when i play blm I usually make sure the DDs are well equipped. Since I'm mithra my MP is not that great, so I'm only usually casting only 2 lvl III spells per round at most (one of them being the MB) and it's usually enough, relying on the melees to deal the main damage and saves me alot of MP over the course of the chain. I will spam nuke for a chain 5 and ignore stun altogether, which works out good since I want the goblins to suicide on chain 5. Doing it this way I almost never miss a stun, since the only 2 times I ever cast are a) enfeebling within the first 5-10 sec, b) MB, c) ending nuke. The rest of time on gobs = stun duty.

Sometimes better gear isnt the answer, a lot of THFs and BRD wear that ugly justacorps armour or whatever which has -25 ish fire resist, that hurts a lot on bomb toss and I generally call it flammable armour ^^

The Justaucorps, which is indeed hideous, is used by BLMs, RDMs, and BRDs. THFs have no reason to wear it. It does not have -fire.

The Black Cotehardie does have -30 fire, but a BRD would never wear it; it has CHR -3.

In fact, BRDs often have an extra +3 fire from the Noble's Ribbon up until level 65, and have rather high HP for some freakish reason. So we're decent at surviving Bomb Toss.

We're not as decent, however, at throwing up Barfira. I will do it, but I prefer that it come from a WHM, BLM, or preferably RDM (if they're subbing WHM). Our Enhancing is capped at the level of our subjob, as we do not naturally have this skill. The difference in +fire is significant.

As for Stun, I side with the people who say to let the bomb go if the gobbie isn't close to full health. Faster to replenish the party's HP/MP than the wear down the mob's. And it can be hard to catch Bomb Toss anyway.

(On the other hand, the BLM that consistently failed to Stun the AM and -aga spells tossed out in KRT...)

I've never managed to land stun on time yet, this is the most annoying spell I've ever had. EXPing off flies in CN they kept spamming cursed sphere and venom, but only when I'd just started casting a spell, so I never had any chance of stopping it. Then, to rub it all in, I had the RDM constantly spamming "wtf stun you n00b" when we had a DRK in the pt who wasn't stunning at all, and he could barely keep refresh up on the PLD. Even if I sat doing nothing with RDM sub, hovering over my stun macro, it never goes off in time to stop the flies AoE attacks, so is there any point casting this at all on fast activating mob abilities or is it only useful for stopping long cast ones like bomb toss etc.

Flies TP attacks are almost impossible to stun. They hardly have any wait from building up the move to release. Don't worry about flies, the only time you will stun them is by pure luck.

ok, thank you, it's nice to have some positive feedback, I thought it might be the case with flies, but at least I know I can do some good with stopping the longer casting abitites

when i'm paying attention to the fight(and not alt-tabbed to read alla =P ) i can stun pretty much every bomb toss that goes off when im not in the middle of casting(cant expect me to stun when i'm at 30% on blizzaga 2)... stunning helps a NIN keep shadows, but also gives you a bunch of hate(which you dont need with a NIN) so I usually just ask my party if they want them stunned, so they cant complain that Im pulling too much hate. With a PLD I usually just stun away... stun costs less MP than a curaga, so why not?
