New Warrior - PvP QuestionFollow

#1 Jul 12 2007 at 7:22 AM Rating: Decent
I am a new Warrior, only Lvl 18 at this time. I have been reading as much as possible about warriors and different builds etc. lately. My goal for this toon is to PvP as much as possible spending large amounts of time at each stage (Lvl 19, 29, 39, etc.) In my reading I have seen that Undead and Orc are really the best to options for PvP but I really did not want to be Undead and for some reason I really liked the look of Cow Tanks. (I like the look of Orcs as well)

My Build: Some variation of the MS build 33/28, etc.
My Gear: Will be whatever I gather as I move through BGs and will be supplimented with alittle instance/AH stuff.

My question is:
I still like my Tauren look but am wondering how much I am missing out not picking an Orc to play. With the 15% racial resist Stun and the +5 to Axes (My preferred weapon in a MS build). With Iron Will an Orc can get that stun resist up to 30%. Is it really that noticible in PvP, so much so that it is better than the extra Hps I get as a Tuaren? I am contemplating rerolling to an Orc but would love to hear some feed back from Orc/Tauren Warriors out there.

A 2nd question for Tauren Warriors: In BGs do you all notice that you get targeted more often because of our size or is just because we are warriors and they want to take us out?

Thanks for the help

As an alliance, night elf warrior, I am no expert, but I have done quite a few BGs and I find the Tauren warrior to be the most fearsome looking of the Horde warriors. Their imposing look and their racial ability, the AE stunning war stomp, make them extremely dangerous. For those reasons, I find them to be the race that I wish most that I could be if I were horde. However, you also hit upon the main negative that I have noticed about them as well. While the intimidating look of the tauren is awsome, it also makes them the fastest to spot and therefore makes them a quick target. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they were the most killed race on the BGs. But if it were me, that would be just another reason to choose a tauren. As a warrior and a tank, you would rather that the opponents attack you rather than your casters.

Good luck in whatever you pick.

Tauren are pretty good for serious PvP, honestly. The Hardiness from Orcs is really good, but you have so much stamina that the 5% HP boost is a significant factor in arenas (I run at around 12.5k HP unbuffed at the moment, so that's a free 600 HP or so - and it gets better with buffs) and Warstomp is always useful. Don't worry about it too much, and if you ever decide to do serious PvE you'll be happier with having a Tauren.

And yes, you get focus fired a lot. This can be a huge annoyance in PuG BGs where you may or may not have anyone help keep you alive, although ironicially I rarely find this a problem these days (I have a Stormherald - giant, glowing lightning mace, obvious Tier 5/S2 shoulders/hat/BP/legs, a ton of HP - people tend to follow me around and heal me in random BGs), but in situations where you can reliably expect heals (team BG, Arenas) it's a godsend. They focus on the giant Tauren in front of them, and fail to notice the itty bitty Blood Elf or Undead sitting in back tossing you heals.

If you haven't played Alliance, it's not nearly as obvious the psychological impact it can have. I noticed people always seemed to focus fire me, but it wasn't until I was playing on my brother's account (Alliance) that I really realized why. Tauren are HUGE and SCARY.

It's fun being scary.
