Imperial Plate set useful?Follow

Hi, I'm a lvl 53 human warrior. Right now I'm wearing a mixture of green armor most of them add str and sta. Today I saw some items of the imperial plate set on the AH. Now I'm wondering wether I should save my gold for this set either to buy it on the AH or buy the materials needed and have blacksmith forge it for me. But is this set worth the tons (218 bars?) of thorium you need to forge it or is it better to spend the money on dropped green armour?

The only set benefit that I have seen from this stuff is when you have 2 of the items you recieve @100AC. There is no benefit to having 3 items. That has been tested by my BS friend who makes the stuff. For your level, the bracer belt combo is the only one that makes sense, the extra AC is good to have. None of the gear is better than the green items that you can buy in AH.

My opinion is that the stuff is not worth it.

Frit hit it pretty much... To add... I would say that you are at about the point you need to start scoping out Valor. I wouldn't invest tons in the Imperial set, cause you'll be wanting to change over shortly after actually getting it; getting the bracers and belt like Frit said wouldn't be bad though.

If you have money to spend, I would start scoping out weapons. In your low 50s there are weapons you can use that go to auction that are dropped from lvl 60 instances that you won't be accessing for a few more levels. So you could get a pretty nice weapon for your 50s before you have the "opportunity" to be making the instance runs yourself.

For the record, 4 items gives you +28 attack power and I've heard 6 gives 12 sta. If it didn't take ludicrous amounts of thorium to make the chest/legs/boots/helm, wouldn't be bad to get to hold you over until you can get better stuff from instances.

(but it does)

Imperial Plate is better than the 'of the bear' greens, but worse than most blues. The cost is very high though, personally I felt it was a better use of my gold to buy a couple nice blues than the whole set. I did, however, buy a couple pieces to get the +100 armor bonus. I use the belt and shoulders, but only because I got lucky and had Lord Incendius drop an 'of the bear' version of his bracer on the first kill. At the time I had been using bracer and shoulders from IP set.

What weapons were you refering to, Kalinwulf? I've checked the AH a few times and have yet to find anything better than Thrashblade or Princess Theradras' Scepter for less than 200G.

I didn't have anything particular in mind. Just that I have taken many green and a couple blue weapons to the AH; weapons that drop in Strath, Scholo, and BRS; usually require lvl 48-54, but are being dropped in a zone that is usually run by 58-60s (usually my weapons are only marginally better, but to someone in their low 50s its a nice upgrade).

if you're level 52 and have some high level friends, get them to goto eatern plaguelands and kill Lord Darkscythe, he drops the Ta'Kierthan Songblade which IMO is one of the best weapons at your level.

Imperial set sounds good when you get the first few pieces, but most of the medium level instances drop blues that'll last till valor. If you want a really good suit of armor, get Hydralick Armor, gives good bonus's and has decent defence.

I think alot of its worth comes from your servers market i could pick up an entire set of imperial for less than 100 gold on the right day Due to my server being chock fulla Market skrewing undersellers. Where as i could buy the hydraulic Armor for 150 gold simply because no one can build it as a skillup peice.

Personally, I feel that this set is usless. Run a few instances, and you can get better greens/blues from bosses, in less time then it takes to get all the mats for this set, and then find a blacksmith that can make it all. The only reason I would get this set, is for looks. It looks cool, but that is the extend of its uses.

I spent more on Hydralick Armor than I would have needed to spend on the entire imperial set. (100 compared to 90, I believe)

I am still using Hydralick Armor. It has FR and a bunch of good stats, and a reasonable amount of ac. Sure, when I find a group to 5-man scarlet strat I'll use Ornate Adamantium instead, but it's lasted me a lot of instance runs thus far.

The entire imperial set will get replaced from random drops in any high instance. Discounting the set bonus you'll even eventually get greens better than it. (And once you start getting a few reasonable blues the set bonus will deteriorate rapidly.)

The price of imperial is plummeting on my server now due to thorium prices coming back to reasonable levels (from 9g/stack after the patch that introduced the imperial set to 4-5). Should be able to get a full set for 60g or less now.

from 47 to 55 I think the imperial plate set items are the best green items to use. I used most of it to get to 59. Now I am working on farming better items as I get to 60 to replace them all.

I spent something like 25g on 6 out of 7 pieces (keeping the rockridge legs from maraudon) and I'd have to spend hundreds of gold and weeks camping the AH to match the stats at level 55. I wouldn't buy it if it amounted to 50g or more though, esp since you can't get a lot of bonus from it until lvl 54 which is pretty close to 'endgame' instance lvl.

I lose about 1.5% damage reduction compared to using blues, but the stats and price more than weight up for that IMO. Also, finding blues with the right stats to complement your other gear isn't easy. Since this set has tons of STR and STA and nothing else, I like it for now ;)
