I'm thinking about starting bst for a few reasons

-beastman seals, and other farming, making money
-new update I won't go through pre update suckage

But I noticed this, mithra got log chr, am I doomed? I know all races can supposedly do all jobs, but I've always secretly frowned upon taru wars, mnks ect. even if I shouldn't.

You'll be fine. There is an abundance of CHR gear.

Its still going to be tough. Invites will still be slow, especially when you hit 70+. Your still going to be a dd.

Soloing also will still be tough.

If your still ok with it being as tough as before (Believe me it will be) then your ready to play the job.

But don't choose this job since you think it will be easy...it honestly will be the hardest thing you personally ever do in ffxi, hands down unless you solo gods or something on rdm/nin or what have you.

Yes, its that hard, and that wont change with the stuff they put in the update.

Honestly I'm not trying to discourage you from the job per say, as to save you gil if you think its going to be very much if any easier from last time you tried it.

But who knows? you make like it better this time around?
Also, race matters very little in terms of charm, just add an extra piece of +chr gear (which is dirt cheap) into your charm macro.
easy breezy to fix that at least :P

<-- Mithra BST 75 ^^

You'll be fine...don't worry too much about the CHR gap, there's plenty of equipment out there to handle your day-to-day charming.

Lol Mithra have CHR problems? lol I would never have guessed, assumed it would have been the Galka on the bottom of the CHR list and I know plenty of good Galka BSTs.

But then again I've never really looked at any of the races in any real depth, I just prefer playing the good all round hume.

Mithra Bst here too.
There is more than enough Chr gear avaliabe and you shouldn't have much problems charming EM pets even without all of it.

For best charming results I recommend a light staff or the HQ version (apollo's?)
If you don't want to lose the TP for changing your weapon just put in some chr gear for charm and you should have no problems.
There will always be some misscharms. Maybe many in a row too. And they'll happen mostly if you are close to level or when you just leveled. (I bet some GM is watching over all Bsts and tries to kil them)

And like tuesday said even with the changes made to Bst your early levels will be about learning the job. You'll die alot. You might think about quiting Bst.
But all that is what makes Bst special. It's the dedication for the job and the effort you put into it that makes it a unique experience no other job can give you atm.

<<< Mithran 40 BST so far, never had CHR problems really. I got myself a Monster Signa, and since duoing, I don't even switch it for Charm as I prefer to keep my TP.

Also, the Agility is really nice. I play /nin at the moment, and my secondary gear set is AGI+ and Evasion+. Pre-35, I could sometimes take a Even Match/Tough mob from 30% HP without taking a hit.

well thanks for the encouragement and warnings. I actually have solo experience as a thf main, but I've also never had a pet to deal with (that could turn on me at any time). I almost think it would be safer leveling to not go for soloing huge VT mobs, and maybe go for some even match chains, or does that make the exp unbearably slow?

Mithra BST! Woot! You will look the cutest in your AF. Also, the Bison gear won't be hideous looking on you.

Oh, and also gear will more than make up for the lack of CHR. CHR isn't even a stat that most people max out, just need enough to get by and all is well. When you're solo'ing, as long as you are happy with your charm rate, and I've certainly seen no problem, then all is well!

I'm a lvl 70 Mithra BST =) Honestly, I had very little to no CHR problems. If I did, they were around level 10-20ish because I didn't have much CHR equipment. Just make sure you get CHR rings and other equipment as soon as possible and update them as you level, and you'll be perfectly fine. After getting +20ish CHR though, you probably won't need to go for much more. Also, you can try drinking San d'Orian Tea - they last for 3 hours and give you 2 CHR (I had a ton of these because I was skilling up on them for Cooking)

._.?

Unless i've been playing BST wrong, the hardest thing i've done in FFXI was take DRG to 75 as my 1st job to 75.
Or maybe im not to the "BST is hard" lvls? I only being 52 BST.

OP, youll be fine. But CHR+ gear like the rest do. I'm a Galka, i do fine.

As others except 1 person said, you will be fine. If you hit a rough spot then Tuna Sushi is your friend. There are some other chr enhancing foods also that will more than make up any chr differences as well

Tarus also have "low" CHR and I never had any trouble. Once I hit AF levels I didn't even macro in CHR gear anymore, just light staff and pieces of AF and I rarely mischarmed.

Really it depends on the mob you are talking about, and your pet options. Some pets can eat through ITs fairly easy(not often enough by a long shot). Other times even Ts will seem a little meaner than you'd like. It's not that big of an issue really. Once you get a feel for the job, you'll pretty much always be able to judge how difficult or easy a camp is going to be, before you even get there.

Mithra BST 75 here

BST as a mithra is only really rough, in my opinion, until you get access to some of the CHR gear, b/c unlike some other races, you realy can't get by without it. The few times I've tried the Ghelsba BCNM 20 back in the day, it was a mischarm-fest that I'll not care to repeat. I got mostly the HQ chr stuff and looked at it as an investment, of sorts. If you farm and buy the nice stuff, it's less chance of you mischarming when you really need it (exp'ing).

Hope you go through with it, it's a fun ride.

Don't feel bad. I'm a Taru, and I used to do it with an Elvaan all the time. Rarely did we do it, where one of us didn't have trouble charming a bat. I quit using my signa, because the -vit was hurting worse than the +chr was helping. Tacos are a must for that one.

Apparently Mithra are quite arrogant, which makes them less approachable by beasts...so sayeth the Brady guide.

Lol! That's so funny you say that. That one thing, that quote from the Brady Guide is a main reason why I didn't pick up BST sooner in my FFXI career.

Not during the following time periods, sadly:

Aug 25th 2007 10:16pm - Aug 25th 2007 10:18pm
President's Day

No idea how this rule got put into place..

the stat difference at any job is really negligible.

I don't really like the second part of your OP :P If you think a few points of chr (or int, or str, for that matter) will make or break your performance at any job in ffxi, you're wrong, very wrong.

Quite frankly, bst is tough, especially when you start out. You learn more and stop dying every few minutes, and it gets better. Then it gets fun.

Taru are the cutest in bst af, hands down ._.;

Will you suck as a Mithra BST?

Yes!

Kidding, but seriously ask a stupid question get a stupid answer. I know
there are "sensitive" types out there who say there are no stupid questions
but they are just trying to make you feel better.

How many times in how many situations have "will Race work for this..." been
discussed. Just play and enjoy. You'll be fine as any race at any job.
Yes I even mean Galkas as Mages. Deal with it tarutarus, you aren't the only
ones who can cast.
