Anyone getting Final Fantasy XV? Only 9 days away. Some places already broke street date, and people playing the game (avoiding those people).

I kind of wish the game was coming out this week so I could play over Thanksgiving weekend. Instead it's coming out the Tuesday after.

If they release a demo other than the Platinum Demo I might try it out, but otherwise that demo did nothing to gain my interest. I've heard that the side-quests/activities feel really tacked on and don't mesh with the flow of the main story.

They have a "Judgement Disc" demo on the JP PSN. Create a JP Account and download it. I haven't played the Judgement Disc demo, and have avoided most discussions from about it or from early players due to street release breakers. But in general I think the impression of the Judgement Disc demo has been better than the Platinum Demo.

I imagine that we will see the Judgement Disc demo released this week sometime on the NA PSN. Can't see why they wouldn't push it on NA given how hard they are spreading this game across multiple platforms.

I did buy/watch Kingsglaive. It was pretty good, but the air battle scenes with Ultros seemed to suffer a bit from poorer quality CG. Really stood out vs the rest of the movie.

Edit:
May not get Judgement demo in NA... some are saying it was released in Japan because preorder sales were not great. NA on the other hand has probably gone crazy with the preorders on this game.

Apparently there is like three trillion different pre-order packages, which would be kind of annoying if I were getting the game. I gave up on Final Fantasy a long time ago and "Final Fantasy J-Rock Visual Kei Road Trip" really doesn't make me question that decision. Though, the bits and pieces of complaining about how sexist the game is are amusing.

The soundtrack should be good, though. You can't have a road trip without killer tunes.

This is one of those where if my buddy gets it, I'll probably play it. Beyond that, the only thing I know about this game is Cidney, who I wholeheartedly approve of.

It's not even out yet and it's already sexist?

Quote:
“Speaking honestly, an all-male party feels almost more approachable for players. Even the presence of one female in the group will change their behavior, so that they’ll act differently. So to give the most natural feeling, to make them feel sincere and honest, having them all the same gender made sense in that way,” Tabata said, speaking on behalf of developer Square Enix.

Oh, ok. Yeah. "Sexism." Smiley: rolleyes

I'm sure there are tons of female characters in the game, either way. I saw a picture of this game's incarnation of Cid is a woman this time, for instance. She's tomboy-ish and seems to have a lot of cleavage going on though, therefore also sexist. Game developers should just follow Undertale's example and make all of their playable characters gender neutral-- although their typical male playable characters are already prissy feminine androgynous types most of the time and it's hard to tell what gender they're supposed to be anyway.

I'm not sure which is more sad. The cries about there not being a female main character, the poorly worded "excuse" from Tabata, or the fact that Tabata just couldn't come out and say "I wanted this story to be about these four men" and that being enough of an explanation.

I did see a commercial for FFXV on TV last night. Comedy Central I think.

A couple weeks ago I traded in my PS4 and GTAV (I have the PC version, which is far superior. Actually, GTAV came bundled with the PS4 and I still got 22 dollars for it.) towards a PS4 Pro. While I was there I preordered FFXV and paid the full amount. Then I saw Conan's clueless gamer segment on it and had some second thoughts. I wasn't really sure about the game to begin with and decided not to risk the money. Once the reviews drop I might change my mind, but not until then.

As to the supposed "sexism" in the game. Until I play it, I can't pass judgement, but honestly, I see nothing wrong with Tabata's rationale. A group of male friends will act differently if you throw a female into the mix. It's just one of those things. You can judge it if you like, but it's true.

Anyway, since I had already paid for a game, I transferred the money over to a copy of Watch Dogs 2, which is actually pretty solid. It's a lot like GTA except crappier gunplay, and slightly less solid driving. But you get some pretty neat toys to make up for it. An RC car that can hack terminals you can't reach, and drone that you can use to scout out locations before you walk in. I've put in a few hours, but I'm far from finished with it. They made a fairly massive recreation of San Fransisco to play around in. Most of the missions have a bit of humor/political commentary. Anyone that's into open world games should look into it.

I'm curious what about that Conan thing made you think it was a bad idea?

Everyone told me I should watch it. I watched a bit of it while I was at work one day. Then I watched the whole thing last night. It was just... like if you took Yahtzee's routines and removed all legitimate game review information from it. A less funny Zero Punctuation. It didn't even start out very well when the first thing Conan did was mock the "crystal" with that "precious" voice. I watched it wanting to enjoy a funny rip like Yahtzee, but was left kind of blankly staring at my screen as Conan did foolish things trying to get a laugh.

But, whether or not you enjoy the premise of the "Clueless Gamers" I didn't see anything in that bit that ended up affecting my opinion of the game, good or bad.

Why is Conan doing game reviews? Seems like late night talk shows would be the last place to get information on vidyas.

I don't watch Conan. But I he has a "Clueless Gamers" bit on it... I only guess to try and lure in the younger crowd to the late night talk show circuit.

Like I said, I was on fence before watching it. The bit pushed me over into the wait for the reviews crowd. This is a guy that's not a gamer and doesn't give two ****'s about a new Final Fantasy coming out. It's his job to sit down and react to what he's playing, and he couldn't find one single good thing to say about the game. He just straight mocked it the entire segment. That's not a good sign.

I think you are looking into something that just wasn't there. There wasn't any deep meaning to his playing, he was there to be as stupid as he could while playing. Taking this as some sort of true impression of a game is not what it was meant to be. The only thing I saw him do was "My precious" and then pound his head on the wall saying "Is it over?" while Elijah played and a host jumped them through a few different points in the game.

I don't really care if you like the game or not. But to take this "Clueless Gamer" bit as some sort of real review is not what it was meant to be. It was like a poor quality Zero Punctuation. (Very poor quality, relatively speaking).

My game arrived today. But over the weekend I bought a PS4 Pro.

Fired up my Pro today to play it, and decided to do a data transfer from my old system. Unfortunately... that was a 9 hour mistake. So now I don't get to play it tonight :/ Debating whether or not to call it an early night and wake up early to play the game a bit before work. Only need 6-7 hours of sleep.

Edit:
So, I do happen to have a duplicate digital copy of the Kingsglaive movie on Vudu. If someone has a desire to watch the movie (and hasn't done so already through other means) I would be willing to give it away to a good home.

Initial reports are that the main story is 15-20 hours long, with one guy in Japan clearing it in just over 10.

I'd be hesitant to draw any conclusions from speed runs fueled by guides

I am 4 hours in and have not driven the car yet. Stumbled on a dungeon with big red warning signs all around it. Turns out it was full of level 45 monsters and I was only level 4. Ran into a random fight with a cactuar who almost decimated my party before I even knew he was there. And when trying to get to a node to gather some ingredients for food I ran into a level 35 mini boss of sorts guarding the area.

So far I'm getting a Skyrim feel to the game. Just initial impression. Prompto can't seem to stay on his feet. He tends flail around a bit, rolling and diving during battle.

I would recommend skipping the tutorial if you played the first demo.

Meh. You can beat Final Fantasy 9 in 12 hours if you're after Excalibur 2.

Ok, I found out that giving Prompto Lightning magic was a bad idea. Cause the very next fight I notice a black circle forming on the ground around me and then a bolt of lightning strikes the ground, damaging me and leaving me twitching on the ground for a good 10 seconds, give or take. I was like "What's this? A warp point on the ground?" *BOOM* *Bzzzt* *Twitch* *Twitch*.... "WTH? Prompto?" Then a couple fights later, he does the same thing to Gladiolus, leaving the big man also twitching on the ground for a decent amount of time.

I mean, I don't think one of the enemies would have used it (all just critters currently) and the tutorial did warn me to look out for my teammates when using Magic.

Edit:
Finally decided to drive around a bit in the car. It has auto pilot, and a manual mode, but it kind of self drives if you want it to, following the road. I haven't tried going completely off road yet, or forcing crashing. I have gone on dusty trails. Did a quest to help a stranded motorist, and then went back to the gas station. Where upon refueling, I found out that it is not a self-service station, and Cindy comes out, fills 'er up, then proceeds to "put 'em on the glass" as she washes your windshield for you and they give you a view from inside the vehicle.

The true boss of the game (post main story) apparently either takes 1, 15, or 72 real-life hours to defeat, depending on whether you're min/maxing, you're the developer, or if your Conan O'Brien.

So for some reason Amazon sent me a duplicate set of DLC bonus codes for the "Gae Bolg" "Mage Mashers" and "Blazefire Saber" preorder weapons. If anyone here is actually playing the game and didn't preorder from Amazon to get their own codes, I may have working codes.

(Got the email tonight, said something about "our records indicate that you may have received invalid coes")

The switch to action RPG turned me against this and all future FF games. I played the demo and it did not do anything for me at all. I feel like nothing has ever peaked Final Fantasy X and everything since then has been a step in the wrong direction. X-2 was subpar, XII was unplayable for me with the goofy battle system. Final Fantasy 13 was just flat out boring.

The only real good RPG I have played since FFX was Lost Odyssey on the Xbox 360. That game honestly could have just had the title Final Fantasy because it had everything you would expect out of a good Final Fantasy game. In fact I believe the music was composed by the same guy who used to work for Squaresoft.

I think X-2 was the pinnacle of the ATB turn based system for FF games. And Pop-Idol theme aside, the game play was solid and had a great soundtrack.

I can see how 12 would be off putting. But when I got it I was playing 11 and I really liked the similarities between the two.

I can't fault anyone for not liking the action gameplay. Opinions and all. But so far I'm enjoying the game. Almost 10 hours in now. The combat seems simple but is more about when to press the buttons rather than which buttons to press.

IMO, they never should have released that Platinum Demo. It was really wasn't representative of the game itself. And unless a person bought Type 0 HD they didn't play the "real" demo which itself was changed much by now. And they never did release the Jusgement demo for the NA audience.

Last night I found the "Justice Monsters V" pinball game and spent probably an hour playing it. Turns out you can get really good items for winning. I got an accessory that doubled my HP first try (easy game, just takes a while to actually play and get the treasure points required).
