Platinum can be found solely in Palborogh Mines. This is the way i do things with pal mines. Ive been in there so much that i have the MP spawn points memorized so you just have to figure out the best path to run that will be a circit that you can run all day and cover the most points in the shortest amount of time. In pal, i am lvl 20 Blacksmith and i went all the way from 15-20 just mining up Iron ore and turning it into ingots. This made me a really nice profit as well. 200 for a pick axe and hopefully 1-2 iron per pick so 2 picks for 4 iron. 2 picks =400, iron ingot =2500 so its a nice profit margin. I honestly have not tried mining in Gusgen yet. I would rather not be killed and lose the exp just because i wanted to grab a little ore. IDK maybe i should try it. I actualy just love heading into Zeruhn mines and pulling out a ton of iron and making a pile of ingots. Usualy makes me a pretty good profit. (although i have a nasty habbit of spending it right away.) But there are alot of places to mine, many of these places can be over mined but dont give up. Just wait till a time with less people online and head on out. Its not like there isnt anything to do in this game, that if one place is too busy that you just give up and log. Go farm, or go level or even just go fishing. Grab a rod and a lure and head to pal mines and fish off the bridge. Who knows you might catch something. That way you can keep good tabs on how many people are around. Just keep mining and dont be a MP stealer. (Or the rest of us will be forced to drag you out into the street and tar and feather your nOOb a$$) :P No hard feelings.

Right it is the morrion wurm in Korrolka Tunnel, but what you were wrong about is that he is not your normal NM. He is a what you would call forced spawn. You put a piece of hare meat(that is wrong im pretty sure so feel free to correct me) into the ??? and this will spawn the Morion Worm. This can be done ever 12 minutes if im not mistaken. But you arnt guranteed to get the Morion Tanthlum everytime. Im pretty sure thats how this works. Its quite similar to the NM crawlers that you see being faught in Crawlers Nest in the Ball Sack room when you put the berries in the basket.

This is the site I use for Mining/Logging points:

Mining Logging Harvesting Excavition MAP

It's a link I found off of Mystery Tour (http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/index.html) so I want to give credit where credit is due.

To answer some questions:

Mining/Logging/Harvesting points are visible to all and will respawn much like mobs. If no one gets there, it never existied. If someone uses it, it will come back after an unspecified amount of time.

Gear helps out a LOT. Get it as soon as you can. I feel as if I get better results with gear, but I KNOW that I have fewer hatchet/sickle/pickaxe breaks with the gear.

Some Advice:

The less dangerous the place is for those under 30, the more crowded it will be. Play nice. Just because some points have multiple strikes, don't stand there and "trade swats."

Take crystals with you to break down the unstackables into stackable items.

Be prepared to be there for a while - this is an endurance activity, not a sprint.

Not exactly sure what you mean by this but in my experience - a mining point will exist there indefinitely until it is mined, at which point another spot will activate. So there are a certain number of mineable spots open at all times in the zone.

I have far more experience with logging, so perhaps I should claify.

I know logging points do die. Maybe this is far more likely to happen with logging since the points can be so far apart in a region. I've noticed that in a place like Junger or Bubu that the logging points, while spread out, tend to cycle through clusters in a "zone." (Our LS has done group logging, so we've experienced this firsthand.)

In order for the new zone to be active, the old logging point either needs to be used or die. I've also experienced finding a logging point in both of these zones - only to get to it, start my hatchet macro & have the logging point go away when no other loggers are around.

General notes on all items:

Ifrit's Cauldron CAN be mined safely and successfully if you know what you are doing, and are alert and safe at all times. I've been mining it on and off for over a month now, and while I have died several times, each and every time was due to a direct mistake that I made. It is dangerous - there's no real questioning that.

Don't bother going there unless you take several (4-5) stacks of pickaxes, a stack of silent oil, and at least a stack of prism powder, and don't go there unless you have a whm or rdm at 25+. A NIN sub helps as well, for Tonko, in which case bring plenty of shinobi-tabi, but isn't strictly necessary (I don't have it, and I still do just fine).

Get a map of it (plenty of links posted already), learn it, understand it, and use it - pick a route where you hit all the mining points, though if Ifrit's is busy and you're not feeling particularly limber you can sometimes get away with camping a few of the more packed, closer potential spots. I wouldn't go there without mining gear.

The majority of the spots are easy - just make sure a bomb isn't passing by, cancel your invisibility, and mine away.

For the spots that are more heavily guarded, with bombs nearby, don't panic - these are still mineable. Just wait until a bomb has JUST stopped moving, and is facing away from you, cancel your invisibility, and mine three or four strikes, quickly. Then just run away from the bomb to a point where it's safe to cast, or use a prism powder. Cycle rinse repeat until the MP is gone.

Make sure you have sneak, invis, tonko, silent oil, and prism powder all macrod. If you don't, your hamstringing yourself.

Be patient and decisive, and you will eventually strike gold, or in this case, adaman.

You CAN get orichalcum ore there as well, which sells for around 90k on my server. It's extremely rare, though - I've only ever gotten one (as opposed to 10+ adaman).

You will die. But if you are patient, and smart, you will also eventually be rewarded.

I don't get why everyone says the Cauldron is so dangerous, I mined there as my RDM30 (first job). Later the same day, I wound up helping a NIN friend of mine get his Old Gauntlets from a coffer there, though he got himself killed and a passing BST had to Raise him >.>

(Majivo) Hey, don't go that way! They aggro to sound over there!
*Three minute wait*
(NIN) AHHHH!

Then my friend comes bursting around a corner with a Dodomeki chasing him, naturally.

(Majivo) Told you not to go that way.
(NIN) Look at all the eyes it has! How can that thing aggro to sound!

And of course while he's dead, I turn a corner and what do I find? A nice Treasure Coffer! Luckily the aforementioned BST Raised him, though we learned that you can't pop coffers while weakened >.> Spending 5 minutes camping a coffer and praying that bomb over there doesn't aggro you sucks XD

mining points do die, i used to mine in zeruhn quite a bit when i was lvling smithing to cut down on cost, and i have many times been running up to a spot and seen it disappear. As to whether or not worker gear increases your chance of getting rare ore, i'm not sure, but it certainly decreases your chance of breakage, and that lowers the chance of one possibility, so the others must go up to keep the % at 100.

Old thread. Yes. Necro-posting? =P
He was browsing through the thread, and thought he'd share his view on it. And he's right, since he's thrown on the full set, he's gotten better ores more often.
Makes me wanna steal the equipment from him and try and different spot to test it out. ^_^

K i have been minning for 3 years almost and would like to add my own experences there are also the old molvotes mines sorry forgot how to spell it and there is the ifrits area to these 2 areas are for the high lv players but do have the bigest rwards if you can get a minning spot minning spots do appear in the same are after a time but only once another mine spot has been mined. To put it another way say you go to mine spot a and get a gold ore a silver and copper then for it to respawn you need to go look for mine spot b and then when you mine that a will respawn and so on if your going to be a minner then that means you will prob want to lv blacksmith or gold smith that wya you can take say 3 sets of picks a set of crystals like fire and when you get the right amount of item like 4 copper ores or 3 zinc and 1 copper then you can mix them saving space lv your skill and getting more for your money.eg i go out to a spot i take my picks and crystals then when i am nearly full with ores i mix them and before i know it i leave with say 4 or 5 darksteel 2 or 3 gold and 2 or 3 stacks of brass and bronze ingot a set of 12 of those ingots can get you 10-12 k depending on the ah market i am now working on my silver and gold ingots and should bring in double that or more.I am on lakshmi server and if you need help with minning spots or anything give me a shout i know all the spots in all the areas lol been there long enough.
