Socketing for PVPFollow

So my guild decided we have too much melee DPS for our raids and somebody has to be replaced by ranged DPS.

Well my rogue was low rogue on the totem pole, and I have an ele shaman with ok gear, so my half-epiced rogue gets replaced in raids by my semi-scrub ele shaman.

So with nothing else to do with my rogue I decide it's time to try out some ShS PVP. I search a couple of top PVP rogues on the armory and mimick one of their specs and start grinding some PVP gear.

My question is, how do I gem the gear when I do get it? I have no clue what to put into any color socket or the meta on the helm. Right now all the PVP gear I have is S1 swords and S3 gloves, so no sockets to worry about.

Also, how could I resocket the PVE gear I have right now to give me a little more survivablity in PVP?

So I'm guessing I would want Dex to boots since I'm going with the run speed meta...

Stam to boots until you break 10k HP easily.

Once I have all the S1 gear I will be over 10k HP.

I'm won't be wanting to spend too much money on this char since it will only be for PVP and raiding is expensive.

I'll probably just get dex on the Vind's boots from the get-go and suffer with 120 less HP.

I'd still get 12 stam.

Only thing else I'd get is Surefooted.

I'll do 12 stam when I get the boots. I'm not paying somebody for a nether for surefooted.

I've socketed a good majority of my red gems with raw attack power (+16/+20). My rogue is 20/0/41 ShS Mace spec atm. Would 8 agility be better in the long run? With all my gems he is sitting at 1728 AP unbuffed. His agility is at 481.In a PvP perspective, would it be better to stick with the AP or start stacking agility?

You need 79 hit before you worry about AP/Agi comparisons.

Damn I didn't realize my hit dropped that low when I switched out my gear. Thanks for bringing that to light. I can easily switch out two pieces of gear and get that 79 hit rating. On that note, what are the pros and cons in comparison to Agility and Raw AP in regards to PvP?

I haven't done research but I think Agi gems are better then AP gems because with agi you get:

+dodge
+crit
+AP
and also the increase agi from the sinister calling talent.

Am I close?

I'm also not aware of the agi > AP conversion. I've got three gems to change from +16 AP to +8 agi, I screwed up and I'd better get back to saving up some gold. :(

Thanks for bringing this to light for me.

The dodge and armor isn't a reason to take Agi over AP ever. It's the crit and Sinister Calling that make it worthwhile; BoK in PvE.

That's interesting (and surprising) - no use for resilience gems?

I boosted my hit to 79, then switched out my AP gems with +8 agil as mentioned. I went and immediately tested it in the arena and bgs. Folks it's good stuff. Granted I lost about 40 AP, but gained 32 agil (before Sinister Calling calculations). A significant boost in crit occured, but on a survival note, dodge chance increased. Now thats for a ShS Mace spec rogue in 4 s1 pieces in 1 vengeful. Not sure how it will pan out for other specs or rogues with tons of agility as it is (t/5 or t/6 gear).

Rogues have much more effective ways of mitigation in arena. We can do just fine with 340-370 resilience.

9/10 high-rated rogues will socket straight damage in their gear, because we've got something most other classes don't: Evasion/CloS.

Our class is lucky to have quite a few outs.

ShS Rogues in paticular can get along with low resilience because even with say 250 resilience most people will still burst another target, as you are so hard to kill with CloS, Evasion and Cheat Death.

I actually went through and did the math all nice and neat for some whiney ShS rogue on the oboards, so here it is, copypasta'd:

Theophany the Awesome Dude Of Knowing **** wrote:
1 agi = 1.265 ap with sinister calling and deadliness.

1 agi = 0.02875% crit with sinister calling.

an 8 agi gem gives you 10.12 ap and 0.23% crit if you're shs.

What about Meta gems?

Swift Skyfire Diamond is good for the +24 AP but idk about the minor run speed increase. Do you really need that? Im full on Arena and im almost done with bg's.

For a sHs wouldn't Relentless Earthstorm Diamond be better? 12 agi and 3% increased crit damage.

Enigmatic Skyfire Diamond is even nice too. +12 to crit rating and %5 Snare and Root Resist. That sounds like it would be great for arena.

Which one is the best?

Swift Skyfire Diamond for ShS, Enigmatic Skyfire Diamond for Mut.

Even for arena? I figured the snare resist would help alot. I already have "surefooted" on my boots tho.

What about Relentless Earthstorm Diamond?

I have the 18 Stam 5% stun resist for a meta and roll with Boar's speed on my boots. Works pretty well for me the 24 AP run speed can work too if you want to get somethign else on your boots!

That's a s1/2 setup.

No rogues gem for stam anymore.

Every rogue should have Surefooted on their boots, but only Mut rogues will see the true benefit of stacking snare resist (FF + meta + Surefooted), and since FF is a runspeed by itself, there's no reason to pick up another runspeed.

But ShS needs runspeed. That's the reason for the AP meta, because you're going to want the 10 hit and snare resist from Surefooted on your boots.

The 24 AP (24.24 after Deadliness) helps too.

So, as noted before, these are the enchants/gems you want to be using:

Gems
Red: 8 Agi
Yellow: 8 hit until you hit 79 hit, then 4 crit/8 AP
Blue: there are none in our gear, LOL!
Meta: 24 AP/runspeed (Mut: 12 crit/5% snare resist)

Enchants
Head: CE
Chest: 150 HP or 15 resilience
Wrist: 24 AP
Gloves: 15 Agi, 26 AP if you're poor
Pants: 50 AP/12 crit
Boots: Surefooted

EDIT: Oh, also, don't get the Vindicator's Leather Bracers. They suck compared to the feral druid ones.

Jesus Theo, now you say something about the bracers's after I already bought my Vind's Leather ones.

Guess that's another 12k honor or so I have to grind.

Honestly if you have the Vind Leather, don't bother; use your honor for something else. It's not that big of a difference.
