Possible way to bypass some mobs?Follow

I had an idea, not sure would work -- possible way to skip some mobs if the setup is right. Thought I would ask to see if anyone has tried this.

Let's say you're running Shadow Lab. You have a cat pet. After killing the first couple of entrance mobs, you're ready to kill the mobs in front of the tunnel to the next big area with the boss.

You send your cat, in stealth, towards the group on the left. When it gets close, click on the stay command. Target a mob on the right hand side, send pet to attack and drop it's stealth.

While mobs chase pet across the room, the party heads down the left side of the room to the tunnel (have speed aspect on for this). As soon as they get there, hunter FDs. Wait for pet to die and pop back up.

I'm assuming as no one else in the party has entered combat, this might work.

every time I've been in an instance and someone says they have a really cool way to do something and then take more than 1 sentance to describe it, there is alot of running, screaming, dying and crying.

anymore I just do it the way it's meant to be and it always goes so much nicer.

If you've got a party full of hunters, rogues or druids, classes that can break out of combat, that might work. However I'll let you try it out first. :p

Ok, in general principle? Maybe. But if you wipe, or have only a druid healer with limited resses, leaving groups behind you will cause complications.

With the actual specifics of the room you mean? Um. There's a group on the left and on the right (actually two: mobs, and a warlock, on each side) and you want your cat to pull the mobs from the left to the right, while the party goes by on the LEFT? Where the OTHER group of mobs is? Or did you mean the right side?

If by chance your cat shouldn't survive this long enough, the mobs will probably pick new party members to target...

Ooooooh yea,

Last night we were in Kara, in the circular room just past Curator with all the Mana dudes and Arcane Wraiths, the Tank decided he was going to pull the mobs only around the edge. I said it would be faster to just pull the whole room, and they didn't listen. Well when we went to pull the one right next to the arch, he also pulled the group next to him. Alot of people died on the table that is stuck through the window. So people run in to res, they res, and people don't get out of the room, they stand there. Mob pats, wipes several people out again. Res again, same thing. I finally asked why we were not just grabbing the guy in the middle so that they don't have to be so cautious. Nope, another tragedy (meawhile I am standing out in the hallway away from everybody, taking no durabilty, not entering combat and living to res each and every time). They finally had everybody jump out into the hallway, then the tank said he was going to pull, he pulled the single group and jumped out the window and got it from there.

Meanwhile I mentioned in a not so quite way "We just spent 40 minutes on one set of mobs, if you guys had listened to me it would have been maybe 5 min max to get all of these dead, and you guys have 6g+ of repairs you otherwise wouldn't have had"

Everybody began wholeheartedly agreeing with me and it has been made the decision to never try to bypass mobs again :)

After all this they made me an officer and raid leader :D

agreed with caldone. No matter what the situation is, i find it very rare for skipping mobs to actually benifit the group. one time is slave pens heroic. and shadow labs, other than that, thats about all i know. also another reason to not skip groups is when people re enter the instance after a wipe they may have an issue getting back in.

If its a room your gonna fight in. clear it save yourself the agony of having a unexpected thing happend and wiping the whole group. Its kinda like what your teacher told ya as a kid. "do it right the first time" that will save you alot of problems.

In the time it takes to explain the tactic, convince your party that it will work, set it up, and execute... you probably could have killed the mobs already. LoL :P

Yep. Those three quotes pretty much some it up completely. Not to mention that those mobs are so easy that it's free money and a chance at green drops that you're missing out on.

hehe...why I posted here. Yup, I would never try this out live unless it was with a group of good friends and we were just messing around.

I've done something similar to this solo'ing, but yeah. Whole new ball game with a group.
