So... solo 1 to 75?Follow

So i solo'd Blue Mage to 69 (so far) and it's been a lot of fun :o

Well, i took up one single party around Valkurm, never even got EXP, died twice over nothing because we targeted Pugils at a level were lizards were probably better, figured i'd solo till i was higher to avoid the madness of Valkurm.

Then level 20 hit, and it was easy so i kept going. Level 30, man, tons of fun. Level 40 was a bit troublesome, but i could EXP on most things that i used for Spell hunting.

I never even thought of partying. I went from Spell hunting camp to spell hunting camp, raising in level after every couple of spells.

Naturally i had capped sword skill throughout the path up there, including now +16 skill from merits ever since Lv.65 so it wasn't all too bad, but it's been quite a long path.

Trying to get the last few levels through Campaign Battles now. (not losing anything, already got capped skill in everything)

I think i might be able to pull this off. 1 to 75 Solo.

Have there been people doing this as well? Is it an achievement? Any advise to speed things up?

Only spell i'm realistically missing so far is Body Slam. Should i wait till 75 for that?

So, want me to call it? Blue Mage new Solo job!

I've taken Blu to 35 so far solo, and I'm lovin it. This will be my second job to 75 I'm thinking. Good luck on the rest of the levels :)

I took BLU to 75 solo long before campaign was implemented. Partially as /bst but the vast majority of the exp was done on Goblin pets with /nin, as I recall. Then the very late levels I solo'd the Imps to 75.

I soloed to 75, mostly using Pets, but also Colibri, Pots, and Skeletons.

The duo guide was great for picking camps. Sometimes I used an NPC earring to help heal me.

It was pretty easy.

Campaign is an option, but you can also do Imps 61-75. Lots of Blus do that very often. Imp xp on Blu is very nice/easy.

Yeah BLU is a pretty solid job to solo on. I've solo'd mine about 90%~ up til 54 which is where I'm at now. I have been trying out the new Fields of Valor in xarcabard and it is pretty nice exp at this level and I'm enjoying it a lot. Have fun getting the rest of those levels ^^

69-75 on imps you will do at least twice as much xp per hour then you would doing campaing. The only reason I ever do any campaign on blu is to keep my campaign medal and I don't feel like gearing up rdm.

Going 1-35 on blu largely solo is hard, every once and a while you get that rare level sync party and those are ok but you have to disband after 1 or 2 levels or you gimp yourself too badly.

I solo my BLU most of the time. Most of my exp was coming from learning spell.

But instead of solo, I suggest you pick a BLU duo partner. All BLU spells in this game(sans body slam and exuviation, probably) can be duo'd with 2 BLUs. So you hit 2 birds with 1 stone. Got awesome exp and not worrying to get someone if the spell is not solo-able/hard.

Not sure if asuran claws could be duoed.. probably but not sure.

body slam could be if you get lucky and get it in the wotg mission fight

exuviation can also.

With spells like body slam (on normal drakar) and exuviation, you might have to sleep the mob, but if you have been duoing long enoughh, you should be able to handle things like that.

I'm not a big soloer... In fact I retired BLM @ 61 because I hated it so much... I'm a social Person :D I did the Colibri Camp today in East Ronfaure [S] and went 44-46 in about an hour XD Loved it. Probably the most fun I've had on BLU since starting it and hunting the first sets of spells.

This certainly piques my interest. I've soloed BLU to 25 so far. My play time is rather limited, so the majority of my levelling time is done solo. I usually go /WHM, but I've recently picked up the Anthos Xiphos and Nadrs and would LOVE to go /NIN for a bit of variety. What mobs would you suggest or, more specifically, what mobs did you use to solo up to 69 and what subs did you find most beneficial?

BLU is my primary sub for my primary job, DRG, but I hope to take it to 75 after I get DRG there.

Any info would be most appreciated!

Thanks, all

That's quite an achievement, please do tell when you reach 75. :D

I did blu solo 1-35 when it was released, and partied after that til 58, then did 58-75 solo more recently on a mix of things, but mostly campaign and imps.
Blu solo wasn't bad at all back then, focusing on worms mostly... staying just outside their melee range and headbutting spells meant some real easy kills. I would imagine nowadays it would be even easier.

I have recently been taking another job up through the early levels, and have done 1-26 in only a few days time. With the increased EP and DC exp, exp bands, the signet bonuses, the treasure casket items, and FoV regen/refresh and bonus exp, it is seriously easier than ever to level a job solo for a good while, no matter the job. Even some whm soloing at 18 was entirely possible... just ate meat and used club, went after EP mobs and had no trouble.

Why not? They're making things a bit easier for the soloers and duoers out there, so give it a go. :D

I have now solod to 42, and the new Fields of Valor is really helping me along. I've been burning through Tigers/Gobbies/Statues in Beaud Glacier with refresh and reraise from Field Support. Been capping skills on EM and T Bat Eyes. This job rocks!!!

As for subs, the most important is /NIN. This is partly because if you are killing beastmen pets, the shadows will help you mitigate damage as you try to down the mob asap. I think starting around 50 or so you can kill goblin pets in Gustav. Then around 56 the goblin rarabs in Bibiki Bay. I may be wrong on the exact levels, but they're approximate.

I also found /BST to be extraordinarily useful for learning certain spells on my own. And I believe I used /BST at 72-73 in Sky to solo on the birds and pots for EXP to 74, so I would have an easier time with Imps.

I did it!!

I took some time to finish off CoP, get my Sea spells and got some BLU AF2 on the side, but i finished :o

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/Silverwolf_1985/BlueMage75.jpg

Blue Mage 75, avoided every EXP party there was.

I loved soloing this job. Now to spend the merit points i had build up just for this wonderful event ^^

I spend the last levels in Campaign. It was a little slower, but quite a lot safer than hitting up everything decent challenge and up.

:D

First of all, congratulations on 75.

Secondly, wow at that gear. As nice as it is to be able to get to 75 without being in party environment, BLU is a job that is highly dependent on social cooperation to get our best gear (which is almost all Rare/Ex). Assault, Limbus, Nyzul Isle, ZNM... all require you to work with many other people and learn how to use our abilities to benefit others.

I hope you're highly involved in your linkshell events. Solitary pursuits will stop your growth in ability, now that you're 75. Hopefully you'll move away from Crimson Feet, emp hairpin, lolanelace, NOhastegear, light gauntlets, and subbing white mage (even though I know how much you hate /nin for anything, including your Paladin).

75 is nice, but you've got a long road ahead of you if you want to really make it as a superior BLU. Maybe I'm just too sensitive about mediocrity.

First of all, thank you. It's been a while.

Second, i have to admit i find your gear comments a little silly, seeing as i hit 75 only seconds before making a screenshot with whatever i seemed to have equipped at the time, not to mention i seem to recall you hitting 75 with far less yourself ^.~ But mentioning the use of half AF1 and half lv29 RSE wouldnt be nice.

I'm quite sure the achievement and possibility at itself is the main point of interest here, not the obvious fact that there is bound to be something better on a HNM somewhere in the world than some of the things i found acceptable for my solo play.

As for subjobs, i use a wide variety of them on any of my jobs (including *gaps* /NIN). But like everything in this world, a subjob is situational. White Mage is simply something i benefit from far more in campaign. There's no need to absorb hits with shadows and reduce the amount of points i obtain. And the use of /THF is ruled out thanks to the Quadav's Diamond Shell. By taking the hits and curing it back up, my points have always been high. Let's not forget, a free Reraise is a wonderful tool for when you're taking out the invading forces solo, or raise when someone else is in trouble.

Having left my server over a year ago, i don't honestly feel you can still comment on my old ways and habbits. Especially not those i take up when i'm all by my little self soloing my EXP in the most comfortable way possible. :)

I know we didn't part on the best possible ways, but this strikes me as simply attacking me out of jealousy or the frustration that i managed to do this.

All there is was the simple question, would i be able to solo a job to 75 that is not a Beast Master, and the answer is yes. Should i have done Limbus/Dynamis/ZNM/Salvage and Assaults for every day year after year obtaining all the pieces i could use before hitting 75 on Blue Mage for a better screenshot? Perhaps. But that was not the question i wanted answered.

All in all, it took me about two and a half, maybe three months. I got 220.000 experience points over the last 17 days (including the time i took off for spell hunting and CoP). If i wasn't able to re-use a lot of my Bard, Paladin and Monk gear it probably would have taken longer.

So for everyone out there soloing, and the tl;dr people who skipped over to this line,

Blue Mage is a viable solo job. It might not always be easy, it might not always be fun. But if you keep your focus, you will hit 75 in no time at all.

I was just saying that considering how much you sang the praises of Campaign for your solo endeavors, you didn't use much of the effective Cobra Unit gear that benefits BLUs before top-of-the-line items like Homam and so forth (which I'm amazed you don't have if you are also a Paladin).

The difference between you and me was that BLU was my first 75, there was no ZNM and Campaign gear, and I dinged in a linkshell that didn't do anything but small events (not even sky). The connections I made, however, enabled me to get all my spells and much of my gear.

This wasn't a personal attack. I was pointing out that while soloing to 75 is viable for BLU (and for many jobs, for that matter), it goes counter to the needs of BLU. There are many spells BLU cannot solo and many vastly superior pieces of gear from events and NMs that cannot be done alone. I was afraid this would be sort of misleading to perhaps new BLUs.

Tl;dr: Soloing is nice, but once you hit 75s the friends and connections you forewent will by soloing will halt your progress of being a good BLU.

I can't think of a job that couldn't solo to 75 given beastmen pets and campaign.

You would be surprised at what you can do if you think carefully and are forced into a situation. :P
I've kept my circle of friends small since returning, and tend to participate in very modest events, so I have had to do quite a bit alone when people were not on. There are some spells and things that are soloable with creativity and effort, despite what some people say. ;)

I actually know a couple blus who are equipped with homam and some sky/various gear and still don't know the first thing about the beast chart, or even spell modifications. It's been said to death over the years, but gear doesn't make a good player. A good player is someone who thinks on their feet, and uses the resources and tools available to them to reach their goals.
In fact, soloing a lot with blu has given me a lot of insight into the job, and some creative workarounds for different situations. Kind of neat.

Blue mage is one of the most complex jobs in the entire game, and fairly advanced when compared to some of the other jobs. It can be awesome or it can fail miserably, depends on who is at the helm, and the understanding they have of their current role or capabilities.
This also tends to mean that blu, more than most, can utilize and benefit from a good many setups (equip/spells/subs) to assist with their current role/activity. So, personally, I try to watch and ask questions about what other people choose so I can get a better understanding of what they are doing. Seems like there's always something new to learn on this job. :P

Solo 1-20 was cake.
After that I have been doing various gob pets usually averaging 3-4k and hour and upwards of 6-7k on some of my more recent levels. I had to party once in the desert to fill in a gap but everything else has been mostly solo. Currently 56

Congratulations on soloing to 75!

I personally like soloing, but I am not being as efficient as I can be when I am doing it.

Are there any good solo guides out there?

I would like to take a look at one or two to get a better understanding of soloing with Blue Mage.
