correctly.
I.E.
Me - After SATA the party should setup like this..
Me - Mages - PLD - mob - Melee, OK?
Party - OK
During battle I've had one of any number of things happen.
A. PLD lines up on the wrong side of the mob, and then asks, "Can I get Ballad too?"
B. First voker lines up in the wrong position throwing the alignment off.
C. Melees refuse to move to the back of the mob.
And my favorite -
D. Mages stand too close and usually next to a wall.

I also don't appreciate the DRK that asks for Ballad during battle, but proceeds to only cast Stun only when the BLM gets hate from MB, ignoring his Absorb spells.

Last, but not least....
PC's who constantly tell me to sing something that I am either already singing, while I am singing something, or that I just cast. My favorite, "I need Ballad!" when they already have it!

Thanks for the thread, I feel better having gotten all that off my chest!

I will definitely have to try that, I need to skillup my staff anyways, and a couple more LS people still need papy. Does anyone know if DWII (nin25, -10% delay) comes into effect when swinging a two-handed weapon? That would be awesome if it did. If not I still need the utsusemi. Double-March would work well enough.

As long as your String, Wind, and Singing are capped its all good.
I only recently got Sword up to 181, and my Dagger, Club, and Staff are all still around or slightly above 100.

Aw man... it pains me to see bards with dagger at 100. I worked my butt off to get it up to 125 for cyclone. I don't have a lot of seals for BCNM'ing, so farming is my main option for making money. I just hit 50, that level where suddenly I've got a whole crap load of equipment to buy within the next few. Light staff, earth staff, Jesters +1, Blade Madrical, Justacourps +1...

It's the most money I've had to spend for bard, ever. *sigh*

OH, so there's my next bard grumble. I know we're one of the cheapest jobs to play... but STILL. We're just about the crappiest soloers out there. I'm level 50 and I can't farm Pashow or Jugner because it takes too long for me to kill the mobs.

If you've got ninja leveled, try subbing that for farming. It's pretty effective, being able to debuff with both ninja powders and bard songs plus madrigal, valor, paeon, etc, etc.

When mages like hanging out with melees more than other mages (and vice versa). We need more job segregation down here >_< I just end up Ballading and Madrigaling the huge clump of "PT" if they refuse to listen after the 5th time. And they don't seem to notice/care :P

Wow, this is kinda sad but also somewhat true. People must really like BRD since people would say 'omg fui!' and I'd be like 'hi^^' and have to think hard which PT s/he was in. I do take my job very seriously and m/b ppl that remember me notice. Either that or only the thought {Bard} is going through their mind.

Real pet peeve:
Stupid Mages; you know the ones I mean.... the ones who bought their character on eBay and want to show off how uber they are and have 4 line macros and don't use the auto-translator for anything and can't hit an MB after 5 times of being told WHAT SPELL TO USE! AAAAAAHHHH!!! (not that they are stupid because they are mages; they would be retarded no matter what class they are playing....)

Fake pet peeves:
When the Mithra cheering squad is late for rehearsal.
When the party leader sees all the skirts leaving your Mog House, thus ruining your tried and tested excuse of 'I was getting a new Song.'
When Moogle gets a really really bad hand at Poker and leaves you Rock Salt in the flowerpots instead of the Ores you were betting on.
When you run out of Cookies at just the wrong moment and still have Selbina Milk left over.
When the new Mithra Paladin decides she's not going to 'just fall' for your 'cheesy pickup lines' and you have to break out the Mithra trap.
When the new Elvaan Paladin decides he's not interested in your 'alternative suggestions' and maintains his interest in the Mithra cheering squad in preference to your Bardic appeal and you have to prove that not only are you and the cheering squad an inseparable package, that together you are an irresistible package.
When people question your rock star lifestyle and morals - I'm a Bard for a reason, baby, and you don't really think that's Tea I'm drinking all day, do you?
The price of the Monster Signa.... and the Mary's Horn.... Do you know how many concerts that is?
Okay, this has gone far enough... I stop now.... ^_^
