My fun DRG story this week. Follow

Last night was my first time playing DRG in a long time, but my story actually begins in Crawler's Nest on Sunday night trying to get the spell Death Scissors I was soloing there for over an hr. and it was about time for me to head to Nyzul (never saw the move once). So I put my trusty warp cudgel on and stroll into Rolanberry fields figuring i'll see if Smirugh is up. Sure enough he was wandering around bored, so my nyzul static comes out to help kill. Since we alone have ToD, we do the same the next day (yeah for drops, boo for lots). So last night his window is right before sky, I get home log on and he's not up yet, I decide to try going DRG because it was early wasn't sure how many friends I would have on. He pops right before sky but others got claim, I normally go brd to sky, but just figured I'd go DRG/WHM since we normally farm early and at least 1 or 2 folks end up switching jobs for gods, I'd switch then.

Of course realizing I forgot all my HB gear in MH made me pretty gimp as drg/whm in sky, but lots of people show so it makes little difference. We get some pop items and finally head over to byakko, I get a D2 to change jobs and my BRD friend was bored so I grabbed him and just switched to /THF. Get back to Byakko, and we start killing him, drop him to ~20% or so easily enough, then I don't know what happend but our tanks all died suddenly. (I think it probably has something to do with only 2 stuns), and he's at 14% or so running all over the place eating the whole alliance I super jump my hate off me and run hoping a RNG can shadowbind it. one PLD managed to get hate for a few seconds and we got it down to 4% then it starts eating everyone again. I had tp, and was trying to follow it, so I call wyvern, spirit surge, SA/Wheeling Thrust, and use my jumps, its dead. Only ~4 or so people left alive mostly in the red. Drops Haidate, Nhands (mine), and a Hide.

All things considered, its nicer to just win without the excitement, but to pull that out at the last second was fun.

A crybaby JP RDM was asking if I had /NIN. I do, but that can go to hell, I said "Blue Mage You Can Have This" to which he made some kind of sad face, like it was a WORSE choice.

The delicious irony was when we made over 20k/hr.. As usual ever since I've started meriting as DRG.. God damn this job is sexy, for lolibri camp.

Sorry about derailing from your story Fox, I think it was pretty nice though. Congratulations on N.Hands.

I don't get /nin either.

It makes sense if you're fighting a mob that you stand a good chance of pulling hate, that has enough AoE to kill your wyvern. But that's it, even if you pull hate infrequently you can super jump it off. Odds are you won't pull hate /nin anyways. Its very limited use IMO.

I have never understood why they continually think /NIN is better than /BLU (or /SAM or /WHM for that matter). I am glad that I have only been asked once and told them flat out I would just come /WHM. Apparently the didn't mind since we were doing ~20k/hour... as /nin I bet it still would have been ok, but not near as smooth.

Yeah. It baffles me when people ask if I have /NIN. I just ignore them and come /BLU or /WHM anyway.

The real question is what can we do to combat this sort of ignorance?

/NIN really is taking over, sadly. Just tonight I did nyzul with a DRG/NIN (I was /SAM). We get to the boss, and he never had to recast utsu. Because he never took hate. Ever. Then again, he TP'd in askar feet and flame ring so meh w/e. /NIN has its select few uses, but regardless of sub he was doinitwrong.

But my story this week: Got told by a TP in 5/5 Askar SAM that:

This is like the only good thing about /nin most of the time, 'cause wyverns don't know how to stay out of frontal aoes. :(

ooh and story: drg/sam, finished off an MNM Coeurl as last man standing, one hit from death.

It was just 2 of us DDs from about 6% left, trading hate. Wyvern was long gone due to aoe spam. Then finally he drops my third eye way a little early and hits me with a crit that takes me to red, and I super jump away. Other DD gets floored before I even land, but third eye got back up and carried me through. Got a couple of counters (who knew this is like 40% of anticipates with seigan up?) that pushed him to 1%. His last attack took down third eye with 10 seconds to go on recast, and then I whiffed a regular hit, but Jump came up just in time to get us the win!

No drop though. :(

It's funny how many misconceptions people have about other jobs.

If you ignore the fact that dragoon can healing breath, that it can high jump or that it can super jump...well /nin doesn't sound so silly does it? Think about the drk asking to come /war and he doesn't have dread spikes!

It's not that all of the players asking you to come /nin actually understand how dragoon works, they just view it as a damage dealing job that jumps to do get a free attack. Except the JPs that seem enamored with just bizarre combos. Maybe they just enjoy tricking people into following them while spamming "meripo" and "w". Jokes on the suckers that copy them!

Plus you can totally HB with tonko: ni or utsusemi: ni trigger? No mp needed! Save the MP for your corsair.

Also I can't tell what it is, but was at a colibri camp the other day and I know at one point 3 weaponskills in a row the bird pecking flurried me immediately after, which third eye ate, but still, I swear my tp gain matches up perfectly with a flurry to the face.

Grats on your gloves!

I've been asked to /Nin on a couple of Nyzul runs recently. The conversation usually goes:
Leader>> Can you sub /Nin?
Leader : Yes, but I can /Rdm too for 600HP cures :3
Leader invites you to his party.

You must be the most reputable person on your server for people to actually believe you when you tell them about DRG healing.

That said, oh my lord, I have high hopes for Shiva... I've joined several Nyzul statics "I have Drg Thf Rng Brd" and they've asked for me on Drg...

...

I never get asked to come Drg.

Best response is just to provide a brief explanation of healing breath. Dragoon had a huge stigma on it that cause a lot of people to avoid playing it, much less playing it as a healer.

Also /mage works significantly less well with tarus...need hp merits.

All of a sudden I'm highly tempted to change servers...

That said so far from what I can tell Midgardsormr is better than most. I've been able to talk my way out of any /nin requests I've had without much difficulty.
