Leveling spec for lower levels?Follow

Supposedly, Ret is the best spec to level with if you want to get her to 80 and quick.

But, I wouldn't know myself. Levelled from 1-67 as Prot, was my first real class I pushed past 50, and then dual-specced Holy for PvP. In the end, I fell in love with Holy, and levelled the rest with that.

As Prot, it was more effecient to take on whole camps at a time, popping the somewhat larger CDs like Bubble and what not, but downtime wasn't an issue and it was effecient. Also, incredibly fun. I found Holy to be nearly similar, but instead of DPSing the mobs down before you die, I kept Consecration and Retri Aura up whilst healing myself through the good 20+ mobs tailing me.

All in all, I'd say look through a talent tree that sounds like something you'd enjoy. Play as it, and re-spec' a few times as you level until you find something that suits you. Ret may be the best spec' for levelling efficient, but may not be the most fun to play in your case.

We get a mount at 20 so increased speed is not that needed and my pally did not get disarmed that often , so to give up the nice extra damage of Might seems a little crazy to me unless i have missed something ? .

Best advice i can give is always get a decent weapon , i went with whatever had the highest damage potential so a slow two hander is perfect .

My way with Ret talents was to take anything that increases damage or crits as its only the Crusader Strike i was interested in getting as fast as possible , and it is pretty easy to spot all the good damage increasing talents .

Once you get past level 25-30 you will start feeling sorry for small groups of mobs as they tend to die very fast but do try to keep to smallish groups of mobs as Ret is not so great with more than 3-5 mobs as i find it is so hard to keep health up , i guess that is more a Prot way of fighting with a shield and one hander and a large groups of mobs = a slow but steady winning fight .

This is what i did for talents , i am not sure it is the best way only that it works for me .

Improved blessing of might is one of the worst talents in the tree, in terms of raw personal dps. It is of course mandatory at 80 when you start doing dungeons and raids but pick up everything else that is fun until then and just put it off. 15% increased movement speed increases your leveling speed by 15%. It is the best leveling talent in the tree (think of it like it's shortening the road to 80 by 15% for only 2 talent points).

You'll have to make a decision at some point to pick up Divine Strength in the prot tree, again i would put this off as long as possible. The talent scales with your total strength so it gets better the more gear you have. Also, for single target grinding Seals of the Pure is awesome. I would probably move straight over to it in the holy tree after getting Divine Storm. I actually leveled my ret a long time ago when the talent trees were very different so there are different orders of stuff to pick up.

Sanctity of battle is an awesome talent only when you have crusader strike, (and the art of war to some extent) same with sanctified wrath. Judgements of the Wise is amazing and you should ignore absolutely every other talent once it becomes available.

This is what I started doing at 50 when I got frisbee. It seemed to me, at the time, a requirement for tanking instances at that level. I'd quest as prot in the LFG channel and got to 80 pretty fast.

There are many reasons to level as any spec - effectively though, you are correct - there is no reason to even try prot until 35. This is because it's the level at which you can start to AOE grind.

Having said that, for no damn reason, I leveled as prot and it was pretty fun.

Goal: Hit 80 Quickly = Ret
Goal: Anything other than super fast leveling = Ret/Holy/Prot - you pick.

Yeah, they don't stack. Pursuit of Justice increases running speed and mounted speed by 15%, Crusader Aura by 20% but mounted only. You'll spend enough time unavoidably on foot that the talent is pretty useful though.

Go Ret for speed.
Go Prot for fun. But if you do... Wait till 35 ish. Frankly you should just D.Spec it.... Paly healing isn't fun IMO...


My advice if you do roll prot is to google or youtube a video of someone AOE grinding. There are a few out there... Sort of the Pally version of "In Frost We Trust".

Morons will tell you that you can tank 12+ mobs at once. That's really not true when you start. By 80 you can do some crazy things, but while leveling - Especially when lower - you really can pick up 3 - 5 mobs and be safe... Yeah - you want to blow all you CDs and pot and maybe risk death, then you can pick up 8 mobs.

My first toon was a mage. My second was a paly. What you learn is that as a mage, you generally want 1 target. That's the most efficient way to do most things... As a pally you want more than one. Your tanking abilities hurt people who hit you. So more people hitting you means more damage. (Add in a Shield Spike too). What you want to do is find that efficient frontier where you are doing the max damage, but taking the least personal risk.

There will come a point where if you have someone you can hit - you just can't die. I realized this in Strat. I went to the old lvl 60 instance. Nothing could kill me - unless those stupid bugs snared me. It was kind of like the light flicking on... I realized that if the bugs could root me to the ground I couldn't hit things. Without hitting I couldn't get mana or health.

It's all about finding that efficiency...

Lvl 35ish Prot can do the job but with the changes to Quest Xp as well as XP needed to level at low levels Ret has really pulled ahead.

As always some kid will come in and say "I leveled Holy fine" but don't listen to them.

If you're absolutely set on holy, leveling exclusively via battlegrounds and dungeons would probably be faster than trying to level in the traditional manner. Bonus points: you'll be a good healer at 80 with all the practice.
