My friends got a problem that no one can seem to figure out how to fix. Brand new PC, built by professionals, with nice shiney new parts and the EQ client crashes every half hour of play time. It does not crash at random times but EVERY half hour.

Specs as follows
ASUS G-Force FX 5200 128 mb video card
AMD 2400 chip
ASUS Board
512 MB 2700 DDR ram

thats all the important specs. Anyone got any ideas?

'lo all!
Does anyone have any NEW advice for this prob? I've read the posts from several months ago but nothing new.
I get past server selection screen and the screen where game loads but before it goes to char. select I get a message that EQ has detected that my client may have crashed.
I updated all drivers this morn. so I don't think thats it. I haven't played in several months RL being busy. However I ordered Lost Dungones this morning before I started playing.

Windows XP Pro
GE Force 4 TI 4600
SB PCI 512
AMD 1.1 gig processor
512 ram
Direct x 9
1 gig free HD space
Logitech Mouseball
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks!

The last I read was to update firmware on my Linksys card but my card does not have a firmware upgrade. I just checked.

Try this:

Do the following in this order.

Go to housecall.trendmicro.com and run the online virus scanner. Yes, even if you have a normal virus scanner. Just humor me. Also you may want to run ad-aware from LavasoftUSA.com and clean out any spyware that might be trying to transmit.

Then, go to your everquest directory (c:\program files\everquest usually)
delete theses files:
EQMain.dll
EQGfx_dx8.dll
EQClient.ini
EQGame.exe
EQHardware.ini
EQOptions1.opt
EQOptions2.opt
All files that have your character name in it
All files in your everquest\Userdata directory.
Download the Nvidia driver 44.03 from the archives link at the Nvidia site and save it (do not install).
Download the directX 9.0b driver and save it. (do not install it).

1.) Uninstall the Nvidia driver.
2.) Restart your machine in safe mode
3.) Uninstall DirectX driver.
4.) Restart your machine in safe mode
5.) Install the saved directX driver 9.0b
6.) Restart your machine in safe mode
7.) Install the Nvidia 44.03 driver
8.) Restart your machine.
9.) Try logging into EQ

That's worked for some people.

Hello,

After reading this thread, its pretty clear that I'm not the only one experiencing the, 'EQ Client' crash. Howver, the frequency that I'm crashing is mind boggling. When I do log on successfully, BAM, 'EQ Client has detected....', ugh!

After crashing for about 4 or 5 more times in the same way, I give up and turn the system off completely and go kick the dog,(jk).

I'm also getting this message, 'DDHELP caused an invalid page fault at module <unknown> at 0000: baaba48b.' And it goes on to list numerous Register figures.

Any idea what might be causing this? I've did a quick search on the other threads but could not find one with the 'DDHELP' subject.

Processor: AMD Athlon MMX 3DNow 1.2GHZ
DirectX 9.0b
512MB Ram
GeForce FX 5200 128MB Video card
Sound Blaster PCI 128 sound card
Windows 98SE
12GB HDD (don't ask) with 9.45GB free

I've had this setup for a little over a year, and had no problems playing EQ before. There were no crashes except for the occasional 'You have been disconnected' issues. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated, cause its sure frustrating not being able to get into the action, which is going on for almost three months now.

On the good news - no question that this is graphics card/driver/direct x related. DDHelp is part of Direct Draw, and the time it's happening is typical of every time I've had a driver issue.

Having said that, I'm not about to be very helpful. If you are absolutely sure that everything you have is up to date, and dxdiag works properly then I don't have anywhere else to go.
