Forgot to add this as well:
How are you logged in? As administrator type account or standard user? What programs are running in the background? For example - Norton, Roxio, IE, Firefox, Quickbooks etc.
With the enhanced security on Vista, it is possible that the crash is due to a security setting. Vista does not allow some applications to write to the hard drive without permission so that may be part of the problem. Ran into this on a user machine running Paradox not too long ago.
