i am sorry if this has been asked before but I am a new hunter in the game on a pvp server. What I would like to know what Talent points are usefull on PvP, I personally want to make use of beast/marks in pvp but I see so many people go Marksman/Melee. What is the reason for this.
And what do you suggest to put talent points in?

First of all on pvp dont worry to much about beast mastery points. For pvp the pet isn't gonna do much more then get in the way because no fool is gonna worry with you pet at all.

Instead you need to be able to take more damage and probably dish it out close range because players are able to force you into it. In marksmanship i would max out improved concussive shot for sure. A major hit that hunters can deal comes from aimed shot also if you can get into a ranged situation. Some crits with aimed shot even at low lvls are over 1000.

Just keep in mind you will often be forced to melee so probably would want to focus more into survival tree i would think on pvp.

I certainly agree that if my Hunter were on a PvP server (I play a rogue on PvP) that I wouldn't invest too much in my pet since I would be more focused on melee.

That being said, my Hunter is on PvE, so I'm currently making my pet as strong as it can be. Lately though, I've been fighting Horde players a lot more often. At level 32, my pet is pretty powerful. Obiviously, my enemy goes with the advice "ignore the hunter's pet." I've been able to use this to my advantage though, as such:

1. Activate Aspect of the Monkey
2. Hit my enemy with Wingclip
3. Turn around and run.
4. When at range, hit Concussive Shot
5. Continue to stay at range, stopping momentarily each time to fire a shot.
6. When the enemy closes the distance, repeat.

I'm effectively kiting my enemy, and with the power that my pet has, they are demolished rather quickly. Every now and again, my enemy decides to fight my pet. In that case, it's over even faster.

Would I do this on PvP? Not sure, but you can always unlearn your talents.

I have a friend who is all Beast, and remaining in Mark. He has a lot of success with the wingclip/concussive strategy. You don't even really need to shoot, because the pet deals a good amount of damage. By the time your opponent realizes this, it's usually too late, and you can take them melee if need be.

But then, I can use the same strategy with Melee/Mark and just start the Melee sooner.

The most important thing is to know your opponent. Mana shot against healers (Sham, Priest, Druid) is better than poison, and make sure to Hunter's Mark rogues.

I agree with Eruntalon this is alto common they never attack the pet. Because if you kill the hunter you kill the pet (or get rid of it) I would do the Beastmastery tree for good PvP

I play a beastmaster hunter (35 points in beastmastery and 16 in marksmanship) I can personally tell you from experience that while some people think this combo doesnt work for pvp, I can guarantee that it can work. I have had great success at both dueling and raid with this combo.

For dueling I start out by placing immolation trap and then I instantly shadowmeld so any spells, charge affects cant be cast on me right away. From shadowmeld I release either a concussive shot or aimed shot depending on how my opponent reacts. my pet instantly goes on the attack and I turn on spirit bond, I then kite them around using wing clip and various stings/arcane shots and watch my pet devour them while refilling my health. I have won a large majority of duels this way, and if they manage to slow you down as well I just jump around and attack them to disorient them as best as possbile.

For raid I just use my various shots from afar and send my pet in after the enemy. They always ignore pets, which in my case can be a very serious and costly mistake, and my pet spirit bond heals me while I pick them off at a range.

So anyone who says beastmasters can't be good at pvp are mistaken, it just takes a bit of a different strategy, and if it werent for the severe disadvantage I'd take to PvE I'd probably be beastmaster/survival, so that when things did catch me I could hold my own a little better in melee. Plus it's something a little different, I mean who wants to be just another marksman/survival hunter, how boring!

Beast/Marks spec is great for PvE. For PvP Survival/Marks is the way to go. Scattershot and Improved Wing Clip are indispensable for getting back out to range, and the increases in ranged and melee hit and critical rates can't be beat. Survival also gives increases to dodge/parry rates to increase your survivability and access to Counterattack - an undodgable, unparryable stun that works after parrying an attack.

I have a 56 Hunter on PVP with most of his points in Beast... and it definitly works well in PVP.

When I am fighting I just Spirit Bond, wingclip/concussive, and run. My pet does a TON of damage, especially why the player is running after me, and any damage dealt earlier to me is healed by spirit bond.(Using owl for fast attack for more heal)
